there. take a look at these temperatures. we're tracking the latest warm up as some parts of the bay area reach their hottest temperatures so far of the year. and the chp forced to block part of the roadway in silicon valley as president biden is met with protesters as he does some fundraising across the bay area. plus danger sparking at a senior housing complex in san francisco. what we're learning about the rescue efforts this afternoon. >> station. he's calling for news 2. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm justine waltman. we're going to talk about that forecast right now with this live look outside showing us how pretty this here in san francisco at the embarcadero breezy out there, blue skies and warm. we have gayle ong here to kick us off with our friday forecast. yeah, it's another warm day in land. at least that we are cooler by the coast pacifica. >> we are in the 70's half moon bay in the 60's. remember, some beaches were in

the 80's and we are seeing 80's at this hour. you can see close to 90 in santa rosa and livermore. 84 degrees. 85 in dublin. so we could see some 90's in about an hour. those the time of the warmest said a time the day. so here are the temperature changes. you could places like santa rosa and livermore up 3 to 4 degrees warmer than we were this time yesterday. a little cooler by oakland and hayward and half moon bay. that's because of the change of the winds. we're back to that on shore flow by the coast. we still have a bit of that offshore flow. you know that warm winds. that's why our inland communities are still warm. the coolest spot today is as you just saw in the 60's. so here are the winds right now. we could see a shift here. you can see half moon bay has onshore flow. san francisco, 13 miles per hour. a nice warm breeze and you can see everywhere else. we have a mix of that mixed bag here so that's why some places are warmer and that more could cooler today. so we have high pressure that is in control

now. the typical summer set up. notice we start off with the marine layer and the fog by the coast. and that usually mixes out by the afternoon. so we will see plenty of sunshine this weekend. it's a holiday weekend. mother's day weekend sunday. so you can see tomorrow saturday, we start off close to 90's once again inland, little cooler by the coast in the 60's 80's by the bay. and then we retreat from the heat just a bit in the low 80's inland. i want to come back. we are seeing more warming temperatures coming up. gayle, thank you. some developing news now as fire crews are responding to a fire at a senior housing complex in san francisco. we have video now from the citizens after show you. >> san francisco fire says this is a 51 unit building with more than 100 residents in there. and several people have been evacuated and then evaluated by medical personnel. 2 people have been taken to the hospital. the building is 4 stories. it's located in japan town on

fillmore street, just north of geary boulevard. >> people are being asked to stay away from this areas. they're still working to get the situation figured out. we'll bring you more details as soon as they come into our newsroom. and now to that major public transit issue that happened today. it is fixed, but it did lead to some huge problems for riders starting earlier this morning, bart had to shutter 6 stations. and although the system is now back up and running, there are still some delays as we head into the evening commute. kron four's theresa has the details. >> shut down 6 bart stations in the east bay on the red and orange lines between richmond and macarthur shuttered 7 hours friday morning due to mechanical problems. the issue starting around 05:00am, we can't send trains through saying we need to cabling and then hopefully we'll build to get trained service back. and then once that the service restores. >> both lines, the orange line in the red line will go back to normal. take a look here. bart spokesperson alicia trow

says bar deployed workers to help riders connect with buses. >> and other forms of public transportation to get to their destination and the true definition of a bus bridges when it takes you directly from one station to the next. >> we don't have that because our partner transit agencies don't have the extra buses and drivers this morning. but those stations have great bus service already. and so it's just getting you on the right bus based on where you need to go. so, yes, you know, ac transit, golden gate transit, west cat. they all stepped up to say bart riders can go on those buses for free at for some riders. it early morning meltdown affected getting to jobs in other plans where you need to go to work. >> we need to go the way and that's it. >> so what is going to do? with stay on? probably just take us. so best president >> you know, i just i'm just visiting from out of town. so

>> well, good afternoon. the president arrived in the bay area yesterday spent the night in san francisco and he's attending to fund rate or razors here in silicon valley on friday, including one here in portola valley. let's going take a look at some video. the president's motorcade with made its way down alpine road here in portola valley about 12, 15. this afternoon. he's headed to the home of tech billionaire and he was greeted by dozens of protesters who are unhappy about the war in gaza between hamas and israel. me say they came out to send a message to the president and his donors that they're not happy with that situation. and we want him to know that we do not support the genocide is happening right now. and we want the donors to know that we hope that they would fund other things besides the war and the sides. genocide. >> and so we're here today to just make sure he knows that people are unhappy about this genocide in palestine.

>> right now the president has left portola valley. he's was scheduled to head to a second fundraiser nearby palo alto. and then later this afternoon, he's going to depart moffett field headed for seattle, washington. but for now in valley, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you. and now to reaction to comments that president biden has been making israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says his country will stand alone in its fight against hamas and gossip. >> netanyahu's statements coming after president biden warned that the u.s. would cut military aid to israel if it launched an all-out invasion of rafah. biden says he does not want americans and the bombs that we make to be used to kill innocent people. a million palestinians are in rafah after escaping the war to the north. and israeli military spokesperson says israel has enough weapons to proceed with its plan to go after hamas in rafah. the united nation's general assembly has adopted a

resolution in support of the palestinian statehood. this move would grant palestine full member status in the u n the resolution was approved earlier today by a vote of 143 to 9. 25 nations did not vote. the u.s. voted. no u.s. officials believe that palestinian statehood should be negotiated between israelis and palestinians. the move would allow palestine access to international aid and support participation in global decision-making processes and the ability to contribute and shape international law and policy. uc berkeley's law school graduation held today while a pro-palestine encampment remains on campus. the commencement taking place at the greek theater while demonstrators remained at sproul plaza. the event coming as many colleges are having to cancel graduation ceremonies across the country due to these protests. calais, maine graduation at memorial stadium is tomorrow. >> as top of some. ice that

will graduate. >> so chair, so support there for usc's valedictorian yesterday during a student recognition awards ceremony, she was supposed to be giving the commitment a commencement address today. but her speech was canceled. the university cited security concerns after her social media pages have links to a paper that called for the end of israel. she was accused by some jewish groups of being anti-semitic, but she denies those claims. closing arguments have wrapped up in the attempted murder case of the man accused of intentionally driving his car off a 300 foot cliff with his family inside this unique case hinges on the judge's decision of what kind of mental health crisis dharmesh patel was suffering from when he drove off highway one in january of last year, his wife and 2 kids were inside the car when it plunged over double slide in san mateo county. they all survived. tell us why says she

does not want her husband prosecuted. that's got the judge could decide to divert to tell us case out of criminal court and instead into a mental health treatment program. the judge says that she will make a ruling late june. one person now in critical condition after getting shot near lake merritt, oakland police finding the victim on grand avenue right near the el rey fountain. this was yesterday the person was taken to the hospital and is now listed in critical condition. police say the victim got into a verbal dispute with another person right before the shooting. this is though an ongoing investigation. anyone with information should contact oakland police. while oakland international airport has a new name, port commissioners unanimously approved 2 rebranded to san francisco bay oakland international airport. and this new name has been getting a lot of pushback from the city of san francisco. there is a legal battle under way. san francisco city attorney david chiu has already sued on behalf of the

city and even sent a letter yesterday urging the port board to have both cities work together to come up with a whole different thing. the oakland port instead moved ahead with its plans and the saying it's going to be responding to that lawsuit with one of its own. a couple of travelers that we heard from today say yeah, that name change is confusing. >> i'm not really sure why they would do that since there is a san francisco international. you don't want people getting used to it, making francisco international confusing. i want to revel particular i just think we should. >> maintain singularity. how about >> all right. for the reason for the name change is because oakland port commissioners say people do not realize oakland is located in the bay area which limits the amount of routes that airlines will bring to the airport to the airport is going to be updating its branding despite the lawsuit, even after the name change, the airport will keep the three-letter code oak. alright, temperatures go

this friday. we're have gayle ong with us. here is when you talk about. >> the hot weather. yes, another hot day in land. now, the difference that we have today is the coast is noticeably cooler about 10 degrees cooler where some beaches were in the 80's. so now back to the 60's. so a live look from the east bay. we have sunny skies out there and a current temperatures in our major cities. 75 in san francisco. so still a warm day yesterday we saw 81 and which we haven't seen since october when the 80's and oakland, san jose santa rosa close to 90's here and 87 degrees in half. moon bay is actually in the 50's upper 50's today. so much cooler where quiet in the bay area. most of california. but we have some activity in the southern sierra there in the central valley. but we have a ridge of high pressure that is bringing us these warm temperatures out a similar set up for our warmer months were we start off with the marine layer and the fog in the morning and then we warm-up

inland with sunny skies. so we have a mixed bag of winds here and that's the big difference in temperatures today. so the coast is cooler because we have the return of that onshore flow that is bringing temperatures down. but we also have offshore flow are in our inland areas. and that's keeping us warm. that wind coming from the land. so we will see that pop tonight. we will start calm in the morning for saturday and then towards the afternoon and evening. we'll see another pop in the winds, but it's that refreshing wind. and tonight we'll see that fog return. light winds overnight. lows will be pretty mild and sunday for mother's day. it's going to be cooler in the low 80's you'll see in the seven-day. so jumping ahead of tomorrow's highs similar to today in the upper 90's. and here is that mother's day forecast where we will see temperatures ranging from the 60's too close to 90's once again with lots of sunshine. back to you. well, deputies florida are defending a deadly shooting of a young air force service member

inside of his own apartment to do want to warn you. >> the body camera video that deputies released is disturbing, but we'll play it for you now. all right. so that's this. the okaloosa county sheriff's office there saying a deputy was responding to a disturbance call giving the apartment number for 23 year-old roger fortson. but attorneys for his family say that he was home alone playing video games and face timing with his girlfriend and family members claim that fortson likely could not see or hear the deputy outside of his door and was within his rights to answer it with a gun in his hands. >> i say a black folder with the pain. and i see 3 men in force uniforms. that's when a

new much i was the. >> fortson was an active duty airmen with the 4th special operations squadron. the pentagon says the defense secretary lloyd austin, is closely following reports of the shooting. the deputy is on paid administrative leave. governor gavin newsom unveiled his updated state budget today. it's coming with a projected multi-billion dollar deficit and he knows there will be some very difficult decisions that will have to made in order to close the gap. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has details and how the governor plans to balance the budget. >> well, here it is. all 45 pages. the governor provided for his budget to budget. the governor says will protect key programs. one he acknowledges comes with its challenges. this is a this is a sizable deficit. verner gavin newsom. they're not mincing words about his proposed budget for the coming fiscal year. a budget that per newsom comes

with a projected 27.6 billion dollar deficit. that figure is much more optimistic than that of the non-partisan legislative analyst's office or who earlier this year projected the state faces a 73 billion dollar deficit. newsom believes that projection was way off because he anticipates the state will take in more tax revenues than previously anticipated to balance the budget. newsom says he's taking action on several fronts, including the withdrawal of more than 12 billion dollars in the state's reserves over the next 2 years. he's also proposing more than 18 billion dollars and actual cuts including reductions for programs on broadband access, water, storage and state and local public health departments. he also plans to save hundreds of millions of dollars in what he describes as belt tightening. that includes a proposal to freeze the filling of about 10,000 vacant state jobs. is this what i want to know? >> but the alternative the you know, we can we can eliminate our expansion health care. we can eliminate wages. we can limit. we do furloughs into layoffs. we can do a lot of things i want to do those

uncovered in the legal bird fighting ring and more than $20,000 in stolen property at a house in santa rosa. >> police say in march $22,000 worth of items was stolen during a storage burglary. and then officers arrested audrina mike peters on one count of grand theft for that crime, detectives searched her home and found 1000 game birds. they believed we're being raised in order to fight sonoma county animal services help remove the birds as well as 5 malnourished horses and 2 dogs. officials arrested 2

other men for having burned fighting weapons also being involved and that storage theft. alright, danger on the job now for a mail carrier. the story comes to us out of dublin. this mail carrier was robbed at gunpoint. kron four's sara stinson spoke with neighbors and has the story. >> home security camera captures the terrifying moment. a mail carrier in dublin was robbed at gunpoint. this happened monday afternoon around 4.30, on a bespoke court video shows 2 masked men wearing all black approached the male woman. one point a gun at her dublin. police say the men demanded the carriers mailbox key and phone. you can see her go to the usps truck to get her phone and handed over. then the 2 men run off. thankfully, the male woman was not physically injured. neighbors called 9-1-1 and police arrived shortly after to investigate. i went down to

cul-de-sac. >> probably within 10 or 15 minutes after happen after seeing police in his neighborhood, mike grant, but down to check it out. once he learned about the robbery, grant went to check his high-quality security camera system to see if it captured anything useful. >> that's when he saw what he believes to be the getaway car narrowed it down to this. a blue grants as police and the u.s. postal inspectors. investigators came by to get the video. he's lived in this dublin neighborhood for nearly 30 years and says only recently has there been a spike in crime. we've had a rash of crime on this west side of town. that's something that kind starts to wake me up. grant says he's been talking with neighbors about ways to protect their homes, to start putting some cameras up to help. and alarm systems and everything like that. be a little proactive is what i'm trying tell people. he also attended the dublin city council meeting tuesday to talk about the importance of security cameras, especially

bay area resident richard turner. police say in march that turner did not appear in court while felony weapons charges were pending, which made him a fugitive price was charged with one count of second-degree murder. now, the alameda county where the health department is facing a shortage of restaurant health inspectors. and they're saying now that's hurting workers at some fast food restaurants. this discovery is coming after we first reported on the rat infestation at the mcdonald's oakland for the health department ended up having to shut that restaurant down. kron four's less the good and explains what's going on. >> some fast food workers over the last few weeks have been striking calling for better working conditions. one of them includes the al play a loco off of international boulevard in oakland here, workers have filed a complaint to cal osha claiming they have been nearly electrocuted due to flooding the kitchen where to put into it. >> really i. dane and the it

future may depend on a tax measure that set to be on the ballot in 2026, according to bart. >> new budget deficit numbers. the transit agency will be facing a 35 million dollar deficit by 2026. if passed, the tax measure would bring in more than a billion dollars every year for bart. but if it fails, bart is warning it's going to have to make some drastic cuts. >> imagine if just bart close at 09:00pm and certain stations were closed and no, no trains at all on the weekend. those are the types of things that our reality. i'm not any time soon. we've got 2 years of that. we know that we have funding, but then we need to focus on that ballot measure. >> bart says the deficit is partially due to declining ridership. also increased labor other factors at play as well. the bart board will not vote on a budget, though, until june. the san francisco bay ferry is planning some major expansions throughout

the bay area. the board of directors is planning to expand and electrify transit by 2050. the agency currently operates in alameda, oakland, richmond, san francisco, south san francisco and vallejo, the first expansion that they're planning. will be to berkeley and redwood city and eventually to antioch in pittsburgh as well as foster city. happening tonight, parts of highway 37 between vallejo of sonoma county will be shut down once again for repaving. caltrans says the eastbound lanes will be closed starting tonight at 10, they will reopen monday morning. all right. looking outside right now here in the city. we've got a little bit of a breeze. we've got the flag's going out there. the blue skies. that's why we have kron for as gayle ong here with details and house. the whole state looking on this friday. yeah, we are noticeably cooler by the coast. san francisco, you are 81 yesterday. now down to this low 70's. >> same with the monterrey, a

santa barbara in the 60's. and 91 already in sacramento. so we are getting to warmest time of the day and take a look at some bay area. temperatures here where we are 89 degrees in fremont and 84 in livermore. 88 in dublin, 87 degrees right now in santa rosa. so are inland areas. interior inland areas are starting to see the warmest temperatures of the day. and let's take a look at tahoe because you don't see the snow. we usually see snow here on the tables. but we know that snow is melting. but if you're heading out your forecast for the high country, upper 60's, mostly sunny skies and it i really nice during the warmer months are out there in syria. back here now. you can see starting see the clouds roll in here at half. moon bay. and that is one of the cooler spots in the bay area in the upper 50's. so over the weekend we will be a bouncing up and the temperatures inland close to the 90's. so very similar to today. but the bay and the coast to coast for maine low

in the 60's. so that's where you want to go to beat the just a bit in the low 80's for sunday's daytime highs. back to you. thank you so much. a florida man is recovering after falling into shark infested waters in the bahamas. >> 24 year-old marlon wakeman slipped while trying to jump onto docked boat in a marina. he says when he surfaced, he realized shark had a grip on his leg. >> i was told on the cover morning, grab hold head under water and that let go of me. i got really lucky. he didn't had shaker. hold on for a while. and then that's when i was able to get back up to the surface. get my head back on the boat. that's when the other one try to bite me. and luckily he did not grab on to me and i was able to get myself back up into the boat. >> wakeman was bit twice. doctors say his quick reaction likely saved his life. the waters around the marina have become a feeding ground for
