>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6 we are feeling it warm weather, much of the bay area right now as high in the mid 80's area. that trend set to continue into mother's day weekend. and folks are definitely taking advantage of the nice weather. here's a look at alameda beach today where >> lots of people got out to soak up the sunshine and relax a little bit. thank you for joining us here. maybe you're a taking a breather from the heat and watching us this evening. i'm noelle bellow and i'm ken wayne. join alongside our chief meteorologist lawrence summer officially here. feels like about to 90's today and some of the valley's. i mean, we really watch these temperatures warming up outside. now. >> high pressure sitting over head now and that ridge strengthen. but right along the coastline, we had enough of a seabreeze. we had actually couple patches of fog along the coast this morning, but we've got changes coming

our way as we head into the holiday weekend. it looks like high pressure. well, it's going to start to weaken a little bit out the door right now. you do have some clear skies, a little bit of a seabreeze out there. that is going to be a big factor as we sail and your weekend. but boy, it is toasty out there right now. how about a hot 90 right now in fairfield? it is 90 in rio vista, hasta county. one, the hotter spots right now. 88 in the concord. it is 86 in vacaville. and as you make your way for the south, you've got temperatures as high as 90 in brentwood, 90 in byron. 84 degrees right now in lemore. 76 in dublin, you get inside the bay. you get the facts that sea breeze a little bit now to help cool you down somewhat. 74 in san leandro. very comfortable. 73 san lorenzo. further south. those temperatures in the 80's in the santa clara valley right now. work your way back up the coastline, yearlong the peninsula. you can see 70's in the san belmont, burlingame at 73. and then back toward the beaches, enough of the sea breeze. and that fog really is not all that far away. still holding on to 70 degrees in san francisco. and bryn, you're looking at those

temperatures. 60's 70's in most places, although so that's a much warmer temperatures you get the winds are looking at 87 degrees. 79 in santa rosa toward the napa area. 76 degrees. 82 yet, bill. and it is 84 degrees in oak knoll. so still some very warm temperatures out there tomorrow. we're going to watch those numbers back off just a little bit, especially along the coastline enough of the sea breeze. so instead of 70's like today in san francisco here in the 60's, something to plan for. we're temperatures warmer, though, as you make when the south bay 87 degrees and well, almost 90 degrees in concord. now for your mother's day. here it is. expect more fog and low clouds don't expect real heat wave along the coastline. much cooler with some fog, especially in the san francisco in the coasters. 50's there still nice warm in the temperatures in the 70's and the 80's. all right, lauren, thank you. >> a person of interest connected to 2 women found shot to death in san lorenzo has been taken into custody. officials say they were killed some time last week at their home on durham. od avenue. investigators say family

members were trying to reach out to the victims, but neither have responded since april 30th days later, deputies did a welfare check. that's when they found the women inside the home to police are not releasing the names of the victims or the person of interest at this time. the closing arguments wrapped up today in the attempted murder case of the doctor accused of intentionally driving his car off a 300 foot cliff. >> with his family inside the unique case hinges on the judge's decision of what kind of mental health crisis dharmesh patel was suffering when he drove off highway one in january of last year in his tesla, his wife and 2 children were in the car when it plunged over double slide in san mateo county. they all survived. tells wife says she doesn't want her husband prosecuted, but instead back home with the family, the judge could decide to divert tells case out of criminal court and into a mental health treatment program. instead, she says she'll make a ruling. we're talking about the judge sometime next month. there's a new effort underway to address

abuse and harassment in san francisco's political sector. more than a dozen people stepped up to the microphone last week and a special meeting organized by the san francisco democratic party. this comes after. >> recent allegations against prominent figures in local politics, survivors of harassment shared their experiences with party leaders. nancy tung share of the san francisco democratic party says it is long overdue. >> the party that time did not but this is something that i was very supportive of. what s wpc first came us and given some of the recent events in the process. i felt like this was the time to act. not now, then when. >> the organization hopes to draft a code of conduct that members of the democratic party and affiliated groups must abide by zhang says the hearing is the first of many sessions to come. but the first she says was a success. >> i i was i was overwhelmed

san francisco is in a pretty strong legal position. uc san francisco law professor jeffrey left stunned, focuses on intellectual property trademarks, patents and copyrights. >> one of though, really worst points for oakland is that they seem to have been doing this in a conscious attempt to divert traffic away sfo and in trademark case is the fact that the defendant is intentionally seeking to capitalize on the goodwill of the trademark holder is often a very important factor in trademark law suits. the port of oakland hopes the name change will attract more travelers. >> i don't think it is going to become a few different. fact, i don't think the big any difference to people coming into appeared. well, the name san francisco does carry some cash. a san francisco state marketing professor sue boat butts as online booking sites already show various options. when you enter san francisco and the name change will impact the final choice and they want to have a band. you need see a example school, but just being recognized as one of option that is not bending has for passengers arriving in oakland

swearing-in ceremony will be held next week. mitchell who began his career with the kansas city police department in missouri served as police chiefs temple, texas, as well as lubbock, texas mitchell will be opd 14th chief in the last decade. he says, although he is an outsider, he already feels at home and is looking forward to getting to work. >> happening tonight, parts of highway 37 between the leyland sonoma county will be shut down once again for repaving work. caltrans says eastbound lanes will be closed, starting at 10 o'clock tonight. the reopen monday morning. >> a local family is giving back and creating a legacy in the health care field. >> this after having their lives change through a free program for mothers by the san francisco health department. kron four's was a good talked with the family and has their story. >> judy lopez is a san francisco native and has been a practicing nurse for over a decade. the mother to says it was a calling to get back and to help others.

>> as a young child, i saw nurses in their uniforms and scrubs as heroes. and i still feel the same way today. >> while pregnant with her second son, julian, she ended up having him prematurely little does she know this was going to change her personal and professional life for ever. >> i found myself in the most wonderful time of my life. and the social worker and everyone was supporting me at the hospital, then realized i could benefit from having a service called field home visiting program where the nurse comes directly to your home. it's voluntary program. and with that guidance, i was able to feel. >> support the support she received came from a free program from others through the san francisco department of public health. she says the experience helped her navigate having a preemie and gave her the skills she would later use. >> we're learning different modalities like how can i keep him healthy and then still make sure that i was to keep

myself healthy. and i was also in grieving stay. i had lost my mom that year. so it was a lot on my plate. but i didn't know that with a nurse coming to the home in my sacred space, my humble home that i felt supported. >> jenny, so inspired by the experience later became a public health nurse herself and didn't forget the program that poured into her. >> actually, the first job that i was hired for was with maternal child adolescent health, the same home visiting program that serves me in my most vulnerable time. so for me, it was such a gift and that little boy who was once a preemie in her lap. >> while she say to become a nurse is now. 22 and just finished his first semester in nursing school. so i think definitely being in her footsteps is something that i a. >> and something and take pride in for sure. and i know that she, you know, loves and is something that we just kind of cherish. it's a special bond for us for sure.

tonight. absolutely beautiful, can't really find a bad spot in the so i mean, this is just another one of those beautiful days outside lots of sunshine all the way. the coastline, even clear things out how the couple patches of fog up toward the beaches early on this morning and we'll see a lot more. i think here's we head in toward the weekend. in fact, even in latest live shot looking up toward the golden gate bridge. you can see the marine air. you start to see a little patch of it. they're little down to the south here before long. that is going to turn and some fog forming overnight tonight and begin to push inside the temperatures. they cooled a little bit today along the coastline. we're down good 2 to 3 degrees. so just the effects of starting to see some of that marine air, that cooler air coming off the ocean water. 6 degrees cooler oakland today. but so it was warmer in some of the valley. so if you thought it was going to be hotter or colder, you're both right today. temperatures topped out at 90 degrees in santa rosa. 90 in concord. 88 livermore. 86 in san jose. 81 degrees in oakland and 78 degrees in san francisco before we started to cool down. but you can see

right there, the cool fog starting to begin to push up from the south. color suddenly surge, low clouds and fog making its way in the monterey bay had a couple of patches kind of burn away along the coastline. so here we sit now getting ready for the approach of some of that fog as we head through the night tonight as high pressure is going to start to weaken. but well, you've got a nice evening if you want to head out there and enjoy it, it's going to be beautiful out there. the sunset just after 8 o'clock tonight, we're going to see mostly clear skies and looks like some beautiful weather ahead. as we head through the evening hours. and boy, the weekend's looking good, it will cool down those. you have to pick your spots over the weekend. don't go to the coastline. expected to be hot by any means. it's going to be foggy and much cooler. you're going to see these numbers. probably 30 degrees cooler along the coast with some patchy fog. still very warm in the valley. some places inland in the upper 80's for tomorrow. >> in san francisco, 2 people were taken to the hospital after a fire at a senior center. you're looking at citizen app video of the scene. there happened just before 11 o'clock this morning on fillmore street in the city's japan town neighborhood. fire crews say

the center has 51 units are more than 100 residents there. they so the fire broke out on the 3rd floor and went up into the 4th floor and the roof. no word tonight on what caused the fire. but i do believe a couple people that have to be taken to the hospital. a san francisco man could face up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing low-income housing benefits. >> gregory think wilson admitted to police that he wrongfully claim the funds in section 8 program subsidies for almost 15 years from 2006 to 2020. department of justice says he lied about his income and running a business out of his house. officials say the more than $340,000 he took went toward credit card debt in payments on a timeshare in hawaii. his sentencing is set for september. >> santa rosa man who killed a man 2 years ago and then tried to extort the victim's girlfriend will spend 20 years to life in prison. one antonio martinez had gone car shopping

with the victim when he later shot and killed him. martinez and stole $15,000 from the victim buried him in a shallow grave and called the victim's girlfriend demanding $165,000 in ransom. he was eventually arrested and confessed leading investigators to the body. >> a big part issue today lead to some problems for writers, six-part stations in the east bay on the red and orange line between richmond and the macarthur station shut down for 7 hours this morning due to mechanical problems. the issue started about 05:00am bart spokeswoman alicia trost says workers were sent to help riders connect with buses to get to their destinations. >> partner, transit agencies don't have the extra buses and drivers this morning. but those stations have great bus service already. and so it's just getting you on the right bus based on where you need to go. >> the problem has been fixed, but it's still unclear what caused the issue. trust says the public transit agency

understands hours-long closure is a big inconvenience, especially at a time when the system is asking for support for a bond measure. in the north bay, santa rosa man celebrated a huge milestone. a big birthday today. yeah, miller turned 107 years old. his fellow residents at brookdale senior living center. >> in santa rosa have a celebration for him and kron four's. rob nesbit was there to catch the surprise. >> happy birthday, bob. there's been a lot of milestone. birthdays celebrated at the brookdale shunning senior living center in santa rosa. but friday was the first time a resident celebrated their 100th trip around the sun. it's why health and wellness director heidi gallagher wanted to do something special for bob on miller. >> he's kind of quiet. but when you engage him, he's has a really wicked personality. he's very sweet. and we really enjoy having him here in our community. all miller wasn't exactly thrilled about the attention, ok, answering a few questions for the news or to get the attention of the now.

but he did let his grandson, alex on miller twig sing his praises. i think for me it's more how we chose to live his life of and his family and the people around him. the 107 year-old was a staff sergeant in the army during world war 2. he was stationed in europe and even fun. the battle of the bulge. a little chapter of u.s. history. refreshing to speak with somebody who >> literally live in an era that is is gone and that he can still speak to that and explain what day to you. joined by his family friends, fellow residents and a service member of the army to celebrate his 100th birthday the man of few words, choosing just to to show his appreciation. thank you're very welcome. in santa rosa, rob nesbitt kron, 4 news.

for the journalism community today. ktla. entertainment news anchor sam rubin has died. he was a staple at our sister station, ktla. sam joined the ktla morning news in 1991 and he was vital to making it the success. >> it is today. sam is a multi award winner and legend in the entertainment community hosting countless red carpets, beloved by co-workers and celebrities alike. many of those celebrities offering their condolences and they're shocked today. sam was just 64 years old. he died suddenly this morning in los angeles, his work spanning the world. he was a contributor for uk and australia news programs as well. he loved his role as husband and dad the most. he was always bragging about his kids and their accomplishments. our hearts are with his wife, leslie and his 4 children. i know ken worked with earlier in his

career. i got my start in news back in 2010 interning for sam in the ktla entertainment news department. he was an incredible influence and presence in my life and career. always keeping us on our toes. little skits forced us to make appearances on air. he swore he was a matchmaker trying to hook people up live on air, including myself. he just never let as i've continued working in the industry always stayed so supportive. i definitely tried to learn my best. buy osmo stis from sam's comedic timing. he was an incredible writer, creative storyteller and i will forever be for his kindness. and of course, his willingness to teach younger folks. lot of times you run into people who don't want to teach those who are in turning for them. but he was 1, 1, of those people that really wanted to see you thrive and succeed. so my thoughts are with his family. as i mentioned, it came as quite a strip surprise, a big shock he

is. >> you know, in the in the bay area, we have kind of are well-known news factors. and he was one of the giants and the king of the entertainment reporting field, which is nobody talks about the hollywood reporting stuff, right? that is the industry in los angeles. it gets covered extensively by the local news media because it's a big deal in la and he was the king of that. he had his pulse on everything. you know, he finger on the pulse he always knew. >> the weirdest little bits different celebrities and filmmakers and that sort of thing, which is what made him so great at. and he's interviewing. he always said like main rule was to not ask them about whatever movie or film they were making. it what kind of terror shampoo are easing and that sort of thing just to kind of, you know, perfect people. yeah, be a little more comfortable. and i was just watching their coverage. a lot of different celebrities were calling in henry winkler calling. and just so, you know, express their shock and sadness for his loss. we're definitely feeling that here as we'll be right back.
