berkeley now is going to start charging rent for the parking spaces that have been utilized to turn the space into parklets. the parklets first popped up, of course, during the pandemic in really served as a lifeline for countless restaurants around the bay use of that street space has been free. but starting next week, berkeley is set to charge restaurants thousands of dollars a year for it. >> going to be a big expense that was going to be hard for us to absorb. so we asked if you can pay the monthly they said yes to that. so are you paying about 1500 bucks a month to read this outdoor space? >> lot of money. the city is now requiring businesses to apply for permits if they want to keep their parklets. well, it was a nice start to the workweek. we had a lot of sunshine around the bay area even along the coastline. we have some sunshine tomorrow morning. you're waking up. think we're starting out very

much the same sunny side up early tomorrow morning. temperatures going to be a little cool to start your day if we do see any fog at all, it will be right along the immediate coast and it's not going to be around for long. plenty of sunshine by 08:00am for everybody. temperatures already starting to warm up and then we're going get those numbers cranked up quite a bit. in fact, some places near 70 degrees in some of the bay and valleys. as we see those temperatures really warming up much warmer weather for tomorrow. but a big cool down on the way. we'll talk more es. >> san jose police say this man who was shot by police on sunday was a felon in possession of a firearm. police took him into custody after they say he was shooting at an apartment complex. and later shot at officers. it all went down off kolmar road in east san jose behind capital and story roads. kron four's jack moment has details along with what the police department is saying. >> the shooting here that happened sunday in the seaside san jose apartment complex is the 3rd officer-involved shooting to happen so far this year having city leaders want to look further into these

officer-involved shootings when they do happen. it also has residents here at this apartment complex, a concern this apartment complex was filled with people enjoying a warm sunday evening. it all started with a 9-1-1 call people living at this east side. san jose complex reporting a man shooting a gun outside his van. he was later identified as 41 year-old ricardo view, every out and by the time police arrived shortly after 4 in the afternoon. the suspect then pointed his firearm at one of the u.s. at one of the responding officers while aggressively advancing towards him. this prompted a separate officer to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect man was critically injured. one neighbor showed us this parking garage where she says police marks the bullet holes. she says one car here was towed away and additional details are still unfolding. but one thing's certain people here are on i was it was care. mendoza moved here just this year and says his family was watching tv when fort and will we hear one shot? >> and simon, we're

>> 6 saying he heard what happened from a neighbor. she was in the on the guy is what not and the weather couple of streets in as a view. every al has served 10 years before for assault on a police officer. the gun he had sunday. >> was unregistered frequency of san jose police officers being shot at or hit by gunfire. he's gone from a rare anomaly to a regular occurrence. san jose police say the threat to officers is increasing and they want to form a group to study each time an officer was shot at in the coming days. i will bring together a group of internal and external partners for the purpose of analyzing these attacks. now, san jose police says that the shooting is still very much under investigation. questions as to why the shooting happened in the first place or why neighbors called saying that there was a man shooting out of his van. those are still yet to be determined. meantime, the every hour remains in the hospital in critical condition where he said san jose jack moment. >> kron 4 news. >> the man convicted of attacking paul pelosi at his

san francisco home is set to be re-sentenced next week. david de pap was initially sentenced friday to 30 years in prison. but after that hearing, a federal judge said she failed to give dipak the opportunity to speak during sentencing, which legal experts say is very important in a case like this. >> it takes consideration whether the defendant, the accused now the convicted in this case, the pop is sorry for what he did. >> kron 4 legal expert michael cardoza says the paps lawyers could try to continue appealing the case despite the judge correcting her mistake, dip apps, re-sentencing hearing has now been set for next tuesday. >> tonight, antioch police say the death of a homeless man who was killed last week was due to blunt force trauma to the head and chest flowers have been placed today at the spot. the desmond cole lost his life. that's gators found a large rock at the scene. but

they're not sure if that was the murder weapon. we talked to some people who knew that man. >> mean, you know, i mean, i think he had his issues. >> but the big, you know, you never did wrong anybody that i know. you know, mean, it would talk out loud little bit, you know, but >> that was just him. investigators say they're still looking for a potential suspect. in san leandro. a 13 year-old boy has been arrested. he's accused of stabbing and killing an 18 year-old in a safe way. police say it happened at the bancroft avenue location in early april. they say surveillance video revealed the 13 year-old was the attacker and say both teams had a dispute before the 13 year-old stabbed the victim in the chest and arm. the younger teen is arrested last week at his high school. take a look at this. a garbage truck caught fire in san francisco's tenderloin. your height and ellis streets around 11 o'clock this morning. in the video, you can see the smoke and flames coming from the back of the truck. >> it's not clear what caused

that fire. another fire in san francisco today. this one in russian hill, the marvin screeners of polk and broadway caught fire crews say one of the machines caught fire. that's what started fortunately, nobody was hurt here. officials from the port of oakland say they're seeing a lot of activity in the last 6 months. they say there's been a 17% increase container imports this year compared to the same time last year. the port also posted an increase in exports by almost 7%. officials say recent infrastructure upgrades have given the poor to boost helping volume of imported and exported goods to return to pre-pandemic highs. teachers in contra costa county of reached a tentative agreement with the office of education on a new contract. teachers are set to get a 6% raise in july. their agreement also allows the salary for next school year to be renegotiated for a cost of living adjustment. and more than 1500 academic workers at uc santa

>> new at 10, 2 robbery suspects have been arrested after police say they stole money and they still a car in the city. but the suspects ran into something unexpected as here trying to get away from police. officers say the robbery took place in overnight at 8th and folsom streets. police say they found the suspects in the stolen car, but when they tried to pull them over, they led them on a chase. they eventually crashed into a driverless car

on folsom and 14th near costco. that's what ended the chase. both suspects were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. >> ends up in the car along 6.80, here. the chp says the shooting was yesterday in san ramon. they say nobody was hurt, but they did find and arrest the shooter who they say is from forest hill. they also say they found a gun in his car. police in oakland are investigating a deadly shooting that happened just outside of oakland city hall. it happened overnight on 14th street. >> near frank ogawa plaza and broadway officers say they found a man with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital where he later died. anyone who has any information is asked to call oakland police. oakland. police are also asking for your help. they're trying to solve the case of the killing of a father and fiance. they say george. >> casey was shot and killed on crosby avenue near foothill boulevard on november. 26th last year. officers say he was sending outside with friends

the bay. you're seeing lot of sunshine coming our way right now. you see the haze out there right now. but boy, by tomorrow, you're going to be talking about lots of sunshine and really some nice weather ahead. temperatures out the door right now. you got 59 degrees in san jose to 64 rather mild in concord. 66 in pittsburgh. 56 degrees in nap and 54 degrees in timber on. we are expecting high pressure take care of us and that ridge really kind of holding on today, little more of a northerly component. you see that fog beginning to erode as you get a little that northerly wind out there. and that's what we're going to see developing overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. right now, just enough of a sea breeze bring some of that haze and some patchy fog in toward the coastline, but not for long. we're going to see a lot of sunshine coming our way. the temperatures will be warm around much of the bay area. tomorrow's high pressure really kind of builds in, but it's kind of going to be a one hit wonder at we're going to see the cooling trend beginning on wednesday, the cooler weather beginning to rotate in then much cooler weather as we head in toward the weekend. temperatures out the door for tomorrow. how about this? a beautiful, sunny 67 degrees in san francisco.

oakland, you're going to be on the warm side, sunny, and how about 78 degrees and san jose? yeah, not bad either. you're talking sunny and warm. you're going to be up in the 80's by tomorrow afternoon and over the next few days. yep, the sunshine going to change just a bit. i think a few more clouds going to roll in on wednesday. cooler temperatures on wednesday into next weekend. thank you, lawrence. a parked car in oakland caught fire crews on international boulevard near clinton park. putting out flames this evening. >> no word on how this random seemingly random fire started. >> after 22 years in business, the lakeshore cafe in oakland has announced tofay are shutting down closing for good. in a week. memorial day will be their last day for the popular breakfast and lunch spot right near lake merritt. the owners didn't say why they were leaving but did say a new restaurant would soon be opening in its place. >> red lobster has filed for bankruptcy. the restaurant chain already close several locations, including in fremont and rohnert park in a court filing read lobster says it will use the bankruptcy to

crews rescued a guy who drove off a cliff and was thrown from his

car. it happened yesterday morning off highway one. >> near jenner in sonoma county. the driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but is expected to make it no word tonight on what caused that crash. >> home depot's had to pay 1.3 million dollars after a fire at one of its stores in san jose. here's some video of when that fire broke out to the store in 2022 cents. and the santa clara county district attorney's office began investigating home depot stores throughout the county. investigators say the store had several fire code violations that hurt firefighting efforts that included broken sprinkler system that home depot was allegedly aware of didn't try to fix the da's office says dylan go qui started the fire as he was trying to steal tools. he has not entered a plea despite several court appearances, his 11th time in court is set to happen next month for an arraignment. state tax offic als say more than 600,000 people in california. >> have not touched their inflation relief money. the

feel safe in the area. they're not they don't feel a sense of welcoming us to help. the mural will be replaced with something that brings communities together. some residents remaining neutral. i think this era. >> such moves create conversation that you very critical and >> in today's environment, 14 tiffany justice kron. 4 news. >> the man was killed after getting hit by a car that police say was driven by a minor. it happened early yesterday morning in gilroy neae saint louise regional hospital skaters say the victim was 23 years old. they did not reveal the age of the minor. they say the driver waited for police to arrive and is cooperating with the investigation. san jose, he's installing 33 new high-speed cameras throughout the city. they plan to have them all installed by the end of 2025. >> this year the city council will decide where the cameras will go, vote on that in the fall. city leaders say law enforcement well not have access to the camera footage and that cameras will only be used to enforce speed limits,

plans to build a high-speed rail line connecting san francisco to southern california cleared another hurdle. a report from the la times says that high-speed rail officials support the latest recommendations for 33 mile segment connecting anaheim los angeles. that clears the way for an environmental review, which is expected to take more than a year to finish. construction is already underway on 119 mile stretch of the rail line in the central valley. this comes as the federal transit administration is investing billions into san francisco's public transit systems. the portal is a project to connect caltrain and california's high-speed rail to the salesforce transit center in downtown san francisco that the image you saw is what it could look like today. the federal transit administration invested 3.4 billion dollars to the project. congresswoman nancy pelosi says she's proud of how san francisco's pushing the boundaries for public transportation. >> we show that san francisco is in forefront that saffron.

and we'll start to switch gears toward the golden gate bridge looking good. little hazy out there toward the bridge right now. but overall, i think the pattern fairly impressive list for another day or so tonight, mostly clear, we may see a couple patches of fog right along the immediate coastline tomorrow, mostly sunny, all the way, the coastline and warm, too. but little fog developing along the coast as we head toward the afternoon, really a warm start to this week ahead, but ending much cooler as we're going to see a big change coming our way. look at the humidity right now. and as we head through the day tomorrow, look what happens. you start to see that offshore wind. you can see the little arrows. all of a sudden we're down to 9% relative humidity inland down 14%, places like concord, down 10% limb or so drying out that offshore wind. that's going bring a nice, warm temperatures and that beautiful weather to along the coastline. of course, you get a little sea breeze and that will keep him much cooler. and then by late in the day, return of some of that fog you see here on the forecast models, too, as we head through the night tonight, here's your fog cast and you see a couple patchy fog forming right along the immediate coastline. otherwise the rest, the bay area stay

mostly clear. and then as we head to the middle of day tomorrow, looking good. and that fog begins to return by tomorrow afternoon and evening. more of that on the way as we head toward wednesday, temperatures around the bay or tomorrow about 67 degrees downtown san francisco. 65 in golden gate park at about 63 degrees in the sunset on the coastline. again, you have just enough of the seabreeze to keep you cooler. but i think we'll see sunshine out toward the beaches for tomorrow until the afternoon. when the fog starts to move back about 60 degrees in burlingame and sunny should be a beautiful day in san carlos. in 73, 74 would side and 76 degrees in mount view. the south bay filled with 80's by tomorrow afternoon. 83 for friends in sunnyvale. 82 in saratoga. 84 in campbell, about 82 degrees in downtown san jose east bay, maybe some mid 80's. so really starting to move those temperatures up a bit thick tomorrow. probably going to be the warmest day of the week and then we'll start to watch those numbers to get a tumble as early as wednesday. maybe a little bit on the hot side as you make a way to vacaville about 90 degrees. 81 in napa and 85 degrees in santa rosa. here we

spent more on all the things i had bought the due here to price wars between retail giants are giving consumers an edge. so why the sudden cuts to rake in customers? what we're seeing right now is basically a response to years of high inflation. so for many consumers, especially those living paycheck to paycheck. >> this is an untenable situation and they are cutting back on their spending. and that is what's freaking out. retailers already, walmart has announced its own aggressive price cuts and to compete. >> target has now stepped up with a new multi-pronged price cut strategy. inflation slightly cooled last month after being unexpectedly high from january to march. while consumer prices rose 0.3% from march to april. last says it's all about getting you in the door, even if these big box retailers have to take a loss on certain items. at this point, it's all about volume. the more people you can get into the store, the more chances you have of making sales. so even though milk butter and other such products might become less leaders at
