news. a san jose community is left wondering. >> what led to a shooting between police and a man in their neighborhood. well, city of oakland is switching traffic lights to stop signs. this comes as these are now targeting the lights for copper. and business owners in berkeley may soon have to pay rent for their parklet. will talk more about this coming up.

morning again with temperatures cool enough for that light jacket. if you'll be out there for more than just a few minutes later on today. daytime highs right back up into the 70's to 80's today is going to be the warmest day of this forecast with some of our highs reaching into the mid to even upper 80's at the very hottest. i'll be talking generally cooler weather after today. still ahead, roadways this morning. things are looking. alright, issues in the bay bridge or any of our other bridges so far, which is nice to see things are getting busy kennerly, though, at the same. bridge richmond center fell 8 minutes while a look at the golden gate, just the slightest hint of any fog out there. great. all right that. so we're now learning new details this morning. >> on the shooting involving police in san jose. well, police say they shot a man who had a gun and later shot at them. proffers. moment has that story. >> well, the shooting here that happened sunday in the

seaside san jose apartment complex is the 3rd officer-involved shooting to happen so far this year having city leaders want to look further into these officer-involved shootings when they do happen. it also has residents here at this apartment complex, a concern. >> it all started with a 9-1-1 call people living at this east side. san jose complex reporting a man shooting a gun outside his van. he was later identified as 41 year-old ricardo view. every out and by the time police arrived shortly after 4 in the afternoon. >> this prompted a separate officer to discharge his firearm striking the suspect man was critically injured. one neighbor showed us this parking garage where she says police march the bullet holes and additional details are still unfolding. but one thing's certain people here are on was scared. it was care. mendoza moved here just this year and says his family was watching tv when fort and where we hear one shot. >> and simon, later, we're late. >> 6 saying he heard what

happened at the bancroft avenue location back in early april. they say surveillance video revealed the 13 year-old was the attacker and they say both tea h a dispute before the 13 year-old stabbed the victim in the chest and the arm the young suspect was arrested last week at his high school. and settlement was arrested in connection to a highway shooting. police say they arrested lee o'connor of forest hill after identifying him as the shooter in the incident along 6.80. that's north acosta boulevard. during that arrest, police say they also found a gun in o'connor's car. no one was injured in that shooting. happening today, san francisco city officials and nurses as a cupboard. san francisco general hospital plan to announce new legislation. they say we'll address a nursing shortage. the ballots specifically address the shortage of nurses. and i want operators in the city. they say the legislation would improve the retention and recruitment of essential workers and would let full-time registered nurses by

that time worked as per diem. nurses for retirement credit. also get 9-1-1, operators, the same safety retirement benefits as other first responders. if approved, the measure will be on the november ballot. a press conference to announce that legislation is going to be at 10 o'clock this morning right outside of bank of america plaza on pre trail avenue. also happening today, more than 200 rideshare and delivery drivers for lyft. uber doordash. they'll plan to rally outside the california supreme court as the court considers illegal palette challenge to prop 22. so the law said drivers for companies like uber, lyft are independent contractors ans i'm not entitled to benefits after the law passed, a lower court ruled that it was unconstitutional. but that ruling was later reversed. seiu appealed that decision and the state's highest court agreed to hear the case. the workers say they don't support the measure because it denies him the ability to make a living wage and basic rights like paid sick leave over

>> time right now since hoping that step say, you know what, this we reached out to the mayor's office city administration and city councilmember nikki fortunato bas but did not hear back in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in oakland kron. 4 on the north. they one person is dead and 2 others were sent to the hospital after a crash in toledo. >> crash happened sunday night on toll parkway west of linden street. this and he saw was driving east on current whole when it hit a center divider, lost control, drove right into on-coming traffic on the other side of the street before hit a honda. police say the person driving the nissan died at the scene and a woman riding in the nissan and right in the hon a had to be taken to the hospital. police say drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor in that crash. san jose installing 33 new high-speed cameras throughout the city. so in late 2025. so he's trying to see if the cameras are going to help reduce

high-speed collisions this year. the city council will decide where the cameras are going to be placed and a vote on it this fall. city leaders say the goal is for the cameras to be evenly split around the city to make sure communities of color and low income neighborhoods. also get cameras the first 60 days of the program. drivers are going to be a warning. but afterwards there will be fines and low income drivers. going to be asked to provide community service hours instead of pain. city leaders said law enforcement will not have access to camera footage. the cameras are only going to be used to enforce speed limits. officials from the port of oakland say they're seeing a lot of activity in the last 6 months. they say there's been a 17% increase in container imports this year compared to the same time last year. the port also posted an increase in exports by nearly 7%. officials say recent infrastructure upgrades have given the poor to boost helping the volume of imported and exported goods to return

we have 4 things know today. a man was killed after being hit by a car that police say was driven by minor sunday morning. this is near saint louise regional hospital. investigators say the victim was 23 years old, did not reveal the age of the it say the driver waited for police to arrive and is cooperating. to our suspects were arrested last night after police say they stole money and a card. san francisco robbery happened 8 folsom streets. police say they found the suspect in a

found alex stretcher and his dog near the san antonio reservoir yesterday afternoon. they've been missing for 3 days. police say the 2 seem to be in good health. stretchers dog started the hike friday. it's a no regional wilderness. they were scheduled to be picked up saturday. a delta regional park and they were called and missing after he failed to show up. more than 1500 academic workers and uc santa cruz. they went on strike yesterday over the school's handling of pro-palestinian protests. so academic workers say free speech was violated. the demanding officials negotiate with pro-palestinian demonstrators and grant amnesty to people who facing disciplinary action related to the unrest. university officials say the strike is illegal as the academic workers strike cross the striking uc santa cruz could be the first potential series of labor strikes and campuses across the uc system. for your money. the price war has begun. target now lowering prices on 1000 items in an

>> well, a parked car in oakland catches on fire crews on international boulevard right near clifton park, putting out the flames yesterday evening. don't have any word yet on what started that fire in the first place. meanwhile, a garbage truck caught fire in san francisco. this was in the tenderloin right near high daniela streets, 7.11, yesterday. >> in the video, you can actually see the flames rising from the back of the truck. it's not clear what caused the fire in the first place as well. and another fire san francisco with this one and martin's cleaner polk and broadway in russian hill. firefighters say one of the machines caught fire around 3 o'clock yesterday. it took about an hour to put it out. no injuries were reported. there. let's head of the peninsula because a man was arrested in connection to an arson and san mateo county. >> the sheriff's office says the fire started pretty early saturday morning in the community caught princeton by the see in the area of airport street and yale avenue. they

>> welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news as we're inching ever so closely to 05:30am. it was a really nice and clear at dry commute in this morning actually saw the full moon. john, on the way to work. super bright over the san francisco based a little thing to be watching as you're driving it has set over the western horizon. see, you're not seeing it so much anymore. but skies are clear this morning. so we've got a gorgeous morning regardless. >> you can see a little bit of fog having streamed its way through the golden gate right now. it's not resulting in too many visibility issues. in fact, what we got out there is some pretty clear skies for the vast majority of another easy going morning commute as

far as what mother nature is offering us up cooler and cut cover atcthe coastline. what we are seeing some pretty strong winds up in the north bay. vacaville atlas, peak calistoga. 25 to 35 miles per hour. right now, temperatures are cool in the 40's to 50's. go ahead and throw on that light jacket this morning. if you're going to be outside for more than just a few minutes, areas like snow 43 dublin livermore. 51 sf at fifty-two degrees right now. now later on today, daytime highs will be the warmest of this week's forecast climbing into the mid to upper 80's for inland areas. some solid upper 70's along the bay shore today. i'll be talking generally cooler weather after today. still ahead, your forecast roadways this morning are doing just fine. the bay bridge is still really empty. we're getting to that point that usually see the metering lights turned on. but hey, so bad right now. san mateo bridge at 13 minutes to be cure crossing there. well, the richmond, sandra fell and the golden gate are also free of

any backups, zipper truck coming through about to reconfigure those lanes and not a lot else going on there at that span. great. all right, john, thank you for that. new this morning, the city of san jose. they're expected to install 33 new traffic speed cameras. >> across the city, this comes in an effort to reduce the number of traffic fatalities. the city has been experiencing. favre is michael thomas live in san jose right outside the police department. michael, with a look at how the program is going to be working morning. >> hi, good morning, everyone. as we know over the last few years, the city of san jose, he's really faced dozens of traffic fatalities in the hope is that with these new cameras, not only will it be warning people to slow down, but it could actually save lives. take a look. this is general video. we've got up on your screen so you can break it all down. this is also to happen by the year 2025, it will be a total of 33 speed cameras installed in high collision areas across the city of san jose essentially monitoring how fast drivers are going then mailing them

tickets if they are speeding now for the first 60 days of the program, drivers will only be getting a warning. but then after that, they will be fined. low-income drivers will be asked to provide community service hours rather than paying and law enforcement will not have access to the camera. footage in the cameras will only be used to enforce the speed limit. so it only take a photo of the back license plate, not any ai facial features. the city council is set to vote later this year. and it's exactly where these cameras will be placed in. city leaders are hoping that the goal is to evenly split. the cameras across the city, making sure that communities of color and low-income neighborhoods get the attention that they need in the speeding areas. it's all part of an assembly bill. 6.45, which is statewide and selling these cameras not only in san jose, but over in oakland and san francisco, along with 3 others down in southern california by the year 2032, most of it is being paid for by a grant from the safe streets and roads for all of its fund of around
