but probably not. until really wednesday. and then it will call right back down again. so on monday breeze for some wind for others breezy to windy, cooler, mostly sunny and temperatures will be below average here with, uh, sixties to near 70, but well below average here for sun livermore, san jose. alright it's 401 in the morning and he's here. mr south, castigated to tell us you don't traffic is off to a decent start, steve. i like what i see here. if you're driving to the bay bridge, one of the toll lanes there is closed from some things that happened last night, but it's not really affecting traffic so much traffic continues to move along pretty well into san francisco. there have been no major issues on the bridge. and right now it looks good on interstate 8 80 in oakland, where traffic is moving well at 401. let's get back to the desk. thank you. sal in san francisco are investigating multiple, illegal and dangerous side shows from over the weekend. people living and working in the area say they want something done to

crack down on those who participate. ktvu elissa harrington spoke with one frustrated business owner who says he has left cleaning up the mess left behind. sam haba showed us graffiti and other damage to his business. gabby's market in delhi in san francisco big mess the family run store is located on the corner of main and harrison streets near the bay bridge. this is what that intersection looked like. in the middle of the night, crowds of people gathered for an illegal sideshow ridiculous every other month. they come by the streets. this is what the street looked like. sunday tire marks, broken glass and graffiti on the sides of several buildings, abbas said . during the sideshow, the burning rubber sent up a cloud of smoke that made it hard to breathe. he lives in the apartments above the delhi people are frightened, you know, i mean, people shaken up. you

know, they're saying no, we're in the best neighborhoods, but nobody is doing anything about it. not even our mayor. not even our district attorney, not even our police. we don't know what to do. i reached out to the san francisco police department. they said they responded to the area around 12:41 a.m. for a report of stunt driving cellphone video on social media shows. police drive up with lights and sirens. police then responded to another sideshow about 30 minutes later in the balboa park neighborhood than a third at 13th and south venice around two a.m. there were no arrests in an email, police wrote. in each incident, the sfpd stunt driving response unit arrived on scene and is conducting investigations for each location. elissa harrington ktvu, fox two news all right. thank you. alyssa. happening tonight, the pittsburgh city council will start to consider a plan to make it illegal to watch

a sideshow even if they're held on private property, city, officials say, because of crackdowns on side shows on public roads. some drivers have started holding events on privately owned locations, but officials say that still put spectators in danger. supporters of the idea say banning spectators would prevent people from being injured or killed. however state law does not allow a ban on private property side shows oakland police are investigating a fatal stabbing of a man nearly oakland's lake merritt. officers were called the lakeshore avenue, where they found a man with several stab wounds. he was rushed to the hospital, but later died. as a result of those wounds. police say, this is the fourth homicide along that part of lakeshore avenue in the last six months. no other details have been released about the victim. the mother of san francisco district attorney chase a. boudin has died from cancer at the age of 78. kathy boudin was a member of a radical group called the weather underground. she took

part in a robbery where three people were killed her son she's a was just 14 months old. when the crime occurred. she was sent to prison for 22 years and chasing boudin says that shaped his views of the criminal justice system. hundreds of young people cycled through the streets of san francisco to help raise awareness for an important nonprofit in their community. ktvu zach sous, has more on the mission behind the event. mhm hundreds of young people taking to the streets of san francisco was amazing to go and take all these young people. 1300 plus to go all the way to the city and just lay on the grass for a minute and get some sunshine with just amazing. these part of what makes norberto hernandez is pandemic born nonprofit, so special families who live in overcrowded housing were feeling anxiety. and so parents said, roberto, can you do some of these kids? and so now mission

say the rent for the staff is quote significantly lower than market rates. the new apartments opened yesterday and have enough units to house roughly 25% of the district's employees. the plan is to build more housing to provide affordable places to live for the rest of their workers. a new state law that went into effect this past weekend dramatically expands california's medical coverage. now california is the first state in the country to provide health care to all low income residents 50 year older regardless of their immigration status. supporters of the measure say many older people often don't see a doctor until it's too late. this gives you the security that now you can come in. now you can get your physicals. now you can be preventative about your health care and i have to wait until something gets really, really bad. a family of four can make up to $38,000 in be eligible for coverage through the state's insurance. those 65 older are eligible for medical no matter their income level. the city of

san francisco now has expanded its free diaper program to include all low income residents , including immigrants and undocumented families. mayor london buried says this move will double the number of eligible families for the city program monthly diaper bills for a single baby often ranges between $80 to $100 a month. sunday train service has returned to the north bay for the first time since the pandemic began. in ktvu is james torres explains why officials at the sonoma marin area regional transit system, or smart, say now is the right time to bring that service back. smart sonoma county airport station is the northernmost point of the train service and people we spoke to today riding the train say, having it available on a sunday morning is extremely convenient. for the first time in two years . smart trains are moving along tracks on a sunday morning. sounds like it's convenient. we haven't taken the train since what first started scaled back

its services in april 2020 due to the threat of covid-19. it's since slowly brought it all back . i think that there's a lot of demand for sunday service we hear about it and customer service, so this is really due to popular demand. ridership is on the rise, according to an agency spokesperson. the number of people riding smart trains increased by about 48% when you compare april two january, smart reported more than 35,000 passengers in march, the highest number of riders since the beginning of the pandemic. businesses are bringing their employees back. so we are seeing our commute, ridership increase. but we're also seeing increasing recreational writers. these riders are taking the train to the larkspur ferry and heading to the giants game. actually you know, this is the first time we've been to a giants game this year. and the train. being here is part of the reason why we're going as well before the pandemic smart saw about 700,000 passengers a year. board members are now budgeting for nearly 600,000 for next year. they also

groups representing unions and workers marched down san jose santa clara street, calling upon people to continue the fight for expanded workers' rights that there is a living wage. that immigrants rights that people are not taking advantage of anywhere that we stopped wage theft. that's the majority of what this is about. suzanne remy in went from a non union private sector job to a unionized public sector position 15 years ago. what i find with unions is a very fair, you get an increased based on the economy. you have medical support. um i just feel so much more taken care of recently successful efforts by small groups of workers to unionize at starbucks and amazon give the appearance of a potential resurgence of unionization as observed by a public sector union rep on outside i see i see growth. when we see someone like amazon looking to unionize starbucks,

those are those are new opportunities and huge growth when they get moving, but that potential growth isn't reflected in union membership, at least not yet, according to the bureau of labor statistics, us. union membership actually declined in 2021 to 10.3. down from 10.8% in 2020 well down from about 20% in the early eighties. we will not stay quiet. at roosevelt park workers called for better wages , working conditions and unionization in the fast food industry and event organizer said more union jobs are needed to protect workers, especially immigrants. who often work in fast food, but when you have a union that's backing you, you have a union that is enforcing the laws, ensuring that you are paid what you're worth, ensuring that you are paid for all the time that you are that you work. and ensuring that you know your rights. the national labor relations board reports that in the first half of the 2022 fiscal year petitioned to begin the process of starting a union

are up 75. compared to last year . greg liggins, ktvu fox two news. thank you. greg the city of santa clara has avoided a strike that was set to begin this morning, negotiators for the city reached a tentative agreement with more than 100 operation and maintenance workers who clean city buildings. the proposed deal provides those workers with the one time payment of $5000 and salary increases over the next three years. the santa clara city council is expected to approve the agreement later this month. the settlement in santa clara follows rallies marking may day may 1st is a day that celebrates the accomplishments of labor unions. hundreds of people showed up for a made a march and rally in downtown san francisco. similar events in cities around the world. a may day rally in france turned violent hundreds of demonstrators angry about the labor policies of newly reelected president emmanuel macron took to the streets of paris. they battled with police in riot gear for several hours in a protest that included

somw don't have to worry about finding affordable housing close to their jobs. the jefferson union high school district just opened up affordable staff apartments on sarah monte boulevard. they say the rent for staff is quote significantly lower than market rate. the new apartments opened yesterday and have enough units to house roughly 25% of the district's employees. the plan is to build more housing to provide affordable places to live for the rest of their workers. a new state law that went into effect this weekend dramatically expands california's medical coverage. california is now the first state in the nation to provide health care coverage to all low income residents, 50 or older, regardless of their

north and south. it doesn't look all that slow. and if you're driving on the same mateo bridge that looks pretty good. six o'clock, let's go back to the headlines. thank you, sal new this morning and oakland police officers recovering after the officers patrol car was hit by another vehicle during an investigation of the shooting that happened around 8 30 last night near the intersection of peralta and 14th street's this is a video that was posted on the citizen app. police say a car possibly tied to the gunfire struck the officers patrol car while speeding away from the scene of the shooting. the officer was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. he is listed in stable condition. but police have not yet released any details about the shooting that the officers were investigating. oakland police are investigating how a man was after a man was stabbed to death near oakland's like merit officers responded to a call at lakeshore avenue, where they found the man suffering from several stab wounds. he was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries. police say this is the fourth homicide along that part of lakeshore

congestion, putting busses behind schedule and blocking emergency vehicles. this coming weekend on friday and saturday night. police in berkeley say they will be out in force to issue tickets for double parking. caltrain will be running fewer trains during the week. for most of this month. usually the rail system operates 104 trains per day. starting today that will drop to 88 trains. that is so caltrain can start electrifying its tracks in burlingame in san mateo. that work is scheduled to be done. by may 20th. i know it's important work, but it comes as other transit agencies sell are increasing the number of trains in the frequency of their service and that obviously we're going to keep a watch on that. so far, we haven't had any major caltrain delays and we'll see how they can. manage that with their new schedule. good morning , and let's talk about some of the commutes. now that we see trying to get up on a monday morning, as we mentioned, we knew that this was coming. there's a little bit of a delay now that the metering lights have been turned on at the bay bridge. 8 80 looks pretty good

we're getting more information about a woman who was hit and killed on saturday in san jose. police say the woman was was hit and killed by two different drivers saturday evening, getting off the freeway at capitol avenue and highway 6 80 . they say the women was not in a marked crosswalk when it happened. they have now been 31 traffic fatalities in san jose so far this year. over the weekend, ktvu learned what caused the death of a rookie san jose police officer last month, the santa clara county medical examiner's office confirms to us here at ktvu, the 24 year old dijon packer died of fentanyl toxicity. packer was a former star football player at san jose state university and was just finishing up his first year as the san jose police officer. san jose police released a statement reading in part we need to be mindful of the fact that we are not immune to issues that plague society in this case, substance abuse as humans. we are not perfect and mistakes will be made. officer wellness is paramount priority at our agency
