developing news right now in san francisco. water sent gushing into the air in stern grove park. >> ktvu christien kafton live there now. and kristen looks like they were able to turn off the water. but all that work is really just getting started to clean it up. >> yeah, that's exactly right. we arrived here on scene just tr off. but we have seen this crater and the damage and show it to you right now so you can get a sense for yourself of just how much damage was caused. you can see this massive crater that is here, just where wawona ends, close to the end of stern grove, right at stern grove park. and if we turn just a little bit to the right, you can actually see the water main sticking up out of the ground that is where the water was coming out of, starting at around 930 this morning. let's go and show you some video that we have that we took earlier to show you just how muchúwater we are we talkede supervisor for this district, joel engardio. he tells me that around 930 this morning, the resident that is closest to that water main felt a rumble that

they describe. initially they thought was an earthquake. they looked out and saw that geyser out a gigantic crater near thed- home. there are crews here in the area assessing the home, assessing the surrounding area. it took crews about an hour to get that water shut off to this location. that water stopped right around 1130. now, at this time, the city's public utilities commission and water and sewer department are investigating to see what actually may have been of this water main break. we've also asked just how big that water main was. point. but again, you got a sense just from looking at it ie described. we have talkedúarea e saidúwhen they looked out and they saw it, it looked like it was a geyser outside. they said it reminded them of being in napa and actually watching a geyser. now the san francisco water, power and sewer, the

public utilities commission said that some customers in the area pressure. we have talked with a spcouple of people in the area. they've said so far they have not, noticed a change in their water pressure repairs, though they're saying could take some time simply because of the size of that pipe. now, we do have crews here who are in the to trr and make sure that they have ample room to move around and do the work that they need to get done as well,útraffic, they say, could have also been impacted. we did not see a lot of big down at the end of a cul de sac that ends right at stern grove expected to be minimal. we have heard that crews are going to be where we're standing right now, just to make sure that nobody can getc crater and there's no, injuries as a result of any of this. we are still looking for answers, trying to have caused this water main break in

united for osaka, japan, suddenly lost a rear wheel. i was just like, oh my god, i cangt believe it's happening. and i justc saw that just like, what's going on? >> did they know it wasújust after 1130 among the 249 aboard the boeing 777, evan schroeder and his friend devin, unaware of whatc had just happened, what kind of triggered a little bit of nervousness for us was when we looked at our window, we were right into a car and sfo's employee parking lot. but airport officials say no one was hurt. >> i'm just glad nobody, nobody got hurt in the cars, out of land, back in the air, the two high school seniors, part of a missionary group from illinois, say a message came out over the loudspeaker. >> all we heard was there's like an object that was interfering with the plane. then 30 minutes later, we were kind of just going in circles, burning off fuel, and they said that air traffic control that it was acta

a plane slid off the runway at george bush intercontinental airport in houston. officials say united airlines flight had just landed when it started to veer off the runway and into the grass. none of the 160 passengers and six crew members were hurt and safely evacuated off that plane. united is working to remove that plane now. the incident, as we said, under investigation by the faa. >> police are investigating a burglary at an alameda just a day after a similar burglary in an oakland jewelry store where thieves tried to use a chain to yankc a safe out. and theyúdraggedúit for a bit. ktvu amanda quintana has that story. >> caution tape blocks gas stata sp, bridgeside shopping center, where burglars crashed through the doors to steal an atm. >> you can see the spot where they ripped it out and the cashier, he was telling mec that the guys, they backed the truck in it, and then just it out andr

school added a crossing guard al year, which has helped, but the students still want more protections now, in response to the cupertino transportation manager says the city is committed to safe roads for all users most progressive city in the bay area in making roadway improvements spto achieve the the biggest foe city's investments is around schools and ensuring students arrive to school and back home safely. >> well, february jobs report is giving us a new snapshot of the us economy. fox's edward lawrence takes a look inside those numbers. there were more new jobs than forecasted in february, though. >> the unemployment rate rose. the job market created 275,000 new jobs last month. about 75,000 more than expected, and the unemployment rate rose to 3.9, breaking a three month streak of unemployment at 3.7. >> rise in employment is a big thing and might put a little pressure on the fed, so that's i think that's a good thing. >> while hiring continued at a brisk pace in february, the labor department revised its

readings from the previous two months. january's blockbuster 353,000 gain was revised lower to 229,000. >> the revision downward revision in january is not that surprising because that's the biggest month for seasonal adjustments. so i'm glad they got it right, for lack of a better word. >> meanwhile, the labor force participation rate held steady for aúthird consecutive month, coming in at sign of progress for the fed's inflation fighting. average hourly earnings rose one tenth of a percent. a smaller increase than forecasted jobc gains came in in health care hotels, restaurants and government. on the flip side, hiring fell slightly in manufacturing. >> the government is running creating a lot of jobs. that is- surprisingly we're not seeing those jobs in manufacturing yet, despite the enormous growth in spending on manufacturing construction going forward, some economists would like to see the

now has a new lawyer, a new attorney has been appointed to defend shannon o'connor after she requested a public defender. the santa clara county judge has set a hearing for june 5th to schedule a trial, but o'connor's new attorney expects the case will take months to resolve and says the trial may not happen this year, hundreds of parentsc of uc berkeley students have formed a newc nonprofit over concerns the city and university aren't doing enough to keep campus safe. >> the groupúis called safe bears. it says robberies on and near the cal campus have gone up, and that student housingt& doesn't have enough security. members also say their request forúbetter public safety have not been addressed.c parents are askingúfor more campus police and safety training for students. another big retailer zara will close its store on post street. a spokesperson for the company says the lease for the building expires in january, and the company zara has anothet emporium center, which used to be known as westfield mall. that
