queer and trans nuns has become a san francisco institution, spreading joy while capturing the public's interest. coincidentally march 31st is also transgender day of visibility. three sisters came from around the world to celebrate in their founding city. >> we all come together in the spirit of togetherness and joy to spread that joy and give it to other people, and that just recharges the battery for me. >> the event offered activities for people of all ages, including an easter egg hunt and games for children. there was also an easter bonnet competition and later in the day, hunky jesus and foxy mary contests. >> about 100 people hiked up to the highest point in san francisco at sunrise today. it was all part of a 100 year old easter tradition. a crowd of worshipers gathered at the mount davidson cross. it stands about 100ft tall. this easter service is intended to renew hope regardless of your background or what you believe in, this beautiful moment of unity and

simplicity as we all gather together and celebrate easter morning together. >> it's a it's a powerfully peaceful and uniting experience. >> mayor london breed was among those who took part. she shared how as an adult, she has a greater understanding of the messages she learned growing up going to church with her grandmother. >> new at 11, rideshare drivers are planning to rally for fair treatment and livelihoods tomorrow. drivers from uber and lyft will stage a series of events to address critical issues impacting their work. the events will go from uber headquarters to lyft headquarters, both of which are in san francisco. some of the issues they plan to address are low pay, unfair deactivations, high company fees, safety risks and declining earnings. drivers will also raise concerns, they say, over autonomous vehicle impacts to the industry. >> and this week, santa clara county nurses are planning to go on strike. the three day strike

is set to begin on tuesday. the nurses say they want better pay patient safety and an increase in staffing levels. the county hosted a news conference to respond to the charges. the county says it will do its best to minimize disruptions to health care services during the strike. >> new at 11 san jose police were on the scene oa deadly crash and officials were forced to close off parts of saratoga avenue to investigate thera happened just a few hours ago near the harbor park football juries in pronounced dead on scene southbound saratoga avenue is now reopened, northbound saratoga will remainlosed while officers investigate. officials say they' adving the public to continue avoiding that area and to use alternate routes. >> new tonight heartbroken and upset, a shop owner in oakland is speaking out after her business was broken into. it was all caught on camera and now she is facing thousands of dollars in lost merchandise and damage. ktvu zac sos joins us now live

in oakland. and zach, how is the owner dealing with all of this? >> well, julie, she's really still trying to just process everything from a business standpoint emotionally as well. we're talking about thousands of dollars of handmade items stolen, many of which she says she just absolutely designed herself. she says she was on her way to an easter morning church service when her phone rang and she found out her store had been turned upside down. >> and this is just so disappointing. i can't believe this is happening to us. >> taylor j filming the moment she arrived at her downtown oakland clothing store easter sunday to shattered glass strewn across the floor. >> and this was empty. >> he emptied that shelf. he emptied that shelf. and then i went and looked on the camera, captured at around 530 in the morning, casually helping himself to thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at the taylor j. >> collection, purses, dresses, and other items, many of which were hand designed by the owner. >> i just felt violated. it was

just traumatic. like it's already been really hard just being a business owner in oakland, having like physical locations. and so just knowing that someone came into a space that we pay for, that we put all our energy or time and money and life into. it just felt terrible watching in tears at the time. >> what the thief did next, only adding salt to the wound after looting the store, the man coming back for seconds, he took two of the suitcases and filled them up with inventory too, and stole our stuff with our own suitcases. the burglar also taking off with the store's computer system. taylor now facing what she estimates to be at least $20,000 in damage and stolen items. >> it's terrible. this is already a really emotional day for me. for one, my nephew died a year ago, and the last time we were with him was on easter sunday. so my family, it's already a, you know, very like emotional day. and then we were going to church and then this happens. >> taylor's store, just the latest to be targeted on her broadway block. two different bakeries also boarded up her message to city leadership.

>> my message is to help us out, stop this. like if you want our city to grow, to thrive and not die, you have to take it serious that businesses we are, we build, we create, the community. we are keeping the economy going . and if we are suffering and we can't survive, what happens to our city? >> now, something positive to come out of all of this, taylor says she's been overwhelmed by the support she's been seeing from the community, from her customers. a fundraiser has been set up to help her cover the cost of the stolen items, the damages to her store. we posted a link to that fundraiser on ktvu.com. julie. >> yeah, so many people can relate to what's happening in oakland. zach thank you. new at 11 tonight, oakland mayor shengtao plans to pursue a change to the city's charter that would bar the police commission from taking part in the next search for a police chief. taos says the job should be left to the mayor and the city administrator. under oakland's charter, the mayor selects the chief from a list provided by the police

commission. but tao says she has criticized the process as not being the most effective. tao named floyd mitchell as oakland's new police chief last week. he previously served as police chief of lubbock, texas, a bay area school district that's seen a string of violent incidents on campus will not have a school resource officer in time for the next school year, santa rosa mayor natalie rogers tells the press democrat. >> there are still several unanswered questions, including who will fund the program and how long it will last. she said that the committee that oversees the resource officer pilot program plans to apply for grants, though the plans for funding is still unclear. santa rosa city schools say the district and the city are in continued talks about the pilot program. >> the powerball jackpot keeps climbing to a record high amount, and no one has been lucky enough to secure the big win. the numbers from last night's drawing were 12, 13, 33, 50, 52 and the powerball was 23. ktvu lamonica peters spoke with

some players who are hoping to hit it big in tomorrow night's drawing. >> it's probably the first time i've actually bought one. why not? my luck isn't all that that lucky. >> sometimes with nearly $1 billion powerball jackpot on the line, people who say they've never purchased lottery tickets before are now taking their chances. >> one player at the 7-eleven store on kooser road in san jose says she's able to play now because she just turned 18. >> it's exciting. it's different. i haven't i've never done something like that before. so it was it's kind of fun. >> monday's powerball will be worth an estimated $975 million. this is powerball fifth largest jackpot and the last jackpot winner was in michigan on january 1st. ernie's liquor store in east san jose had a big winner back in 2018, and this sunday people bought scratcher card games, lottery tickets and dreamed of what they'll do with

until tuesday to tell anyone. monday is april fool's day, and they may think you are playing a prank on them. la monica peters ktvu, fox two news. >> the city of oakland is planning to offer the a's a five year lease extension at the coliseum for $97 million. the deal would give the a's a temporary home until construction of its new stadium in las vegas is complete. espn reporting that the two sides plan to meet on tuesday to talk about the contract, which includes an opt out after three years. the a's currently said the coliseum expires at the end of this season. >> snow has fallen in colorado at record levels in tonight's west coast rap. how one ski resort was able to mark an historic season, then a proposed sea level rise project in the north bay. >> getting more criticism why residents say a new approach is needed. >> one day this upcoming week, we have 75 degrees. another day we have barely 60 degrees and cold rain showers. we'll lay out

sierra is making for some longer ski seasons. >> the story begins tonight's west coast rap the resort announced today it will remain open for an extra week, with the new closing date being april 21st. this marks the resort's longest ever ski season in its

62 year history. elder mountain resort opened for the season on november 3rd and was initially scheduled to close april 14th. they made the announcement to their instagram. their season total of snow has been 232in so far. >> in washington, mount rainier national park is introducing a new timed entry system for the summer, and it starts tomorrow. the national park service says mount rainier has experienced about a 40% increase in visitation over the last ten years, and that has led to overcrowding during the summer. the introduction of this reservation system will help regulate the amount of visitors a reservation will be needed for two areas of the park the paradise and sunrise corridors. other parks that have implemented the timed entry system are yosemite, arches, glacier and rocky mountain national parks in southern california. >> the los angeles county department of public health says residents should avoid all l.a. county beaches because of high bacteria levels, as a result of the recent rainstorms, the

engine plane crashed on union pacific rail property south of glenshire drive, between the rail line and truckee river. the ntsb, asking anyone with surveillance video to contact them as they try to figure out what happened. the couple leaves behind three sons. >> such an inspiring guy. ali missing personally as i hope he rest in peace. i hope the family will be good. our heart is with them. >> turning now to our weather, the uc berkeley snow lab said today it saw a foot and a half of new snow over the last couple of days. nine inches of that. just yesterday. the lab is at almost 6900ft. this is video from earlier this month. the snow there is at 107% of normal when it comes to the water content in the snow. let's go to our meteorologist, roberta gonzalez, now with an update on our workweek forecast. roberta and julie, how about this? >> more snow and rain in the tahoe forecast beginning on

thursday. all the way through tuesday, and we had a smattering of rain today. a whole potpourri of different weather conditions in and around our microclimates, topping off a 59 in pacifica. and it was quite breezy there today, so it felt a little raw. and it was 69 degrees in san jose. otherwise temperatures were settling into the low and mid 60s plus the rain. it has now pulled out of the tracy area, digging down i-5, passing newman on its way to pacheco pass. this cluster of activity does contain some cloud to ground lightning strikes as well, and we picked up a little bit of a smattering of rain showers around the central bay right there and around the peninsula. all this is drying out now with the northeast flow kicking in for your monday. now we will see the clear skies for monday. then you see the clouds begin to develop for your tuesday with some condensation in the form of drizzle right off the immediate seashore. however, while we will have a couple of

nice dry days, look what's up stream now a brand new area of low pressure that promises to bring us some rain showers by thursday into friday. so don't put that umbrella away as of yet. but meanwhile, tonight it will be a little bit colder than it was 24 hours ago, due to the clearing of the skies. meanwhile, tomorrow's daytime highs will be warmer than what it was today. bank in between 63 in pacifica backing through moss beach into right around the el granada area. how about low 70s and hayward into castro valley 72 and concord, clayton and walnut creek? all the way into alamo and high 60s and mountain view outside number tomorrow will be 73 degrees. the warmest day of the workweek will be on tuesday, turning partly cloudy on wednesday. that's your transition day. then notice the bottom falls out on the temperatures by thursday with cold showers returning right here to the bay area. that's going to be a shock to the system and what is on friday. it is the giants home opener and rain. >> you're saying rain for the

game. >> we're talking about rain showers in the morning, hours through the afternoon and then tapering off. but it's a few days off. still things could change because it looks like another cut off low, which has a mind of its own. so we'll be watching it. >> like with the weather. a little roller coaster i know right? >> do you put the jacket away or do you put it on to it? >> it looks like okay. thank you, thank you. >> new at 11, marin city and tamalpais valley residents are calling for changes to a caltrans flood reduction project. the project would address long terme sea level rise and flooding along highways one and 101. caltrans wants to raise the highway 10 to 14ft. the marin independent journal reports. residents expressed concern at a public forum on thursday, saying they don't believe the city has adequate drain systems or infrastructure for this. they also say the project will trigger environmental and health risks with pollution in the environmental stage. is scheduled for this winter or for the winter. rather, once funding is secured. here's a look at the stories trending tonight on

new at 11 tonight, with the bay area's rainy season nearing an end, allergy season is up next allergists say rain typically washes pollen away, so when it stops, more people call their doctor with allergy symptoms. those include itchy and watery eyes, a stuffy or runny nose, sneezing and congestion. the american academy of allergy, asthma and immunology says allergies affect between 10 and 30% of the global population in a little over a week, parts of the country will be able to see a full solar eclipse. >> and while we may not be able to see the total eclipse here in

the bay area, it could affect us in different ways. the faa says the total solar eclipse on april 8th will result in some delays for travelers. there is potential for bigger impacts on airports in states in the path of the eclipse, including texas, oklahoma, arkansas, missouri, illinois, indiana, ohio, pennsylvania, vermont and maine. the agency says pilots and airlines should be prepared to possibly hold more often, circle more before landing, reroute and take off later than planned. well, despite a loss in their inaugural home opener, bay fc saw a sellout crowd of 18,000 people packed into paypal park in san jose on and off the field, the club is having an impact on the community, showing the sport's rise in popularity. >> ktvu bailey o'carroll got a look behind the scenes and the group of women leading the club's front office in san francisco. >> jen malay, jessica jackson, lisa goodwin schaff, brady stewart and danielle slaton make

up bay fc. s all female executive team and c-suite. >> there's times when i kind of sort of can't believe we've come as far as we've come. >> the people that are in these roles are the right people. they are women, but they are definitely the right people to be in them. >> the five women all come from different backgrounds, both personally and professionally, but they share a common goal. >> the ultimate goal is one to be a global brand. we believe it's possible, and that is really the north star that sort of driving us as an organization. >> the opportunity to hopefully turn that vision into a reality here in the bay area, surrounded by supportive women and men, is not lost on them. >> i think the thing that stands out to me most is that, i can really just be my authentic self and not that i couldn't before, but for some reason there's just like a freedom to it, of not feeling like you're the only one, like the only person of color, the only woman in the room. and to not have to really kind of have that baggage, is lovely.

game against the san diego padres yesterday, one family got the chance to meet giants outfielder zhang li. >> the giants posted this to facebook. the boy had caught lee's home run ball. can you believe it? and said that he would return the ball in exchange for the ability to meet him. now this family is originally from the bay area, but right now they live in san diego. they've since become padres fans. they say their favorite padre is ha-seong kim, and when they shared that with lee, with the help of his interpreter, lee said that he was planning to meet with kim for dinner that night. he also said that he would tell him about their meeting with the family. wow, that's really incredible. it was young lee's first home run of the season. his family was in attendance. what a story for that little boy. and i'm so excited that he got to be able to meet kim and you know, hopefully or excuse me, lee, and hopefully kim may reach out soon. >> oh, that's such a great story. hopefully it does. what a fun thing. all right. that is
