about this proposal for the oakland airport, and our concern is really that it's misleading. >> renaming debate the concerns about the change. the port of oakland wants to make to that city's airport. >> this is ktvu you fox two news at 730. >> and the plan to rename the oakland international airport is not sitting well with a lot of people, including rival sfo. thanks so much for joining me on this monday night. i'm heather holmes. airport officials and lawmakers taking sides in this naming fight. when you take a look at this tonight from aaron peskin, he's the president of the san francisco board of supervisors. and he said on x that the board will vote tomorrow to oppose the change, adding, quote, imitation is the highest form of flattery. but this isn't neighborly. our crystal bailey has more now on this brewing battle. crystal. >> well, sfo officials are going on the record to say if you include the words san francisco in the name, you confuse

travelers. they also say there are other ways to improve name recognition and business at the oakland airport. and you can see by those comments from state senator scott wiener and supervisor peskin that they're not alone. oakland international airport might be renamed san francisco bay. oakland international airport, the port of oakland, saying it will attract more business to the airport because people don't realize the oakland airport is a convenient option. but sfo officials oppose the name change. >> i can certainly understand the interest in growing business, but we don't think putting san francisco at the front end of an airport in oakland is the way to do it. >> oakland is the name of the city, and just because people don't know the name of the city doesn't mean you should change the name of the airport. >> sfo says the name would be misleading and could cause confusion for their travelers who don't know the bay area well, we would hate to see a situation where a traveler books thinking that they're going to one location and then only when they land do they realize that

they're somewhere else that they hadn't intended to go to. but there are nearly 20 organizations and city leaders who think it will help oakland. >> anytime that i'm flying to houston, there are more airport options. same thing with washington dc, same thing with new york. so any traveler with us living in an internet world, if you do just a tiny bit of research, you can figure out that it's two separate airports in a joint statement from the port of oakland and the airport, they acknowledged there will be differing opinions, but this could help boost oakland's economy. >> this name modification is about oakland. it's about bringing inbound travelers to oakland. our proposal is pro oakland and pro jobs. >> they also say the airport is located on the san francisco bay , and want travelers to know they can get to top bay area destinations from the oakland airport. supporters say the name change will serve the entire east bay, which is often overlooked. >> what we find is that a lot of

visitors that don't live in california don't know about the oakland airport, or even realize how close we are to the oakland airport. >> the port commission will hear public comments on the name change and vote at a meeting on april 11th, and sfo says they are looking at all possible legal actions they can take and collaborating with other groups who also oppose that name change to persuade the board, not to go through with that change. now, the airport code, okay will remain the same regardless. heather. >> all right. crystal thank you again. we'll be following that. san francisco board of supervisors meeting tomorrow. okay. new at 730 tonight. people can start submitting applications starting tomorrow for a brand new affordable housing project for san francisco public school educators and employees. the 135 unit development is near 43rd and judah in the outer sunset, and it's named after shirley chisholm, an advocate for public education. in the very first black woman elected to congress. the property will offer 24 studios, 43 one bedroom, 58 two

bedroom and nine three bedroom apartments. this is the first housing project built by the city for san francisco unified educators and employees. applications will be accepted through tuesday, april 23rd. san francisco mayor london breed, releasing a statement on the project, saying, quote, our public schools are stronger when educators can live near the community they serve our first affordable educator housing project will create that opportunity. this is part of our work to make sf a place working people can afford to live. well. developers planning to build the california forever community in solano county secured a big legal win. a u.s. district judge ruling that the lawsuit that was filed by flannery associates against landowners in solano county for alleged price fixing can move forward now. flannery associates, which has brought more than 50,000 acres in the county for that sustainable community. they claim that landowners colluded on land

prices. attorneys for 20 landowners deny that accusation and had urged the judge to dismiss the case. but as i mentioned, it will now move forward. a trial date has yet to be set. well, a man in a wheelchair was taken to the hospital today after he fell in front of a bart train and was hit. crews with the berkeley fire department responded to the north berkeley station, where the man went off the platform and onto the tracks. as the richmond train was approaching, he was removed from the area and was alive. riders describe that scene. >> the person had let us know on the speaker that the station is shut down. we were all confused, so we're all walking upstairs, but we see that there's people looking in the tracks and we hear a dude, like yelling at someone and letting them know that someone got hit by the train. and so we went to the front of the train and all we see is a wheelchair. >> now, the victim's caretaker says the man was seriously hurt. service on that richmond line

was suspended for nearly an hour following that incident. ac transit provided service during that time and one person was injured in a fire at a restaurant in san francisco's lower haight neighborhood. crews were called to the indian oven restaurant there at last in fillmore around 11 this morning. it appears a kitchen flue caught fire. that restaurant has now temporarily closed. all right. the tech community paying tribute to a husband and wife, were right here in the bay area, killed in that plane crash over the weekend. and the couple's aircraft went down saturday night in truckee as a storm was blowing through the area in ktvu, joey huerta spoke with several friends of the couple. >> federal investigators are working to determine the cause of a deadly plane crash in truckee on saturday night, where wreckage can be seen scattered along the railroad tracks. >> it's so sad. life is so fragile. >> friends and colleagues identify the israeli husband and wife as 57 year-old lee run and 58 year-old naomi petrushka. >> it just you know, hard to

roberta. but things are going to change soon. >> temperatures today topped off a good ten degrees above average in many of our neighborhoods, particularly in the north bay. take a look at those temperatures. yes, 77 degrees in san rafael, also in larkspur. backing through all the way to marin city and to santa rosa.

guerneville sebastopol. how about 74 degrees in concord and vallejo? benicia martinez, 73, in redwood shores and also in san jose. live weather camera looking out towards san francisco where the visibility is unlimited. and that's what our satellite imagery is alluding to at this hour. but check it out upstream. this is a trough and it has an associated cold front, so we know for sure some cooler air is coming this way. and then this area of low pressure will this time it out together. looks like we'll begin to see the enhancement of the fog bank by tomorrow morning along the sea shore, saturating the central bay as well. then we become mostly cloudy on our wednesday. the temperatures drop a good ten degrees. and then here comes the rain by our thursday. and when the rain does filter into the bay area, it's going to continue on again, off again, all the way through your friday. right now we are calling for cloudy skies for the home opener of the giants on friday. it's a day game. you could see a

lingering shower, but the bottom line is it turns cooler, it turns windy and tonight, mostly clear skies. temperatures into the 40s, 42 degrees in throughout the tri valley. how about 48? in san mateo through burlingame into belmont tomorrow, one more beautiful springtime day with temperatures even going up a couple of degrees. we're talking about flirting with 80 degrees across san jose, through cupertino, into campbell, and into willow glen, as well as those skaters. there you have it. the warmest day of the workweek on tuesday, a transition day on wednesday, showers and breezy conditions on thursday, and look at these overnight temperatures into our inland area. so a little shot of winter returns. >> indeed, it does, roberta. thank you. well, emergency crews in monterey county ushered a convoy of drivers to safety this afternoon after heavy rains caused a portion of highway one to collapse. this was near big sur over the weekend. the

crumbling section of road is about half a mile from bixby bridge, and it's created a logistical nightmare for caltrans and for residents. as many as 2000 people were stranded over the weekend. now, only residents and essential workers are allowed through. >> you never know, it's raining on thursday, so they might just say it's too dangerous and boom! so i got my tea, my milk, and i'm set up. >> caltrans crews have a plan for a temporary fix in place, which involves expanding the shoulder and placing about 500ft of concrete barriers along the center line of the roadway. no word yet, though, on how long a more permanent fix might take, or how long this inconvenience to drivers might last. well, the family of a san jose teacher who died in a car crash last year, now kicking off an auction tomorrow to raise money for a scholarship in her name. virginia wright, also known as sp gina, used sneakers as a way to connect with her students, and now her more than 200 pairs

of shoes that she collected over the years will be up for auction. the auction goes live tomorrow on charitybuzz .com. all the proceeds will go to a san jose state university scholarship fund in honor of sp gina, a woman in the east bay looking for her car. we'll take a closer look at how a thief was able to take off with her ride. plus our attorney believes that the airing of the documentary could assist our case. that documentary is set to come out soon, and it focuses on the search for the remains of alexis gabe of oakley, why her family believes this film could help uncover more evidence. and a groundbreaking nightclub in san francisco is delaying its closing date. the support it's received from the community as it repares s

macarthur, just a few blocks from northeastern university in oakland. a man is seen driving up in a light colored acura integra. you see the person there before stopping outside of a home. he then gets out, walks up to a red honda del sol, and then takes off. the owner of that honda is a 72 year old woman whose daughter tells ktvu her mom has lived in oakland for more than 50 years and has never seen things this bad. no arrests have been reported and a new documentary is coming out. this month about the killing of 24 year old alexis gabe ktvu. tori gaines spoke with alexis father about what he hopes this documentary will reveal about his daughter's death. >> gwen gabe has been living a parent's nightmare for two years. >> it's hard. it's like being stabbed. >> a new documentary airing this month will document his family's search for his daughter, alexis gabe. gabe was initially reported missing in 2022. hundreds of community members

across the bay area assisted in the search for her. the case caught national attention when her ex-boyfriend and suspected killer died in a shooting with police in washington state, after more than a year of searching. some of gabe's remains were found near plymouth and given over to the family in november of 2023. but the contra costa county district attorney says the investigation into her death remains open. earlier this year, the city of oakland dedicated this bench here in civic center park to alexis gabe's memory. her family says it's a place where they can come to remember her, but the journey isn't over. for the gabe family, their grief will last forever, but they also face an uncertain legal battle. the da previously said she would consider bringing charges against alicia coleman clark, the mother of gabe suspected killer if gabe's remains were found. >> we have come across evidence of aiding and abetting while reviewing the footage with antioch pd, and we are hoping

that everything will be revealed in the documentary. gabe says he hopes the documentary will bring more clues out of the woodwork and bring about justice for his daughter. >> he says his family has struggled to see coleman clark face no consequences. as their family navigates their grief, they have faced some back and forth with discovery plus, the network airing the documentary, which considered holding the episode until next season. community members reached out in droves demanding to see the episode sooner, and the network changed course. >> our attorney believes that the airing of the documentary could assist our case, and which is why it is crucial for the network to broadcast it. >> for now, the family has been told the episode, titled where is alexis gabe, will air on april 24th. >> we just want everyone to see what we saw and, you know, let us know, you know, if we're

wrong or not. >> in oakley, tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news. >> rideshare drivers demonstrated in san francisco today demanding fair treatment and better pay. drivers from uber and lyft staged rallies outside both uber and lyft headquarters in the city. they say they're being impacted by low pay and high company fees. they also say they're having trouble accessing health care stipends under state law. now we reached out to the companies. lyft said it has rolled out several new driver features, including increased pay transparency to ensure drivers always make at least 70% of their weekly fares. uber told us they have made, quote, significant improvements as part of their commitment to make uber the safest and fairest platform. a winery in the south bay planning a major development. what it hopes to construct that it says would make it a premier entertainment destination. and then later tonight on the 10:00 news, san francisco police say two teenagers under arrest in a

in a winery in saratoga, announced they plan they have filed preliminary plans for a long envisioned village concept. now, the plans include building an 81 room hotel and 255 units of housing. mountain winery says this plan fulfills a long te vision to elevate the winery as a premier entertainment destination for the south bay. right now, mountain mountain winery host wine tastings and concerts at its amphitheaters. its owners say they will meet with neighbors and stakeholders as the development moves forward. well, a major security breach for millions of at&t customers. the company says it has evidence that hackers gained access to more than 73 million current and former at&t accounts for more insight. earlier today on the four, i spoke with vivek bhandari, vice president of product marketing at tanium, based in emeryville. >> there's just so much complexity to the digital environment, and a lot of these organizations struggle with real time visibility and control of their it environment, and then
