plant in fremont. >> protesters today taking their message to the streets. hello again, everyone. >> i'm julie hanan and i'm mike mibach. tonight, police in fremont had to put on the tactical gear. for several demonstrators trying to pull down a fence near the entrance of that tesla plant, police responded with non-lethal weapons and demonstrators pulled back. this protest actually continued about another 90 minutes or so before everyone dispersed on their own. this was all part of a wider effort to disrupt the nation's global economy. today, organizers say they picked tesla specifically tonight due to elon musk decision to invite israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to the plant last year. >> the main reason was inviting netanyahu out here to tesla and what's going on with the war, and everybody should stop. this is a day for protesting. this is a day that everybody should stop what they're doing and protest for palestine. >> the protest caused a

temporary backup of supply trucks trying to enter the tesla plant along kato road. that roadway has since reopened, and no word yet on any arrests. >> protesters also caused major traffic backups on interstate 880 in oakland this morning. the demonstration took over the northbound lanes at fifth and embarcadero around 615 this morning. dozens of chp officers in riot gear watching as the protesters waved flags and painted the colors of palestine on the center median of the highway, officers said. protesters attached themselves to 55 gallon drums filled with concrete, which made it difficult to remove them from the roadway. the chp says seven people were arrested on 880 northbound. all lanes of 880 reopened by 115 this afternoon, and protesters also gathered at the southbound entrance to the nimitz freeway at seventh street so they could get up onto the freeway itself. some of the demonstrators used their bikes and their own bodies to keep the on ramp closed. as a result,

port officials say all container terminals were forced to close, shutting down operations at the port for the entire day. protesters say that was the ultimate goal. >> i can't speak for what the further actions are going to be, but i know that the fight for palestinian liberation is into liberation and reclamation. we will not stop until the palestinians have gotten all their land back from the river to the sea. >> the chp says. five protesters were arrested at this location, and the golden gate bridge also targeted by demonstrators today. >> they chained themselves together through a number of vehicles, causing traffic to shut down in both directions of 101 for nearly five hours. as ktvu is amber lee reports tonight, more than two dozen demonstrators are now facing possible felony charges. >> the california highway patrol says 26 protesters were arrested for a demonstration that shut down traffic on the golden gate bridge in both directions. for hours, they had chained themselves to vehicles and refused to move. they were taken

to san francisco county jail. an activist who is a spokesperson for the demonstrators on the bridge says none of those arrested have been released, so the fact that they're being held overnight is kind of concerning, and we're just waiting to hear what might happen and hoping they get released soon. the chp says. the protesters were arrested on multiple charges, including two felonies conspiracy to commit a crime and false imprisonment. >> and you can protest any which way you want, but it is unlawful to block a roadway and to prevent people from getting to work. emergency, personnel from getting to help people. >> demonstrators say they had deliberately planned the protest here in the bay area to coincide with others across the country for april 15th, tax day. they say they want the spotlight to remain on the situation in gaza and stop u.s. aid to israel. >> coordinated global effort. we are saying that enough of our tax dollars from the united states, one of the largest, the

largest ally of israel, we don't want our money going to israel anymore. >> law enforcement says it had been tracking chatter that something could happen on april 15th. >> there was a decent amount of intelligence about this day, but these specific protest, you know, we did not have specific intelligence related to it. >> one commuter says protesters stopping traffic could alienate even those sympathetic to their cause. >> it's a complicated situation, i know that, but to, you know, to hold up people who are genuinely trying to get to work doesn't help anybody. >> i am sorry for that inconvenience, but it is a privilege to experience that minor of an inconvenience compared to what palestinians experience every day at the hands of our government. >> it's now up to the san francisco district attorney's office to decide the charges against the protesters. a spokesman for the da says she still needs to review the information. amber lee, ktvu, fox two news, the american jewish committee of san francisco reacted to today's

demonstrations, saying in part it condemns in the strongest possible terms the selfish and misguided demonstrations. >> bay area agitators would do better to direct their anger at hamas, who launched this war and continue to reject ceasefire agreements today. protests in the bay area were all part of a worldwide call to action. similar protests took place in many us cities, including chicago, new york, seattle, oregon and miami, calling for a cease fire in gaza. the nationwide protests come amid escalating tensions in the middle east over iran's unprecedented attacks on israel. over the weekend, both israel and iran have threatened to continue military action, ramping up political pressure. ktvu jana katsuyama tells us why the u.s. is now stuck in a precarious position. >> mounting frustration on display over the u.s. not doing more to stop mass civilian casualties and the shortage of humanitarian aid. >> the sizable majority of americans, according to polls, believe that us military aid to

israel should be conditional on human rights. >> president biden's recent criticism of israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's war on hamas and demand for humanitarian aid in gaza now comes with new complications. iran's weekend airstrikes on israel forced the u.s. and other countries to assist with israel's defense. >> the u.s. is walking a very fine line. on one hand, the u.s. is not pleased with israel's activities in gaza, but defense of israel. the united states has committed itself to it historically for a long time, san francisco state history professor maziar behrouz says iran's hardline rulers made a very significant change in policy by issuing a direct attack saturday on israel. iran up to this point has been following a doctrine known as strategic patience with israel, harassing israel with allies around the country, but not directly getting involved.

>> iran says it acted in retaliation for israel's attack on iran's consulate in damascus, syria. today, they said if israel attacks the iranian mainland, they will attack not in a few days, but in few seconds. on monday, israel promised a counterattack. >> iran will face the consequences for its actions. >> the u.s, uk and other countries, however, are urging restraint. >> this attack failed because it was defeated by israel, by the united states and by a coalition of other partners committed to israel's defense. the president urged the prime minister to think about what that success says all by itself. to the rest of the region. >> we are working urgently with our allies to de-escalate the situation and and you're streaming devices. >> you can find around the cloc.

>> new at 11 a robbery suspect was arrested after leading police officers on a chase in the east bay. police say the pursuit began in richmond yesterday afternoon and then ended in martinez, where the car crashed into another vehicle in the area of highway four and pine street. police say the suspect and the other people in the car tried to run, but were later detained. during a search, the driver was arrested on suspicion of evading police firearm possession and outstanding warrants. >> police in redwood city are looking for a thief who stole several packages from a home, including one containing a wedding dress. officers say last thursday, a man went to a home near adams and madison, a block west of highway 82, and stole packages before walking away. the homeowner tells police one of the packages included a wedding dress worth about $2,000. if you have any information on the man's identity or his whereabouts, you're asked to call redwood city police. >> the federal women's prison in dublin is shutting down. officials say it's not meeting expected standards. the prison

has been at the center of several sex abuse scandals and was raided by the fbi last month , and now the prison is closing in all, 600 women are being transferred to other facilities. attorneys representing the inmates criticized the government for this last minute announcement that the fact that they would take that approach at this last second without any kind of warning, is shameful, frankly. a federal judge directed a newly appointed official in charge of the prison to make sure inmates are properly transferred to other prisons, halfway houses, home confinement, or given compassionate release. >> in tonight's west coast rap hikers at lake mead sparking outrage the irreversible damage they caused to federally protected land. plus she's a miracle. >> she just really is a mother able to finally take her baby home after she spent six months receiving extensive care. >> how she was able to beat the odds after weighing just 12oz at

a construction construction worker, died after getting trapped underneath a forklift that toppled over at a construction site. >> and this story does begin tonight's west coast wrap. the

incident happened in a bel air neighborhood this afternoon. the los angeles fire department says the forklift had been carrying steel rebar at the site. the worker was pronounced dead at the scene. no one else was injured. cal osha is now investigating the incident in nevada. >> two men were caught on camera destroying ancient rock formations at lake mead national recreation area. want to show you some video posted to social media showing two men pushing chunks of rock off redstone dunes trail. it is one of the most popular hiking spots in the park. park rangers are now seeking the public's help to help identify those men. officials say the damage is irreversible. those formations were shaped over time. out of 140 million year old sand dunes and are federally protected and in the state of arizona, ticket prices to the arizona coyotes final home game on wednesday night are spiking into the hundreds of dollars amid rumors the team is moving. >> the nhl executive committee has approved the move to salt lake city. the decision will now

see how small she was. >> paris sweeney, austin was five months pregnant when sarah was born. >> sarah means holy and sacred, and japanese at 23 weeks and two days because of an infection, paris was induced to save both mom and baby sarah is the earliest and tiniest baby to arrive at sutter's alta bates in berkeley. >> her care team says it was challenging to give the micro-preemie nutrition because her veins were too small for an iv, her throat too small for a standard tube. >> even her diaper, the smallest diaper we have was too big for her. >> sarah spent six months in the hospital. doctors say the odds were not in her favor, but now she's weighing nearly 10 pounds. >> sarah is breathing on her own. she is very active and she's drinking all her food with her bottle, with her mom and it's just that's what makes this so incredible. >> she's a miracle. she just really is. >> and as nurses packed her things and prepared paris for

one of the few that still functioned. officials say the anniversary also serves as an important reminder that we should all remain prepared for a major quake. >> berkeley voters will elect a new city council member tomorrow . uc berkeley students cecilia luna parham and james chang are facing off in a special election for district seven, which includes the cal campus. the election is to fill the seat left vacant by rigel robinson, who abruptly resigned in january citing harassment and threats from members of the public. in-person voting hours have been extended tomorrow from seven in the morning to eight in the evening at the ywca on bancroft court. >> checking in on the weather real quick. we've got temperatures today, started off cool and ended up nice. warmer than yesterday, but a little below the average, certainly. but tomorrow we warm further. these were the highs from today. highs tomorrow add 5 or 6 degrees to these numbers and you'll get your temperature. so let's let's a mid and low 70s tomorrow maybe a couple upper 70s. and that's kind of how this whole week goes. we're going to

have some clouds coming in and out. it doesn't get real hot. we're going to be dealing with 50s low 60s, coast 60s around the bay, 70s to upper 70s inland. and then if you go far in like sacramento, probably pop in 80, it's because of this high pressure. it's also allowing the fog to reform off the coast. we should see it back tonight in some iteration. we'll see how it looks. this morning it was everywhere. tomorrow morning it's going to be clear when you wake up. most likely most of us will be clear when you wake up and be more sunshine and temperatures consequently will be warmer than they were today. it's that simple. the winds are kind of light right now out of the northwest as i was going to point out with that, as this high pressure, the way it sets up and this time of year, the pacific high creates a northwest wind which blows the sea surface temperatures in one direction. and creates upwelling, which makes this cooler water come to the surface. the cooler water allows more fog formation. it's a feedback loop, and that's beginning and has been going on for a few weeks now. but it will continue. and that's summer in the bay area, even though we're

cameron brink, drafted by the la sparks and as ktvu lamonica peters reports, fans across the bay area are celebrating the women's game at the patio in palo alto. >> monday night's highly anticipated wnba draft was everything fans say they wanted to see the draft like, sold out in like a day to actually attend in person. >> so it's just super exciting to, like, see the numbers, follow the energy we've been feeling. iowa's caitlin clark was the number one pick in the draft after a record breaking season, becoming the highest scoring college basketball player amongst women and men. >> it's exciting to see a lot of women's athletes in the news. >> i think i watched more women's basketball this year than men's. i was excited to see caitlin cameron and angel reese. it was really cool. >> with clark heading to the indiana fever, number two overall pick cameron brink will take her talents to the los angeles sparks after having an outstanding college basketball career at stanford. fun fact

in alameda that it won't be so loud this year. the city of alameda called for the festival to end last year, after residents complained about the noise. festival organizers sent a letter to alameda residents promising all outdoor music will end by 1045 in the evening and that organizers will place close attention to audio levels. this event is scheduled for september 28th and 29th at pier 80. >> a new program brought music composition to sonoma county jail. this video shows an inmate

listening to music he wrote, being played by a string quartet across the country. in new york, 11 men took part in the ten week program. at four, we spoke with organizers who say learning to write and read music unlocks a new world for the inmates. >> you can see in their faces that it gave them hope. it gave them something to look for. it gives them something to look forward to that they hear what they wrote and it's their stories. it was so impactful. >> the class is offered through the nonprofit called project music heals us. sonoma county jail officials say they're hoping to offer the program to female inmates next year. >> new at 11 today, the warriors pay tribute to former assistant coach dejan milojevic. it's been nearly three months since milojevic died from a heart attack during a team dinner in salt lake city. it was his third season on the warriors coaching staff and today on what would have been his 47th birthday, members of the team and coaching staff shared their memories of him on social media. >> we think about deki every day
