tickets to avoid long lines at the festival's website. well artists from portugal who first became well known by drawing daily pictures of quarterback jimmy garoppolo, is now being praised for her latest work for the 49ers. her name is rita oak. she created several illustrations for this week's 49ers schedule release. she says, coming up with all the concepts and the ideas was fun. she drew all of these illustrations in just two weeks. >> i'm really, really happy to be working with them. it was a great opportunity and a great honor. so yeah, it was it was super fun. just working with creative people. i guess. creative minds think alike and because of the time difference between here and portugal, miss oak said she was sleeping when the 49ers released their schedule, accompanied by her photos and special effects. >> she woke up to receive tons

the traffic is also moving along. okay. on that san mateo bridge after they got rid of a bunch of slow traffic eastbound because of an earlier issue that's been taken care of. silicon valley commute. right now, it looks like everything's a lot lighter. we don't have a lot of slowing yet. we're just going to leave that alone. 702 let's go back to the headlines now. >> thank you. well, last night, 12 protesters were arrested near the uc berkeley campus. >> they're accused of being part of a of a pro gaza group that took over a vacant building owned by uc berkeley, now ktvu. >> sally rasmus is in studio now to tell us that 20 different law enforcement agencies were brought in to remove those demonstrators. >> yes. a large police presence at that site last night, uc berkeley brought in police from as far away as fairfield and foster city to help them clear an ahead hall on channing way. that's in berkeley, near people's park. palestine police and riot gear formed a line around the building, and university workers then went in

to start clearing away the trash and belongings of the protesters inside that building, there was graffiti scrawled on some of the walls. there were no fights or reports of injuries, but 12 people were arrested. the protesters started occupying the uc berkeley owned building earlier this week as it was cleared out, the group chanted support for palestine in the war in gaza. >> free, free, free, free palestine. >> now, the university confirms this group is different from the protesters who set up an encampment near sproul hall a few weeks ago. that encampment was dismantled after a deal was reached with administrators, but the demonstrators at the anna head hall site said they would only provide information about their demands on their instagram page. they would not speak with the media about their cause and what exactly their objectives were in taking over that building. now, uc berkeley says it considers the occupation of head hall a crime, not free speech, and says the 12 people who were arrested will likely be charged on suspicion of

burglary, conspiracy and vandalism. the university says it plans to disclose the names and affiliations of the 12 people arrested. back to you, dave. >> okay, ali. thank you. time 704 classes on campus. we'll be back today at uc irvine after classes were held remotely because of a tense standoff between the police and protesters. the protesters were ordered to leave an encampment after it was declared an unlawful assembly. 47 people were arrested, including students, uci employees and many people not affiliated with the university. >> new. this morning, for the first time, trucks carrying humanitarian aid for palestinians in the gaza strip have rolled across. sapir built by the united states, first in n operation that american military leaders say. meanwhile in washington, house republicans voted to pass a bill to reverse president biden's freeze on sending a shipment of weapons to israel as it plans to invade the southern gaza city of rafah. democrats are calling the bill a

political stunt by republicans, as president biden defies the will of congress with his use of executive privilege. >> he is brazen, doing so by withholding congressionally mandated aid. >> everything it calls for. the administration is already doing. and it is just yet another example of the republicans using israel and anti-semitism for their own political purposes every day. >> senate majority leader chuck schumer says the senate will not take up the legislation. the white house has already said the president will veto the bill if it makes it to his desk. >> our time now is 705. israel defended its military actions in gaza at a hearing with the united nations top court, and an israeli official said they're taking the action to avoid harming civilians as they carry out a military offensive in rafah in the southern gaza area. >> that is why there has not been a large scale assault on rafah, but rather specific, limited and localized operations

prefaced with evacuation efforts and support for humanitarian activities. >> now, the international court of justice is holding a third round of hearings on emergency measures requested by south africa, which wants the court to order a cease fire in gaza. ktvu coverage of the war in gaza, as well as the protests here in the bay area, continues online on our website ktvu.com. >> new this morning, we now have video of the world's number one golfer getting arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer, cell phone video here shows authorities arresting scottie scheffler at the pga championship in louisville, kentucky. espn reports there was a crash near the golf course and that there may have been a misunderstanding as scheffler drove past a police checkpoint to get inside the country club. when he was finally stopped. espn reports he was shoved against a car and handcuffed. authorities released a mugshot of scheffler and listed the charges against him, including

second degree assault against a police officer and reckless driving. scheffler was released and is now back on the course for the second round of that tournament. >> our time now 7.07. happening today a judge in new mexico will consider movie star alec baldwin's request to throw out his involuntary manslaughter charge that's tied to a deadly shooting on a movie set. now, the attorneys for the actor are accusing prosecutors of unethical behavior to get the grand jury indictment that led to his trial. the weapons expert on that movie said, who handed the loaded gun to baldwin, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter back in march. >> the sentencing hearing will be held today for david depape, the man convicted of attacking the husband of congresswoman nancy pelosi with a hammer. federal prosecutors want to. papp sentenced to 40 years in prison for the attack in october of 2022. depape was convicted last november on federal charges for breaking into the pelosi home in san francisco and

attacking paul pelosi. prosecutors say that depape should get the maximum punishment, that he shows no remorse, and even seems to be proud of his actions. >> it is. 708 california attorney general rob bonta ordered an organization in oakland to cease operations. bonta told the group neighbors together oakland that they they they solicited donations despite failing to register as a nonprofit with the state of california. bonta says that organization could be sanctioned if it doesn't obey the order. the group was founded in 2021 by seneca scott, who ran for mayor of oakland in the last election. concord police are looking for the people who tried to force their way inside two businesses within minutes. >> surveillance video here shows two white infinities approaching the businesses monday night. micro measurements and pacific instruments are located on pike lane. the clients include nasa, the military, defense contractors and it's believed the same crew also tried to break into hsd engineering. that company repairs equipment for national labs, aerospace and

semiconductor companies. >> i wish i knew we both happened to be in very highly specified fields and it is a strange coincidence that we both get hit back to back on the same night. >> the thieves rammed one of the cars into the garage door, but couldn't get in because a forklift was parked behind the door. ktvu learned the car was stolen and later recovered by antioch police. nothing was stolen from either business in the attempted break ins. >> it is 709, and today is a day that highway one in big sur will reopen this morning. a stretch of the highway near rocky creek bridge, south of the carmel highlands, had major storm damage at the beginning of april . the part of highway one that's reopening today will have round the clock traffic control. caltrans says a temporary traffic signal will give unrestricted public access with one way alternating traffic north and southbound. >> well, time is 710, and we've

had a pretty decent commute on a friday. sometimes it is a little lighter on a friday. let's go right to highway four. going to start there. and you can see that the commute is a little slow. there goes bart. bart does not have any significant delays reported by bart. you can see that the bay bridge has completely cleared out. we had a little bit of a backup earlier, but now that's better. even that san mateo bridge where we had a problem is better. we haven't seen a lot of slow traffic in san jose or on the peninsula. so if you're driving to sfo, you shouldn't have any issues. 710 let's go back to the desk. okay, sal. >> well, a brutal and unprovoked attack captured on surveillance camera in san francisco with the suspects lawyers say that video does not show about the whole story. >> i feel like there's nothing i can do all the security i put on and the warning signs and. and they don't care. >> people who live in one neighborhood in the oakland hills say brazen thieves are targeting their homes again and

frustrated people in oakland say the same thieves keep breaking into their homes. ktvu is andre senior in the studio with me now to tell us why these crimes are especially disturbing? >> well, dave, there have been three brazen burglaries in the redwood heights neighborhood in just the past six weeks. they've all been taking place in broad daylight, sometimes while neighbors are watching. one crime took place earlier this week on monday afternoon. it was all captured on surveillance camera. it shows two masked burglars running out of a home, one holding a pillowcase. as you see right there, the victim says it was filled with jewelry stolen from her bedroom. >> just bust in my home and take my things like it's no problem. it's terrifying. it's frustrating. >> the people living on reinhardt drive say all three break ins have been between the hours of noon and four. and they say these bold thieves don't seem to care that everyone can

see them breaking into these homes. one neighbor says he screamed at them while they were driving away. >> they were, you know, certainly not put off by somebody seeing them commit a crime. it seems like this was kind of a normal practice for them. >> neighbors say they have taken a photo of the thieves car. you see it right here. it was a black bmw sedan. the people living on the street suspect their home's close proximity to highways 13 and 580 make them an attractive target for thieves. looking for a quick getaway. we reached out to the oakland police department. officers only would confirm that there have been three recent home break ins on that block. garcia. andre. >> thank you. we'll move across the bay now for the newest homeless count in san francisco. it shows mixed results. the city's point in time count shows total homelessness in san francisco. represented here by that dark orange, increased by 7% from 2022 to 2024. now stands that there are more than 8003 8300 people experiencing homelessness in the city. these

numbers, according to researchers. now let's move to the other side. at the same time, city leaders point to the fact the number of people living on the street in tents or in vehicles is actually on the decline. we see that in this graph, the number of people without shelter decreased by 1% since 2022, down 16. if you compare it to 2019 numbers. nearly half of the city's homeless population is currently sheltered. now, the city data point out that youth homelessness has decreased by 9, but the number of families who are homeless has gone up by 94% since 2022 to now, 437 families. the city also found its chronically homeless population increased by 9. more than 2900 people have been identified as being chronically homeless. >> all right, gasia time now. 716 the city of san francisco also says its new homeless outreach program has connected thousands of people to help in its first year. the city says the homeless engagement assistance response team otherwise known as hart for short, has responded to almost

14,000 calls, including 80% of calls to three, one, 1 or 9 one one involving unhoused people and 70% of the calls related to sidewalk and street encampments. right now, the city is sending other calls involving the homeless, including some trash, passing and suspicious persons, to the hart team. >> 717 let's get out the door here early on a friday. typically it's friday light. is that the case now, sal? >> yes, for the most part, they're gasia and dave, we do have friday light out there. i want to show you highway four. we're going to start there and show you the traffic is a little slow. i wouldn't say it's completely sunday morning light, but we're getting close at the bay bridge. let me tell you, there's a little bit of a backup, but not much. and if you're driving on interstate 880, it's congested. heading north past the coliseum, san mateo bridge has recovered after some earlier issues. 718 let's bring steve back in with today's weather.

>> thank you sal. appreciate that. all right. a much bigger fog bank has made it all the way out to sacramento. that's a heck of a push here for mid-may. cool pattern. lots of reports of drizzle as well. and i don't, you know, the may graze in place. and i think june gloom is in our near future as well. tilden park with almost a 10th of an inch in the last 24 hours. bonnie doon davenport and santa rosa, all with some measurable amounts of drizzle. the wind has turned a little more west southwest, well more westerly right here. see this little low, little coastal eddy right there visiting the marin coast point rays. and then that funnels in this right there over through the golden gate, san pablo bay, right out to the street. and there's nothing to stop that low cloud deck. it's up around 2200ft. water temps came down at just a skosh there, from about 54 or 50 5 to 52, 54 and in cold temps, water temps anytime. we talked about this in early april , as long as they stayed cold and we had any kind of onshore breeze, fog was never far away and boy is it ever 50 on the temps a few 40s, but a lot of low 50s. we are running about 2

to 5 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time. 52 popular scotts valley, socal, aptos, santa cruz, morgan hill, san martin, hollister all in there. a little warmer, but mid 50s around saratoga, campbell, also cupertino. low clouds, a lot of gray over the bay and well out and out to the delta as well. and system is going to sweep into the north. that'll keep the breeze going and also keep the theme of some cooler temps. so fog, drizzle, sunny, breezy, but temps not that warm unless you're really far inland. big fog bank, windy and cooler taking us into at least saturday. probably sunday and i would think drizzle as well is not going to be far away tonight and tomorrow again. for many, especially coastal hills, one item of interest would be the mountains starting early next week. thunderstorm activity already popping up, maybe a return visit there for truckee, kirkwood and south lake tahoe down to mammoth. that would be early next week. stratus quo is in place. low overcast, fog, then sun. nice. mild, blustery, breezy to downright windy for some 5060 by the water. 60s and 70s inland. if anything, maybe a

i just hope this year's summer block party will really energize downtown san jose. the event kicked off last night. it will be held every month and it includes live music, vendor booths, artists and restaurants. business owners say the summer block party is a chance to promote themselves. >> sign up for all of them. we think this is like a cool event. we love helping local businesses and we really want to just introduce our product to the local customer base as well. >> i do support the community a lot. i'm out here from from my city more, more so. and you know, i love, you know, love the people, love seeing, you know, the community coming together. >> and the city of san jose is teaming up with a community group called the urban vibrancy institute to bring more attention to small businesses. 65 vendors are taking part in this year's block parties. >> a long running festival in downtown livermore comes alive

this weekend, and it's bringing back a feature that's been on hold for a couple of years. i will say the weather is going to be perfect because normally you sweat it out at the downtown street festival, but not this year. it's the 32nd year of the livermore downtown street fest. it's a two day event, features live music, vendors, arts and crafts, beer and wine tasting, lounges, and so much more. also back by popular demand, those collectible street fest wine glasses they were replaced with recyclable cups during the pandemic. >> all right, our time is 724. all right. now we know who's going to perform in napa at the black radio experience this year. john legend, jill scott and dre 3000 will headline the three day event along with 30 other musical guests and comedians. dave chappelle hosted previous years there, but he won't be taking the stage in this summer's event. the festival is due to take place august 30th to september 1st at

on two. >> well good morning. thank you for joining us. welcome back to mornings on two i'm dave clark i'm gasia mikaelian. >> it is friday may 18th some may 18th we're sweating it out. others like today were grabbing a jacket before we head out the door. >> steve that crossed my mind yesterday. i'm like, you know, for may, this is pretty cool. other days you're like, oh man, it's already 90, you know? right? that's not the case here for us this may. and i don't think we're really going to see much of that, probably all the way for the rest of the month. early next week does look warmer, but then it comes right back down. there is a little bit of a break over sfo in the low cloud deck, but most locations say cloudy and the fog has made it all the way out to sacramento. that's a heck of a surge right there, to see that even travis at one time had cloudy skies. i mean, usually that's about the cut off cordelia fairfield, but it's a big fog bank. some local drizzles in place, but we're working for the weekend, that's for sure. but boy, it's a cool start to friday, and i think it will be a cool weekend as well. fog burns back to the coast. may

take a while for some 60s and 70s at best. well the morning commute is always on my mind, so let's ask the man himself how are things on a friday? >> are you asking me to take you to the top, steve, because i can't. >> yeah, just turn me loose, my friend. >> i will, steve, i will. let's go right to the bay bridge, which is notorious for a bunch of slow traffic, but today it's not. i think a lot of people are already working for the weekend, and they're loving every minute of it. you can see interstate 880 is looking okay, but watch out. there's a little slow traffic passing the coliseum, traffic is okay. on 580. san mateo bridge is moving along. okay. and right now in san jose on northbound 101, two, 80 and 85, everything looks pretty good at 730. let's get back to the headlines. new this morning. >> highway one through big sur just reopened after being closed for more than six weeks due to march's massive storms. those repairs were completed eight days ahead of schedule. ktvu tori gaines live in monterey

county with why tori this timing really is key. >> absolutely. good morning. garcia the timing of this opening is huge, especially as tourists start to flock to our california coastlines to enjoy the beauty that is here, including down in big sur. now this impact, this road slip that happened here more than six weeks ago has had a large impact on these coastal communities, particularly in big sur. i'm going to step out of the frame so you can take a look at the traffic that is now making its way through. now, excuse me. one second, one direction convoys, convoys were scheduled as a temporary solution here through this roadway closure. they were also intended only for essential workers and local residents. now, authorities aim to keep the stress on the roadway to a minimum as the repairs were under way some days in april, they canceled the convoys altogether due to wet weather. now, caltrans says those challenges are part of navigating the roads on the coast. >> conversation between the

highway, the oceans and the mountain and trying to meet the challenge that mother nature gives us. >> now, construction on this roadway was tricky business, as you can see in the picture here, a crane held repair crews suspended in a basket over the edge of the roadway, something that could only be done in very specific weather conditions, namely when winds were under the speed of 25mph. because that basket was suspended more than 170ft in the air. now governor gavin newsom visited the site earlier this month when he signed an emergency proclamation which would help secure $100 million in federal funding for repairs across the state due to recent storms. excuse me one moment now. newsom described the repairs and also celebrated the work being completed as the roadway is now open. but caltrans is asking drivers to use caution through the area. >> just really want to encourage travelers to moderate their

speed when they come through the new signal. it's a new traffic setup, and then once you're past this, you have a beautiful drive ahead of you. no need to get ahead and pretend you're in the big city, rush. you're back in nature, relax and enjoy the ride . >> now, these repairs, though very extensive, it took many crews, many hours of work to get this roadway prepared. these are. this is only a temporary fix. now, there is currently a design phase for this roadway, which is expected to be completed in spring of 2025. live in monterey county. tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news okay. >> tori thank you. time now. 733 well, yosemite has a new instagram account. it's to help the lovers of the great outdoors and climbing enthusiasts plan your trips to the national park. now the account is called yosemite big wall travel. it tracks daily permits for wilderness climbing and the number of climbers on each individual route. park rangers

hope this traffic information will allow climbers to make better decisions on which route to take to avoid crowded climbs. >> one woman is in jail facing felony assault charges for what police are calling an unprovoked attack at a store in san francisco. surveillance video shows the victim walking into kansas food market in the city's potrero hill neighborhood tuesday afternoon. moments later, another woman enters and begins hitting the victim with a bag containing a bottle of whiskey. the attack continues until the shop clerk chases the attacker away. >> i think the video tells one part of the story, but you know this is a real person with a real history, and the video doesn't share what that history is. >> police arrested 26 year old jessica blasi of oakland shortly after the attack. she appeared in court yesterday. her attorney says she's dealing with serious mental health issues. >> your time now. 734 new developments involving allegations of bullying within the antioch school district, an independent investigator processed two of the four complaints and says the school

district acted appropriate and found, quote, no irregularities. several school employees accused the school district of not investigating a manager accused of making inappropriate remarks and trying to intimidate them. now, the school board president was one of those who accused the school district of not taking action, and he issued a statement saying, i will not tolerate an environment where bullies are allowed to run rampant in our school district. i will not be bullied or silenced by any administration official just because i'm calling them out. it is now 735 new information coming in involving today's still developing story about the arrest of the world's number one golfer, scottie scheffler, at the pga championship in louisville, kentucky, a police report says a detective was taken to the hospital after being dragged by scottie scheffler. his vehicle. espn originally reported there was a crash near the golf course, and

there may have been a misunderstanding as scheffler drove past a police checkpoint to get to the country club. when he was finally stopped, espn reports. scheffler was shoved against a car and was handcuffed. scheffler was arrested. he faces charges that include assaulting a peace officer. now scheffler has been released and in fact, he just teed off for the second round a short while ago as college graduation ceremonies are in full swing this time of year, a new study finds. >> it often pays off for college graduates to have a double major. researchers at ohio state found graduates with two majors essentially double their chances of getting and keeping a job, especially in tough economic times. >> find the value of a double major is to protect the earner against downswings in earnings, earning a double major reduces the impact of a negative earnings shock by about 56, the

>> thank you, mr. mvp. appreciate that. all right. we do have a huge fog bank huge. well out to the sacramento valley i mean for mid-may now they've been hot but they'll cool down obviously today. but when you get low cloud deck to make it all the way out that far sacramento roseville yuba city there you go. so that's a heck of a push. not only there, but look at southern california socked in the may gray big time there in los angeles, santa barbara down to san diego. i don't think this pattern's really changing all that much. it'll be subtle changes, but i think it takes us at the end of the may and into june with kind of a favoring that trend here. bigger fog bank drizzle bases have lifted, had no problem flying over the coastal hills for many here. drizzle tilden park with almost a 10th of an inch. bonny doon, davenport santa rosa 0.02 to a 0.04. there'll be more tonight. tomorrow. now, when low clouds make it all the way to travis. and they were at one time cloudy, so the wind speeds come

department is looking they want to recruit more women at their fifth annual women's boot camp. it's this weekend. it's a one day event. it's open to women, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, umming and trans people. 75 women between 18 and 24 years old are already signed up. officials say that's an increase by one third compared to last year. now the women taking part will go through the rigors. they'll know what it's like to go through an academy obstacle course and better find out what it's like to be a firefighter, being a female and just being that presence out in the community, whether we have schools come in and just being that female figure and showing, you know, all ages that we are out there and we can do it. >> one of the things that i'm very interested in is trying to bring talent to the city of san jose. i think that we bring sort of a different perspective on different situations, and i

building with those metal barricades you see there. once that barricade was up, university workers went in and started clearing away the trash and belongings inside the building that protesters had been occupying. there's no there were no physical fights or any injuries reported. protesters chanted support for palestine in the war in gaza free, free, free, free, free palestine free now! none of the protesters spoke with the media. the people at the encampment said that they would only provide information about their cause and their demands. on their instagram page . the university confirms, though, that this group is different from the protesters, who set up an encampment near sproul hall a few weeks ago. that encampment was dismantled after a deal was reached with uc berkeley administrators, and the uc berkeley academic year has since ended with much of those protesters or student protesters having left. but uc berkeley says it considers the occupation of head hall a crime, not free speech, and says the 12 people who were arrested will likely be charged on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and

today. a judge in new mexico will consider alec baldwin's request to dismiss his involuntary manslaughter charge, tied to a deadly shooting on a movie set. the actor's lawyers are accusing prosecutors of, quote, unethical behavior to secure the grand jury indictment that led to this trial. the weapons expert on that movie set, who handed the loaded gun to baldwin, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter back in march. >> the sentencing hearing will be held today for david depape, the man convicted of attacking the husband of congresswoman nancy pelosi with a hammer. federal prosecutors want the pap to be sentenced to 40 years in prison for the attack in october of 2022. depape was convicted last november on federal charges for breaking into the pelosi home in san francisco and attacking paul pelosi, prosecutors say that depape should get the maximum punishment. they say he shows no remorse and even seems to be proud of his actions as well. >> 807 now california attorney general rob bonta ordered an organization in oakland to cease operating bonta says the group neighbors together oakland, has

in broad daylight in the redwood heights neighborhood over a span of six weeks. home surveillance video capturing one of them earlier this week. and it shows two masked burglars running out of a home, one of them holding a pillowcase. the victim says it's filled with jewelry stolen from her bedroom. >> just bust in my home and take my things like it's no problem. it's terrifying. it's frustrating. >> while the people living on reinhardt drive say all three break-ins have been between the hours of noon and 4 p.m, and they say these bold thieves don't seem to care that anyone is seeing them break into these homes. >> they were, you know, certainly not put off by somebody seeing them commit a crime. it seems like this was kind of a normal practice for them. >> neighbors have taken a photo of what they say is the thieves car this black bmw sedan here, the people living on the streets suspect these homes close proximity to the highway. highway 13 and 580 make them a target for thieves. looking for

a quick getaway. >> we'll move across the bay here as the newest homeless count in san francisco shows mixed results. the city's point in time count shows total homelessness in san francisco increased by 7% from 2022 to 2024. there are more than 8300 people now experiencing homelessness in the city. this, according to city researchers. now, at the same time, city leaders point to the fact the number of people living on streets, in tents or on vehicles is actually on the decline. and we see that here. the number of people without shelter decreased by 1% since 2022, a whopping 16. if you compare it to the 2019 numbers, nearly half of the city's homeless population is currently sheltered. the city data also point out that youth homelessness has decreased by 9, but the number of families who are homeless has gone up sharply by 94% since 2022 to now, 437 families. the city also found that its chronically homeless population increased by 9. more than 2900 people have been identified as chronically homeless. >> the city of san francisco also says its new homeless

outreach program has connected thousands of people with help. during its first year. the city says the homeless engagement assistance response team, called heart for short, has responded to almost 14,000 calls, including 80% of calls to three one 1 or 9 one one involving unhoused people and 70% of calls related to sidewalk and street encampments. the city is currently sending other calls involving homeless people, including some for trespassing and suspicious persons. calls to the heart program at the state capitol, the senate and assembly appropriations committee sifted through more than a thousand bills and blocked many of them due to california's budget crunch in the state assembly, lawmakers passed bills that attempted to crack down on retail theft and a proposed constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to clean air, water and environment committees, though blocked several high profile proposals, including one that was a step toward the legalization of psychedelics and another that was an attempt to establish a single payer health care system in california. >> i think it's no secret where the budget is today. you know, we have an obligation to balance

of schedule. ktvu tori gaines has been there all morning live in monterey county with why the timing is so important here. tori good morning garcia. >> the timing of this reopening is absolutely key for these coastal communities, which see millions. excuse me, not millions. tons of visitors. every year. now that this roadway is reopened, i'm going to take a step out of the way so you can see some traffic may be peppering its way through this morning, one of the one direction convoys earlier during the closure, one direction convoys were scheduled as a temporary solution to the problem of the slip out of this road. now, initially they were also they were intended only for essential workers and local residents. but authorities aim to keep the stress on the roadway to a minimum, especially as repairs were underway some days. in april, they canceled the convoys altogether due to wet weather. caltrans says those challenges are part of navigating roads on the coast. >> conversation between the highway, the oceans and the mountain, and trying to meet the

challenge that mother nature gives us. >> crews began working around the clock in mid-april. two sets of 12 hour shifts in order to get the roadway repaired. now, construction on this two lane highway was tricky. business as you can see here. in this picture, a crane held repair crews suspended in a basket over the edge of the roadway, over 170ft above the ocean, something that could only be done in very specific weather conditions. now governor gavin newsom visited the site earlier this month when he signed an emergency proclamation, which would help secure $100 million in federal funding for repairs across the state due to recent storms. now, earlier this morning, we spoke with some folks at, down at big sur river in who are visiting big sur from la. >> i've been driving down, on the highway one now that's like, yeah, amazing. >> so you got to actually come down now that it's open. >> exactly. yeah. we took the

convoy. >> they spent three weeks telling the world that it was closed. >> but now we spoke with local residents who also wanted to emphasize that though this closure near rocky creek bridge is open, there is still another slide south of big sur that is impacting traffic. now caltrans is asking drivers as this roadway reopens to use caution through the area. now these repairs though, they were very extensive, very, very many crews as i said, worked on this round the clock. they are only temporary. it's a temporary fix. we're expecting to see the next phase, which is the design phase. it's currently in process now. we're expecting to see the finished results of that in spring of 2025. live in monterey county. tori gaines, ktvu, fox two news. >> tori thank you. your time now is 833. new information involving today's developing story about the arrest of the world's number one golfer, scotty scheffler, at the pga championship in louisville, kentucky. a police report says the detective was dragged by

scheffler's vehicle and had to be hospitalized. espn originally reported there was a crash near the golf course, and there may have been a misunderstanding as scheffler drove past a police checkpoint to get to the country club when he was finally stopped. espn reports he was shoved against a car and handcuffed. scheffler was arrested and faces charges including assaulting a peace officer. well, now scheffler has been released and just teed off for the second round. a short time ago, none of this new developments involving allegations of bullying within the antioch school district, an independent investigator now process two of the four complaints and says the school district acted appropriately and found, quote, no irregularities. now, several employees accused the school district of not investigating a manager who was accused of making inappropriate remarks and trying to intimidate them. the school board president was one of those who accused the district of not taking action. he issued a statement saying, quote, i will not tolerate an environment where bullies are allowed to run rampant in our

>> surveillance video of the attack on tuesday afternoon, posted to nextdoor is shocking. the victim walks into the kansas food market in potrero hill. moments later, another woman enters and begins hitting the victim from behind with a bag containing a bottle of jack daniel's whiskey. that woman then begins pulling the victim's hair and punching her until the victim falls to the floor. the attack continues until the shop clerk runs off the assailant. san francisco police arrested 26 year old jessica blasi from oakland shortly after the attack. she appeared in court where prosecutors formally charged her with felony assault. through her attorney, she pled not guilty. >> so the next process is we do have some concerns about mental health. i don't know, miss blasi. she was having a challenging time explaining sort of some of her background and so what we'll do is we ask the court to do an in-custody assessment of her mental health condition in court, the prosecutor said she struck the victim at least ten times in a flurry of blows. >> the district attorney's office releasing a statement about the attack, saying in part , quote, it is random acts of

violence like this that negatively impact a feeling of safety in communities. blaze's defense attorney said the bottle in the attack was plastic, not glass, and at the time of the incident, blasi was wearing a hospital bracelet and may have recently been released from nearby zuckerberg san francisco general hospital, just a few blocks away from the incident. her defenders said. while the incident may have been captured on video, it doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. >> i think the video tells one part of the story, but you know, this is a real person with a real history and the video doesn't share with that. >> history is the shopkeeper who drove off. the attacker didn't want to talk on camera, but neighbors in the area say they're surprised to hear about the unprovoked attack. i mean, it's, you know, a big city, right? >> well, a small, big city and stuff happens, but it is a little bit surprising. i think, like generally it's a really safe neighborhood. >> the suspect in this case is due back in court at the end of the month. if she is released from custody, the judge has issued an order to stay away
