in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at 11:00 o'clock, tracking the rain and a big chill that's coming right behind it. big concerns over two dangerous viruses breaking details about a local death involving the enterovirus as fear spreads over the ebola virus. >> good evening i'm chris may. i'm jessica dean. a short time ago the c d.c. confirmed a four year old boy who died last week in mercer county tested positive for enterovirus d68. that pre-schooler attended yardville elementary school in hamilton township. this is the first new jersey child death involving the respiratory illness. health officials stress it's unclear if the enterovirus played a direct role or a contributing factor in his dea death. the state currently has nine confirm cases of the virus in several counties including camden and burlington. >> meanwhile tonight, three

children being tested for enterovirus d68 at chop. all of these children have developed weakness in their arms and legs along with swelling in their spine. doctors are investigating to see if there's connection between the weakness and the enterovirus infection. in colorado group of eight children experienced weakness and paralysis. but only four had the virus. >> we see patienting with inflammation of the spinal cord. it's very prominent involvement gray matter is not very common and that raises the possible of an infection. >> tests results for the philadelphia children are expected to be back from the cdc win a few days. now to the latest on ebola outbreak. hazmat crews in texas have decontaminated the dallas apartment where thomas eric duncan was staying when he got ill. the family couldn't find to the apartment has been moved to a private residence that's been offered up toy a volunteer. in the meantime photographer the latest american diagnosed with ebola will be flown from africa

back to the u.s. for treatment. >> natasha brown is live tonight at philadelphia international airport where ebola concern is running high among travelers. natasha? >> reporter: jessica, we can assure you there is a lot of concern among travelers now the ebola virus has reach the us. we spoke with a cdc spokesperson earlier today about how they are preparing to handle ill passengers. they even gave us a glimpse inside a quarantine station similar to one here at philadelphia international airport. travelers at philadelphia international airport continue to dart off to their destinations. some a little less care free. a little more concerned about the ebola epidemic. >> no empty who or from -- where. we just hope it doesn't affect us. >> u.s. is dealing with its first ebola case in texas the centers for disease control now trying to control the spread of the virus both in the states and

abroad. passengers bustling through philadelphia's international terminal may not see it but there is a quarantine station similar to this one in the land to's airport it set up inside the terminal for ill travelers. >> we've done additional training and work with customs and border protection agents so they know about the symptoms of ebola. what to look for as they're processing the travelers coming in. >> we spoke with christine pearson from the cdc headquarters in atlanta. she shed they stepped up precautions in africa. >> they're exit screening for all travelers leaving the countries where it's occurring. if someone gets sick during a flight. and then there's what is happening in the airports now with customs and border protection watching for ill travelers. >> we've put up special guidance for airline crews and cleaning and cargo personnel to provide information about what then be doing. >> the because administration is also now assuring that the virus

will not spread in the u.s. >> every ebola outbreak over the past 40 years has been stopped. we know how to do this. and we will do it again. >> reporter: well the cdc also tells us that they are checking a passengers for a fever before they get on certain international flights into the us. that's another precaution that they're taking and they're also hoping to assure travelers that procedures are in place to protect their health and their well-being. we're live here at philadelphia international airport tonight, saturday natasha brown cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> that's good to know. natasha, thank you very much. we are now just a few hours away from rain and some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in quite sometime. meteorologist kathy orr is here with what we should expect. kathy. >> we have very powerful storm system making its way across the country you can see the line of showers and storms behind moo part of the same system that just last night brought this

severe weather to parts of texas this video is from a fair in waco the high winds kicked up the rain moved in, people were scrambling for shelter. the fair had to be shut down because of the storms. aftermath was unbelievable. there was significant damage there. well fortunately, we are not expecting severe weather out of this system but we will see the rain and we will see some wind and already the rain is moving in to the delaware valley through parts of the chester county reading berks county into the lehigh valley and into the state of delaware. it's moving northward than eastward so it will take little time to get into philadelphia. but over into the it will spread across the region. so it's not just one band or two bands. but three bands of rain. this is our cold front through cincinnati and all of this has to move through the delaware valley before it comes to an end. so overnight the rain will be spreading in. heavy at times between 3:00 and 6am. maybe a few rumbles of thunder. and then by 7am, it's spotty, some pocks of heavy rain but by the early afternoon the skies do begin to clear.

so this is what we do expect. saturday morning between a half an inch quarter of an inch across the region. heaviest through about 7am and winds gusting to 25 miles an hour. the bigger story may be what follows. the cold air that is already made its way through the midwest and northern plains will be here for the weekend. we'll talk about how cold it's going to get and how long it's going to last with the seven day later in the broadcast. jess. >> kathy, thanks. 17 year old girl who was driving an suv that crashed along the schuylkill river is in critical but stable condition tonight. chopper three at martin luther king drive near girard avenue. that suv rolled down the embankment and landed right in there neck to the waters of the schuylkill river. right now there's no word and what caused the crash. >> tonight isis has be heade hed another man british hostage allen henning. it ends with a militant threatening to kill another man. the american peter cass sick.

isis has previously beheaded two other americans reporters james foley and steven sotloff. >> now to a fire at the sight of the flight 93 national memorial in shanksville, pennsylvania. the flames broke out there late this afternoon and destroyed three administrative buildings. one of them houses archival material but much of it is kept in fireproof vault much the flames did not reach the memorial itself. no injuries have been reported. >> new information on day 21 puff the manhunt for accused trooper killer eric frein. investigators believe as running out of food in the woods along the border between monroe and pike counties. today pennsylvania state police showed us a photo of a camp sight they found in that area. police discovered tuna fish, instant noodles and ammunition they believe belonged to him. he's could you said of killing a trooper and wounding another during an ambush at the blooming grove barrack. >> melissa rivers will sue the doctor who performed an unscheduled biopsy on her mother

joan riffs went into cardiac arrest during a vocal cord procedure. her personal doctor performed an unplanned and unsanked biopsy. rivers vocal cords seized which cut off her air supply. the doctored reported snapped a selfie with joan rivers while she was under anesthesia. well a ritzy section of philadelphia stands out on new list of some of the pricey yesterday place toss live anywhere in the country. >> oy witness news reporter walt hunter tells us just how much you're going to have to pay the land lard to live in written house square and why many say it's worth it. >> reporter: for folks around rittenhouse square, the news that it's one every the most expensive spots in america to rent an apartment really wasn't news at all. >> it's not surprising. >> reporter: no big surprise that rittenhouse square makes it on that list? >> honestly, no. >> i'm not surprised at all. >> reporter: an apartments.com puts the square on the top rental price list at number 14.

sits on the delaware liver. the fate of one the most famous ships the ss united states will be decided in just the next few weeks. tonight matt rivers takes us on board for an exclusive tour and the fight to save this piece of maritime history. >> reporter: in the age where the owing liner was king, this ship ruled them all. the ss united states sailed the atlantic from 1952 to 1968 as cbs news walter cronkite put it -- >> thrill you with pride and wonder. she's just a magnificent boat. >> reporter: a boat that attracted stars like bob hope and grace kelly. presidents, too. john f. kennedy took a trip with wife jacqueline along with plenty of regular folks. >> being from montana i didn't know much at all so it was really spectacular. we had to dress for din are in every night because we were in

first class. we had to look just so. >> reporter: and yet today it look like this. dilapidated on the delaware across from the ikea in south philly. >> this is the most famous ship that didn't sing. >> reporter: nancy gibbs grandfather designed the ship. she run the non-profit that owns it. >> she's really the only great american liner still left in this world. >> reporter: she took us on board for an exclusive look inside. detectives once passed with lounging passengers now weathered and empty. the first class cabins now stripped bear. this is where people would spend their evenings with a can be tail and live music and deep win the ship where you need flashlights to see, a pool filled with water from the atlantic, of course. >> this is where my grandmother would do her lapse. report roar the ship is enormous over 1,000 fet long and sat here in philadelphia battling the elements since 1996. as you might imagine it's no easy task keeping the ship

afloat. it costs the conservancy about $60,000 a month to do so. and its funds are quickly drying up. >> i do not want to watch this ship be towed to a scrap yard and ripped apart. >> reporter: gibbs wants to save the ship and its history. it must be sold. she hopes it can be refurbished space along with museum. other ideas like the queen mary in california turn it in a had he tell restaurant and retail complexion. one potential buyer would move the ship to brooklyn. believe it or not, it could be towed right now. >> it's not as bad as it looks. >> um-hmm. it's super official. there's peeling paint an coating of rust, but the ship is still nine 2% its original strength. >> reporter: to this day, no passenger ship has crossed the atlantic faster than the ss united states. now it's racing to stay afloat. matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> let's go down the shore now

atlantic city the skyline there lookinlooking great in pink tont buildings there taking par in the lights for the cure campaign a joint effort by cbs-3 and susan g. komen philadelphia. that pink light right there a reminder for women to schedule a ma'am program. >> october is breast cans sr. awareness month. well the weekend is now upon us and kathy joins us now. what are we looking at? little bit of mixed bag. >> it's a nuisance. little periods of heavy rain wild we're sleeping and then maybe one more batch toward the noon hour and then it's pretty out of here. so if you slice the weekend up over the two days i would say possibly a quarter of the time will be seeing the rain but most of it look really good. take look outside where we have dry conditions. not everywhere but in center city. still dry. the clouds are around and when you wack outside you can almost smell the rain coming our way. down the shore, yes we're still seeing the pink in honor of breast cancer awardness month. looking at the back bay in atlantic city where the rain will be moving in during the early morning hours.

our live neighborhood network shows us temperatures from today. pretty uniform. and seasonable across the regi region. pleasant valley, looking good, 72. green lane 72. new castle at peter school 72. lumberton 71 degrees. right now cooling down a little bit. the poconos 54. philadelphia still at 63. 66 in dover and 61 in reading and in lancaster. we are tracking the rain on storm scan three and here it is. some light shower activity through lee his val, berks county where you see the yellow to the south of harrisburg heavier. so this is one wave rain moving in with more to come during the overnight period. so you have this batch of rain coming in ahead of this batch of rain that's heading towards pittsburgh this is our actual cold front so this has to clear before the skies clear and temperatures will plunge. so morning rain at least through the noon hour. temperatures will be around 70 and then the front moves through, the temperatures fall, but at least the skies clear. we'll wake up to the coolest

temperatures of the season. sunday morning by the afternoon only in the 60s. it will be at least 10 degrees below average on sunday. but then temperature rebound into the 70s were more of a southerly wind component as high pressure will sit to our south on monday. then here we go. the coldest air of the season already through chicago, detroit move our way by sunday. but the good news is, that cold air will retreat. it's not going to stick around long. so overnight, the rain moves in to philadelphia after midnight. we'll see that morning rain. the afternoon clearing. it will be breezy. the temperatures fall in the afternoon and the winds still at least 10 to 20 miles an hour. now morning lows on sunday pretty significant. 30s in the pock nose. lower 40s in the lehigh valley and reading and lancaster in philadelphia we'll be in the mid 40s and then as you move your way a little bit farther to the south, we will see conditions that will be a little bit better in the 50s near the shore. heading to the eagles game kick off time 1:00 o'clock. kick off temperature only 60. and with winds out of the west

"pennsylvania's jobless rate is up for the second straight month as employment fell and unemployment rose."
