tour semifinals but it earn t purwhoovet s inay's title game. >> looks like the fourth of july in our backyard. >> also tonight, recovery mode. an explosion is caught on camera in ambler as a pine tree falls onto a transformer following last night's nor'easter. thousands of homes in the tri-state area are still in the darcrews are working around the clock to clear roads and break down large limbs that fell onto power lines. along the ben franklin parkway here a reminder of just how powerful those winds were. this toppled tree near the arton top of at least two cars that were in its path and good evening, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us tonight. delaware county is one of the hardest hit areas in the region. and that is where officials have declared a disaster emergency at this point. "eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves is live in havertown to show us some of the problems in that county. alycia. >> reporter: natasha almost 24 hours after the nor'easter

passed through here, many people in this county are having a rough go at it. you'll notice this tree just behind me, it's completely dark. unless there's a generator not a single house has lights and that's because the power is still out here. now, a third of the county, that's tens of thousands of people, woke up this morning with no power. the power outages throughout the region and the county trees that were knocked down. this storm, a lot of cleanup happened today here in havertown though we still saw so many trees in the streets. some even still knocked onto power lines. no all these trees uprooted by the heavy winds in yesterday's storm didn't nearly knock out power but caused serious damage to homes and properties. joe holden got a picture with one tree that completely crushed a car near here. for a lot of people adding to the stress of no, sir power and property damage is the struggle to find a warm place to sleep tonight. >> all the hotels are absolutely booked and the ones like the reasonable hotels are booked and the others prices

are so high we're not able to book anything at that price. >> reporter: sleep at your job. >> i'm going to sleep at work. >> reporter: what you're looking at live out here is that woman's home. there is a tree on top of it. the woman said it crushed her bedroom so on top of having no power and this damage she is opting to stay at her work and sleep there tonight. the county did open up warming stations for people still struggling to find a warm place to sleep. those warming stations are mostly at fire houses. there are about a half dozen of them and we have the information on each on our web site at cbsphilly.com. live in havertown, alycia nieves cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> so much widespread damage. thank you alycia. as people in pennsylvania continue their cleanup, communities across new jersey are also now dealing with some very serious damage as well. trees toppled onto power lines left holes in rooftops all around the state. their way through branches today. >> reporter: the powerful winds took out a number of big trees like this oak that ripped up part of the street and worse than that it slammed into the roof of this home. it was snowing sawdust and mulch saturday as tree crews tackled the aftermath of an extremely winter winter storm. >> heavy winds big storm, a lot of trees. >> reporter: bob woke up to the sound of this tree falling onto his home on hillside avenue in haddon heights. >> a big crash. my wife and son started yelling, hey, tree is coming down. part of it's coming down now. >> reporter: now that the storm is over the headache begins trying to figure out how much insurance will cover. >> it looks like it's just outside and on the front little bit and over on the side. know, about. >> reporter: a few streets away another crew was remov on west high street. this house belongs to the dafoni family who were not at down.your house >> pretty scary. dogs. >> t we family theul gs ae aeoi. >> reporter: utility restore power to tens of ma t wen

southth it b of all trees and companies pse&g and atlantic city electric say it will most likely take until sunday night before power is restored to all homes. in haddon heights i'm cleve bryan, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, the nor'easter meantime it did turn deadly last night. a driver in montgomery county lost his life on the road. part of a large treea carulph road in upper merion township. police got the call about night. a 57-year-old man died at the scene. an investigation the under way. also utility companies are making some progress at least in repairing downed power lines but hundreds of thousands are still power even at this hour. now 217,000 peco customers are in the dark. nearly 26,000 for ppl 10,000 for atlantic city electric. nearly 6,000 for delmarva, 4,000 for and getting around other septa regional rail lines still very much a problem due to the storm. train service on some lines is still suspended because of

power, equipment or track issues. at 30th street station here we found passengers patiently waiting for the few trains that are running. septa says crews are working to clean up storm damage on the tracks. >> trees many of them off of our right away fell over onto us. this is a tree that came down, another very tall tree that came down on our doylestown line last night near the e routes detour because of storm well.some northeast corridorice and keystone service following are some delays. both l operatingheck amtrak before out to 30th street station. the auto train service will resume tmoow the nor'easte wreaked havoc on t bit today. meteorologist lauren casey is taking some inventory in a sense checking things out for the moment as windy does continue and coastal flooding does remain a warning as well, right, lauren? >> yeah, absolutely. still dealing with some indirect imp nor different looking scene thankfully than this timeterday as we look at center city philadelphia. no heavy snow coming down.

it's chilly though. 39 degrees is our current temperature and we're still dealing with these elevated wind speeds due to that nor'easter. northerly winds at hour. feelinike with in capay. that's near hurricane strength. washington township 65 m severe thunderstorm criteria is 58 miles per hour. we had gusts well above that in dover and northeast philly and that's why we had so many issues with downed trees and downed wires across the area yesterday. still some gusty winds but again not damaging winds. winds gusting to 40 miles per millville. gusting to 31 in philadelphia. are with this coastal flood warning in effect for the jersey coastline. moderate -- minor to moderate flooding possible as we head into high tide time just a couple hours from now. 9:30 a little bit later for back bays but expect flooding of numerous roads with this coastal flooding aad into the next could iteaster in thealk f a few. >> oh, boy say it isn't so lauren. "eyewitness news" here on the 3400 block of chippendale avenue in holmesburg about 7:30 last night. police say that's where the man shot both women in the head and then fled the scene. officers later caught up to the suspect. they say he then led them on a pursuit.
