Who could ever forget, "I dismembered Mama!" Peggy Wood reminds me of the old German lady who lived down the road from us.

I was an infant when this show was on. I remember being allowed to stay up a bit later one night each week to watch it. I believe one season was filmed and syndicated for a time, but what a pity that so many episodes were lost. Peggy Wood and the entire cast were just marvelous, and seeing them again is a great comfort ... and with such a young Dick Van Patten. Thank you for keeping the memories of this heartwarming program alive.

Still relevant today, and so well done, you'll wish that the picture and sound would be cleaned up and put on tv, (or here because it's free!!!)
This is a family drama about "Mama", and her husband, both immigrants, and their 3 children and sometimes other various relatives, in America. Story lines vary, but usually with a good-natured humor, sometimes more serious, as is the case here where Papa deals with prejudice on-the-job.
I wish all the episodes could be found and posted. LOVE this series.

One of television's earliest regular programs, I have known about "I Remember Mama" for a long time but I have never had the chance to view it before seeing it here, on the Archive.
I think the show is fascinating for both historical and entertainment purposes. It gives the viewer a glimpse of what early television family light-drama was like back in the beginning.
Also, I believe it's worth pointing out that the teen-aged son named Nels in the program is a young Dick Van Patten (of "Eight Is Enough" fame).

Not what you'd expect for a 50's TV series, which is maybe why it was so popular. Yes, it's sappy, But that's not a bad thing.

"Mama" (Also known as "I Remember Mama"), was a 50's TV series about a Norwegian family who immigrated to America. Done live, The show quickly became quite popular, and was among the Top 20 in the ratings quite often. However, CBS threw away most of the episodes, so this series has almost never been re-run. This episode is called "Mama's Bad Day". It's a fairly enjoyable episode.
