it's operating within our budget. we are looking at projects and also looking at the expenses of our current revenue bonds to make sure those dollars are spent before asks for issuance. including the projects are on the list for consideration on that funding. in the positively we were hoping we would go into an issuance in advance. we would be able to start the project sooner rather than sticking with the oh bag schedule in starting in january 2014. we are investigating some other option through prop k to at least begin the design for the project now because really where we are is the project has legislated and on hold until we start the design project and start the construction. we are looking to find dollars in

that it's gone up by $2 million and they are need to ing to fill that gap. the second street project, dpw completed the planning process but they would like an additional community meeting that will most likely be scheduled in april to address ada issues and access issues around the cycle tracks. i think the second street team is really working to see if we can create more citywide policy on if we are continuing to have. what can we do? >> i hope there is very careful planning for that one to avoid concerns by so many people on jfk drive. >> also the environmental team

is moving forward and work to go figure out what type of environmental clearance would be needed. there is a chance that is required which is called a focus vir, on transportation issues along second street corridor. we'll have a better sense of the timing and how long that process would take bearing in mind the 3 year windows from 2013, 2014 and 2015, and 16 time period we have. there was a prop k request from the s f t a in january as far as planning and engineering work. they have gone through 2 community meetings. i believe the last meeting is tonight to discuss projects and come up

with a preferred alternative. this project would go under the recreation and parks. they are work to go make the project more ready. the next project is project plaza i am improvements. the oh bag application was really focused on the north and south side of again geneva. the north side can me is working with bart where people access the station of the north side of geneva. so battery bart would be moving forward on the south side and they would like to wait on canopy and in lieu of that put a bus shelter

on the south side. what this would do in terms of moving the project forward because of the timing of the area funds, this would advance the project about 9 months. looking at the schedules but in terms of funding availability to bring the project forward a little bit. the final two projects the -- commissioner avls. yes, very quickly. the blue project, this will be coordinated with $3.6 million project. this is not a lot of planning and design. we understand they are trying to move forward and start some of those discussion. we'll be looking at our prop k program to see if we can provide some

of the paving funds. finally the 24th street bart station the northeast, southwest plaza, the construction is upgrading the plaza area. the project didn't score as high because it's a focus plaza. improvement as opposed to being a multi-corridor project. the next steps again, april 29, we'll 11 oh bag application and may 22nd we'll go through our process and the authority board hoping to get final recommendations to the mta. with that i will take questions. >> thank you just a quick

needed equity. >> great. i will hold you to that >> i did have a question. my understanding is that there is 2 million in transit planning funds that the mtc as granted to our planning department and wondering if we can request handout you the planning department is going to prioritize that? >> sure. the transportation authority is working on what is called the pda investment and growth strategy. we use different acronyms. investment studies. that will set the framework for those investment of pda funds and we'll come before the board to discuss that and all the pieces it touches and it touches on the transportation plan, the 5 y p p and a lot of the different

a moment in history. the birth of a publicly own transit system. san francisco municipal railway. muni as it would become to be known. happy birthday, muni, here is to the next 100 years. the birth of muni had been a long-time coming. over the years the city was disjointed privately owned companies. horses and steam and electric-powered vehicles. creating a hodgepodge of transit options. none of them particularly satisfying to city residents. the city transit system like the city itself would have changes during the san francisco earthquake. the transition that will pursue

from this aftermath would change san francisco's transportation system once again. facilitated by city boss, abe ruth, ushering in the electric city car. the writing was on the wall. the clammer had begun for the experiment including public transit people. owned by the people and for the people. the idea of a consolidated city-owned transit system had begun traction. and in 1909, voters went to the polls and created a bond measure to create the people's railway. would become a reality three years later. on december 28, 1912, mayor

sonny rolph introduced the new geary electric streetcar line and the new san francisco railway. that he said would be the nucleus that would host the city. and san francisco gave further incentive to expand the city's network. a project by way of tunnel leading into chinatown by way of north beach. in december the first streetcar was driven into the tunnel. just two years after its berth, muni had added two lines. and k, l and m lines that span out from westportal. in 1928, the j line opened

heading west to the beach. in 1944 san francisco voters finally approved muni take-over of the market street railway. by then motor bus and trolley bus improvement had given them the ability to conquer san francisco's hills. after the war most of the street-car lines would be replaced with motor or trolley bus service. in 1947, the mayor recommended replacing two lines with motor coaches. and it appeared that san francisco's iconic cable cars had seen their final days. entered mrs. cluskin, the leader to save the cable cars. arguing that the cable cars were a symbol of the city, and she entered a charter placed on the

november ballot. it passed overwhelmly. the california street cable railway was purchased by the city in 1952. there were cut backs on the cable car system and in 1957 only three lines would remain. the three lines that exist today. in 1964 the cable car's future as part of california's transit system was sealed when it was proclaimed a national historic landmark. in february, 1980, muni metro were officially inaugurated. in that same year, muni received its first fleet of buses

equipped with wheelchair lifts. in 1982 when the cable car had a shut-down, they added an alternative attraction to the cars. the festival was a huge hit and would continue for the next four summers in a permanent f-line that would extend all the way to fisherman's wharf, by 2000 the f-line was in place. and in 2007 muni extended the third line to the southeast corner and returning to third street. for the first time in 60 years. in the course of last 100 years, muni's diverse workforce forged by men and women of innovation have reflected the many cultures
