[captioning made possible by constellation energy group] captioned by the national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- rex 11 days after the earthquake, a miracle in haiti, a man pulled from the rubble alive. it is despite stories like that, the official search has been called off by the haitian government. we begin with an update on the ground in haiti, and that display of human resilience. a 24-year-old man, trapped under the concrete rubble of a hotel in downtown port-au-prince emerged alive late this afternoon. the man said more people are alive in there, which has some questioning the haitian government's decision to call the search for survivors. today, this clarification. >> president preval said in his opening remarks that the government was shifting to this

reconstruction phase, but he did not say he would stop the rescue operations. >> also friday, an israeli team rescued a 22-year-old man, and relatives freed and 84-year-old woman. the confirmed death toll is 111,481, and it is estimated that up to 1 million people may flee the capital city. people from all over the world have open their wallets to help the rescue and recovery efforts in haiti. tonight, all the war's progress of first baptist church held a benefit for earthquake survivors. >> the concert was aimed at raising not only money but prayers for the people of haiti. one haitian man has a desperate plea for people everywhere. the congregation of progressive first baptist church came

together saturday night in song and in prayer during a concert to benefit the people of haiti. it was especially touching for one church member. he is haitian, and was devastated when he learned of the earthquake >> i understand, but because i am haitian. one of my buddies lives in one of the suburbs of port-au- prince. their home is totally devastated. he is still trying to locate his dad. jeffery says it is heartwarming see his church and organizations across the world coming to the aid of haiti. >> we believe that only god can give haiti when they really need, and so that is what we are praying for, that the spirit of god will just catch fire in haiti. next several community groups and singers performed, people

police say it was attended by college students. another man was also staffed but survived. lance corporal ray was from potomac, maryland, and station in washington, d.c. memorial plans are in place for four people killed in last wednesday's fire in east baltimore. the wake will be held at 10:30 a.m. friday, january 30 at not pleasant church in east baltimore, followed by the funeral at 11 -- mount pleasant church. by officials said there was a working smoke detector in the home at the time, so it is not clear what that family was not able to make it out in time. >> we were here sunday and we were cooking, getting ready for dinner. the smoke detector went off, so i do not understand why it would not have went off wednesday. >> firefighters and baltimore's two top elected leaders also return to the scene today,

urging members to make sure smoke detectors were working properly. >> this family had working smoke detectors, and we still have fatalities. we have to do more to talk to people about escape routes, about regarding -- preparing for a fire emergency. >> that is incoming mayor stephanie rawlings-blake. city council president stephanie rawlings-blake will attend president obama's state of the union address next week. she will attend as a guest of u.s. editor ben cardin. she was in washington for them conference of mayors meeting, which president obama did speak at. democrats lost a key seat in the u.s. senate, and with that, their filibuster-proof majority. president obama is changing his tone, now casting himself as a fighter.
