crime rates, but in this case we are number one in snow totals. >> in 2010, howard county wins the prize, with 28 inches on this complex. the highest total recorded in the state. >> it's nice to report something of this magnitude and to say that it really does make history. i haven't seen anything like this before. >> andrew morrison called it special, remarkable, the weather nut stayed up for 24 hours to report maybe the most snow ever in baltimore area. >> i recorded the gauges and emptied every hour. >> howard county crews are up around the clock, they are coordinating their response at
11:11 pm
this emergency operation center. >> we are to get emergency services whether police, fire or rescue to the neighbors and communities who need it. >> we were hit hard but have men and women helping us out. >> the thunderstorms in the corridor in the blizzard you get down pours and during the blizzard, you get heavy bands of snow, the goal is to have all the streets cleared by tomorrow night. >> for many residents digging out from under the snow proved to be a lofty task. but as reporter kim, shows that a little teamwork is sure to make the job easier. >> here in west baltimore we are seeing two road conditions, one the road that's not been plowed at all. you see striker street is under
11:12 pm
several feet of snow. and west franklin is more of a major roadway, but still partially covered, even though plowed and still treacherous to pass. most people were digging out their own sidewalks. >> it's hard, it's heavy. >> the snow may be over but the clean-up is just beginning. people all over west baltimore are spending time digging out. >> i just finished my mother's out. >> me and this guy here, we shoveled this whole intersection out so we can get out. >> that's right, now it's not just normal sidewalks to dig out, people are shovleing out
11:13 pm
the intersections. >> this is hard as people walking on it. >> and this winter bringing snow storm after snow storm, these people are good. >> you have to have more than one person to dig this out. >> take your time and if you feel tired, take a break. some people rush in and that's the easiest way to hurt yourself. >> despite the hard work, some of baltimore's younger residents enjoyed the snow. and realize that a big snowfall is a time when neighborhoods come together. >> we love the snow. because people are friendly, when it's a bad situation, people are real friendly and they help each other a lot. >> black ice is a concern tonight and tomorrow morning,
11:14 pm
so if you have to go out, be extremely careful. >> sky team 11 was out and caught footage from maryland. you see lots of snow covered roofs, the entire area as you know is inundated with snow. we have pictures from i-895, as of tonight bge says they have recoveried service to 90,000 customers, and still more in the dark. 1500 in baltimore county. nearly 600 customers in howard county and carroll county. we have robert joining us. three things i want to touch base on, first the power outages, where are we now?
11:15 pm
>> we are about 6,000 customers, we are in the oneies and twoies and going house to house. and i would caution to say we have taken new outages as a result of the storm. that means tree limbs are coming down. with the approaching storm, customers really should start taking preparations now again. and be ready. because the type of snow forecast to come with what we have on trees will cause more outages. >> good advice and that includes flashlights and batteries. and i want to talk about power meters ourselves, we can help out from high bills of doing what? >> just how you set the
11:16 pm
thermostats and it's common sense if you are away, set your meters down. and the gas meters outside, that's a concern as the snow melts from the tops of homes that water comes down. clear the ice and snow away. if you do that, that will keep those meters functioning. if you don't, your gas service could be frozen. >> there are a lot of heat pump customers and what should we do with that snow? >> not more than what we are talking about, clear it away and common sense and just use common sense with safety. if you see a line down, don't touch it and call us. and let us know of those down power lines. >> we have that phone number.
11:17 pm
robert, thank you for joining us tonight. good news for air travelers, limited service for the airport resumed. and crews work to get up and around for the airport to get running again. >> this morning we went down to bwi airport and check it out. as the airport was closed. the snow removing process was impressive. they had a lot done. they had one runway clear and some taxiways were clear. and the area around the gate, they had removed the aircraft and it made it easier for the crews to get around the gate and clear the snow. and they had a snow eating machine that they were dropping the snow into it. and it would melt it and drain into the drains.
11:18 pm
there was one fedex airplane in the process of being de-iced. and they had two more flights inbound from ups and they allowed them to come in and offload the cargo. but all other travel was closed. reporting for sky team 11. >> meteorologist is here with us now, we have gotten through some rough stuff and not so nice stuff coming up. >> a new storm, and we could say maybe not as big as the last one but it was so big. the satellite from mid-day today, most white you see is the snow on the ground. enough snow that the satellite could see it.
11:19 pm
that's pretty significant. so if we look at this year, this snow season so far, all the stuff in december and january, is 64.4 inches, the record for any season has been 62.5 and we are only a couple of inches off from that. and we have another storm coming. there are two elements out to the west, one in the upper mid-west and one in the south. and they will merge off the mid atlanta coast and likely develop into some form of noreastern, possibly some heavy snow and we will address that in the forecast. >> remember our coverage of the winter storm continues online. you can use our radar to track the weather, that's on the home

11:27 pm
and winds 2-5, and unseasonally cold weather tomorrow, high temperatures similar to today. we look at our instant weather future cast, monday still in good shape, but clouds move in by tuesday. and by 6 in the evening on tuesday, snow gets started in the area. notice the mix, from pink to greerngs -- green, and that means that warm air tries to come into the storm. and we advance ourselves to noon on wednesday, and we have that mix of precipitation up to baltimore and the storm off west. and you see that swirl. and then by 9 in the morning on wednesday, we have a band of heavy snow. and that mix is close and then
11:28 pm
to all snow. and then we start getting rid of it by wednesday evening. and this time around new york and boston get involved in this storm. the last one stopped short of that. it will be a big storm and has potential for heavy snow. early this evening it put a snow band to the west of us of 12 inches. the models change and will over the next 24-26 hours. and it may say up to lesser amounts where we may see a mix of precipitation. so there is a potential to see quite a bit of snow. and winter storm watches are in effect all the way to pennsylvania. tomorrow is on the cold side. and snow developing on tuesday and into wednesday, and possibly heavy at times. the rest of the week looks dry
