nbc 10 breaking news. >> the breaking news that we're following this morning. another ebola patient in the u.s. nbc 10 has just learned that a hospital worker at the texas hospital where an american patient was treated has tested positive for the disease. this as new york's jfk airport begins to test passengers flying in from west africa. and ready for primetime. we're live as eagles fans get ready for a "sunday night football" match-up against the new york giants. mother nature is certainly getting in the team spirit. here's a live look at lincoln financial field. the rain has moved out. and we should stay dry for the game. the tradeoff, though, is that we have much cooler temperatures. good morning, i'm rosemary conners. let's get right to that weekend weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. the rain cleared out with plenty

of time ahead of that big game. >> absolutely. and now wool see even more sunshine. so once the rain stopped yesterday, it was still really overcast. it's a cold start, so don't let the sun fool you. as we take a live look outside right now, the city skyline looks pretty nice, but definitely like me last night. a closer look at our temperatures. we're in the 30s if you're closer to the poconos. 36 degrees in allentown. 37 currently in pottstown. 47 in philadelphia. 46 this morning in wilmington. and as we head into the rest of today, we will push into the 60s. the low 60s, staying below average. more sunshine today. then i'm tracking a warmer and unsettled pattern. i'll let you know what that means coming up in my first alert seven-day forecast. >> we'll check back with you soon. new from overnight, philadelphia police are investigating a shooting in east germantown. a man was shot in the leg. responding officers took that

victim to einstein medical center where he is now in stable condition. no word on a suspect or a motive in this shooting. a vigil will happen later today in central new jersey for the alleged victims in the sayerville war memorial high school football scandal. the event is scheduled for 6:00 tonight in kennedy park. that's across the street from the high school in middlesex county. meanwhile, a seventh student has surrendered to face sex crime charges in the hazing scandal. prosecutors say freshman team members were hazed and harassed by upper classmen. some of the attacks were sexual in nature. the defendants range from 15 to 17 years old. the school's entire football season was cancelled earlier this week. the infectious disease conference in center city philadelphia will wrap up today. experts from across the country have been gathered here since wednesday. they've been talking about ways to treat and prevent a wide range of diseases and there has been a focus on ebola and

enterovirus d68. let's bring you back to that breaking news that we're following. we have just learned that a health care worker in texas has tested positive for ebola after a preliminary test. the centers for disease control will conduct more tests to confirm that. the texas department of health says that the worker cared for thomas duncan. he was the first person diagnosed with ebola in the u.s. he died on wednesday. we will continue to follow this breaking news and bring you any new developments throughout the morning. meanwhile, passengers arriving at new york's jfk airport from african countries affected by ebola are going through a stepped up screening process. the customs and border patrol released these photos yesterday of their agents at work. they're using no-touch thermometers to take the temperatures of passengers from liberia, sierra leone and guinea. federal health officials say these screenings will add an extra layer of protection against a disease that has already killed more than 4,000 people. over the next week, the screenings will begin at other

major international hubs, including washington dulles, chicago o'hare, atlanta, and newark. philadelphia international is not included because there are no flights from west africa. a church in the city's west oak lane neighborhood is gathering supplies for one of the countries most affected by the ebola outbreak, liberia. they hosted a donation drive yesterday, and hundreds of people answered the call. volunteers collected bags of food, cleaning products, and medical supplies that will all be sent overseas. >> sickness anywhere is a threat to health everywhere. as the continent of africa goes, so goes the african diaspera. we have to bring healing. >> a missionary group is helping to ship the boxes of supplies which will leave for liberia on monday. this morning, police in

radnor township will hope that somebody will recognize the get-up worn by a bank robber to help them make an arrest. one of them showed a gun, but no employees or customers were hurt. police are hoping that somebody will recognize one of the robbers because of his distinctive shoes, high sox, and gray jogging outfit. the township is now offering a $7,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and a conviction. police in moorestown, new jersey, are looking for three men who robbed a family dollar at gunpoint. these are surveillance photos from the crime that happened on friday night in west camden avenue in burlington county. they got away with some cash. nobody was hurt in this case. a big drug bust in burkes county after police found cocaine hidden inside an xbox. police say the drugs were mailed to pennsylvania from the dominican republic. officers followed the shipment to a home in reading and then made four arrests. the cocaine inside the xbox was

worth more than $100,000. there's more trouble for acme supermarkets. two stores in our area will be shutting their doors. both stores are in bucks county. acme says 130 employees work at both stores, but they're trying to find them new jobs at nearby locations. the stores will close on november 13th. this news comes after acme reported a data breach just two weeks ago. "sunday night football." tonight in south philly and right here on nbc 10, it's the eagles versus the giants. nbc 10's matt dlucia is live just outside the link this morning. i'm guessing not too many people out there, but we know fans are getting ready all across the city. >> reporter: that's right, rosemary. no one out here just yet. the excitement is in the air. the eagles are 4-1. the giants are 3-2. and this, for some fans, is the game they've been waiting for.

this is nbc 10 news. >> here's a live picture in center city. you can see it's just a little bit breezy at this hour, but the wind is really not going to be an issue for us today. we're dealing with cooler temperatures and they're colder than they should be this time of year, so if you are going to the game later tonight, definitely wear that jacket. maybe add on an extra layer or two. meteorologist brittney shipp will have the details coming up in the seven-day forecast. today, philadelphia sports broadcasting legend bill campbell will be remembered. a viewing will be held this afternoon from 2:00 until 6:00 at blake doyle funeral home. there will be a funeral mass tomorrow morning at christ the king church. campbell may be most famous for being the only person to call wilt chamberlain's 100-point game. he also broadcast the eagles' 1960 championship. new developments this morning on the bucket list baby. the facebook page for baby shane has been taken down after it was hacked this weekend.

after explicit photos were posted to the page, nbc 10 reached out to facebook and got the social network to take care of the problem. baby shane's story has received national attention. before he was born, his parents found out that he had a rare and deadly condition. they knew he would only live a few hours after he was born. so the couple decided to visit their favorite attractions during the pregnancy, calling it shane's bucket list. he was born on thursday, but died just about four hours later. next on nbc 10 news today, preparing for deployment. >> a very hands-on, practical matter. >> we'll take you inside the u.s. training center where american doctors and nurses are being prepared to take on ebola. and it's going to be a cold start, even a freezing start if you're closer to the poconos. more sunshine today. i'm tracking warmer and unsettled weather as we head into next week. your details in my first alert seven-day forecast.

the breaking news that we are continuing to follow this morning is about a hospital worker in texas who has preliminarily tested positive for ebola. officials say the worker reported a low grade fever friday night and was isolated. the centers for disease control will still need to confirm the test. the texas department of health says that the worker cared for thomas duncan, seen here, who was the first person diagnosed with ebola in the u.s. he died on wednesday. many u.s. doctors and nurses traveling to west africa are making a stop in alabama first for training on how to treat ebola patients as safely as possible. nbc's erica edwards shows us what kind of preparation they go through. >> reporter: these doctors and nurses suited up in heavy protective gear are learning step by step how to treat ebola patients in west africa.

>> we're trying to teach people infection control in a very hands-on, practical matter. >> reporter: dr. michael young has set up this free specialized training facility in aniston, alabama. >> doctors, nurses, emts, physicians assistants. >> reporter: they're teaching the basics of working in an ebola treatment unit, along with safe disposal of dead bodies which are highly infectious. >> a bucket with 25% chlorine. >> reporter: while these folks are preparing to travel overseas, other doctors and nurses are preparing for cases to arrive here in the u.s. bellevue hospital center . actors pretending to be potential ebola patients were hired to test several hospital systems, including bellevue's. back at the cdc training course, doctors and nurses are also experiencing the uncomfortable and extreme heat involved with

wearing three sets of gloves and personal protective gear covering every inch of their body. the cdc course can accommodate up to 40 health care professionals each week and will continue at least through the end of the year. erica edwards, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. >> good morning. maybe you had to turn the heat on last night. we are going to see a cold start, and in some locations, close to or even below freezing. that's where we have our frost advisory, which will stay in effect until 8:00 a.m. we have your eagles forecast. it's an improved forecast from what we saw yesterday. right now throughout philadelphia, 47 degrees. we're seeing a few clouds, our humidity is at 77%. the air is calm. temperatures about six degrees cooler than right now at this time yesterday. reading, we're in the low 40s. 44 degrees in atlantic city, under clear skies. that always helps us cool down overnight. so do light wind speeds. we're only at 31 degrees in the

poconos. 37 in allen town. 43 in quakertown. 47 in pottstown. northeast philadelphia in the low 40s. if you're closer to the shore, we're staying warmer. take a look at avalon at 50 degrees. and 46 right now in dover. the other thing we're dealing with besides the cold and freezing temperatures in the poconos is the fog. so we are down to a three-mile visibility in mount pocono, down to less than two miles in allentown. mount holly down to about three miles here. so just be careful if you're traveling in these areas in the next few hour. we do expect the patchy fog to linger throughout this morning. patchy frost is a possibility for us as well. with this frost advisory staying in effect at least until 8:00 a.m. and that's because temperatures are in the low to mid 30s throughout the morning hours. mainly confined to the poconos. we're seeing a few clouds streaming into our region. our temperatures will start off in the 30s and 40s this morning. we are going to warm into the 50s, eventually pushing into the

60s with more sunshine. so it will be nice as you head out to the game. just make sure you bring a thicker jacket because we are going to see cooler temperatures because the game is so late. our future cast shows that we are going to see clouds as we head into monday, even the possibility of a stray passing shower. same thing on tuesday. we'll see a better chance of rain as we head into wednesday and also thursday. temperature-wise this morning, by 7:00 a.m., still in the 40s. 53 degrees by 10:00 a.m. by 1:00 p.m., 61 degrees, although our high today will be a little bit warmer than that at 63. more sunshine expected for the eagles -- well, not for the eagles game because it's at 8:30. but more sunshine today on your sunday. monday, a chance of showers. warmer temperatures. tuesday and wednesday, back to the 70s, well above average. mid 70s as we push into thursday with a chance of showers again. we start to dry out heading into next weekend.

hey, i'm john clark. flyers starting to avoid starting 0-3 for a third straight season. playing with a sense of urgency last night. they had some jump against the canadiens. look who's honored during the game. they got to love how wayne simmonds is playing to start the season. wayne puts the flyers up 2-0. the wayne train cannot be stopped. take a look at his second goal of the game. four goals in his first three games. nobody has more in hockey. so it's 3-0 flyers. into the third period, but they collapse. the canadiens within one there,

crashed into three cars. that's according to police. it happened just before 9:00 last night at the intersection of 19th and cecil b. moore in north philly. he allegedly rammed into a parked car and nearly plowed into an apartment building. the boy ran from the scene along with several passengers. a woman inside the other car was taken to the hospital for only minor injuries. the trouble keeps coming for acme markets as two stores in our area are closing. both stores are in bucks county. acme says 130 employees work at both stores, but they're trying to find new jobs at nearby locations. the stores will close november 13th. this news comes after acme reported a data breach just about two weeks ago. it is a sunday showdown in south philly. the eagles will take on the giants tonight. if you don't have tickets, don't worrying you can watch it right here on nbc 10.

this is nbc 10 news. >> the deadline is looming for former players to opt out of the nfl concussion lawsuit. lawyers for some players had asked for the tuesday deadline to be dlae delelayed until afte fairness hearing. the league lawyers who negotiated the minimum $765 million deal opposed the delay, arguing that thousands need the money quickly. the settlement may not be finalized until the end of the year. this next one may make you think twice if you're planning to eat bacon. we could see a drop in pork prices after word that more pig lets are surviving a deadly virus that has killed millions of piglets. but the latest update from the u.s. department of agriculture shows that new decontamination procedures appear to be working. however, there are fears that the virus could return this winter because it thrives in cold and damp conditions. for more economic news now,

new video just in this morning from st. louis, missouri. yeah, that's where police and protesters are clashing outside of a convenience store. about 200 demonstrators who were protesting the death of vonderat myers staged a sit-in overnight. officers at least ten people and used pepper spray or tear gas on some of the demonstrators. myers, who was 18, was shot and killed on wednesday by an off duty police officer working a security job. according to police, myers shot first, but his parents say he was unarmed. this is all happening as a so-called weekend of resistance is under way in missouri to protest the shooting of michael brown back in august. last night, marchers rallied outside of busch stadium in st. louis where the cardinals hosted a playoff game. police and protesters also faced off in nearby ferguson,

how to use the newly formatted health care website. this morning, thousands of walkers will be raising money for the prevention and treatment of kidney disease. this is a live look at the philadelphia museum of art, where registration for the 13th annual philadelphia kidney walk begins just a short time from now at 8:30. the walk then starts at 10:00. this event is expected to raise about $485,000. the fourth annual walk for wishes will also be health this morning. this one's going to be at the philadelphia zoo. it's in support of children with life-threatening medical conditions. the walk benefits the make a wish foundation of philadelphia, northern delaware. that also starts at 10:00 this morning. the cleanup continues in tennessee after a tornado ripped through the area on friday night. take a look. hickman county residents were able to get a better assessment of the damage yesterday. the national weather service

areas if you're heading out the door. down to two miles in allentown. mount holly seeing decreased visibility this morning with the patchy fog. and that's due to some of the leftover moisture from yesterday's rainfall. 31 degrees in mount pocono. 36 in allentown. a cold start to the morning in pottstown at 37 degrees. 47 in philadelphia. low 40s. 43 degrees in washington township. 42 in trenton. closer to the shore, staying warmer, 50 degrees in avalon. if we take a look at the rest of our temperatures, you can see where the stationary front is draped. it stretches all the way back to texas, and on top of the front, we're seeing those cooler temperatures. 37 in detroit. and then if you just take a look south of the front, we're seeing those warmer temperatures, mild air. as we head into the rest of today, we don't really have to worry about any rainfall. it's going to stay to the south of us. we will see a lot more sunshine than what we saw yesterday.

hundreds of people in atlantic city got a firsthand look at daredevil nik wallenda two years ago. he walked a tight rope 100 feet above the beach without a harness. wallenda had no problem performing the stunt, despite the varying winds off the ocean. and now he's preparing for his next amazing feat, where he'll be walking high above the windy city. wallenda is practicing at his home in florida right now. he'll need to be ready because he's really challenging himself in chicago. there he'll walk on a tight rope more than 50 stories up and at a 15-degree angle. but that's not all. he'll also be blindfolded at the end of his journey.
