fighting high temps. how much longer will it last. >> reporter: here's what people are talking about today. another day of intense heat and just minutes ago baltimore issued a code red for temperatures tomorrow. firefighters battled a blaze tonight and tried to keep cool with drinks and wet towels. earlier today american red cross workers made sure cooling centers were stocked with water. wjz is live first morning coverage. we begin with bob. >> reporter: once again a record set today. we got up to 101. the previous record was 99. take a look at radar. temperatures just dropped down to 87. here it is 11:00 at night.

dc still coming in at 91. there are some cooler readings, 7 78, 77, lots of 70s. tomorrow afternoon we are probably only get to the mid- 90s. so even though temperatures are not going to be in triple digits. we are expecting to have a very warm and more humid afternoon and guess what, we might just see a shower or thunder shower. yesterday all time record 105. today another record, 101. the last time we had three consecutive 100 plus days, 1948 and 1966. hopefully we will come back with a cooler forecast for you in a couple of minutes. our first warning live coverage for you now, kei. >> reporter: the heat is affecting everything from

people to public transportation. an oven like heat roasts maryland for the third straight day. 101 degrees for wednesday, july 7th. so hot 150 residents of raven nursing home were evacuated because the ac didn't work. >> very upset because my sister is in there. >> reporter: the heat advisory remained in effect. others cooled off in fountains like this one in baltimore's visitor center. some relied on mother nature. here people wait in the river. two more deaths raised the number of heat related fatalities to 8. >> we're particularly reaching out to individuals age 90 and above. >> reporter: the scorching heat

break in montgomery county, in the pot only act area. the pipe is a major distribution line. it provides water to 8 million people. crews are now working to repair the break. after a -- was struck by a barge. pinning dozens of people into the water. joe brown reports. >> reporter: pulled several people out of the delaware river wednesday afternoon shortly after a barge collided with a tour boat. >> the boat was completely submerged and it was horrible. everybody seemed to come up. >> reporter: but a 16-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man did not surface and are still missing. it takes tourists around the city on both land and water.

the boat had just gone into the water when there was a water. >> the boat did shut down after a fire on board. as the boat was sitting in the water it did come into contact with a barge that was traveling northbound on the river. >> reporter: the boat capsized and sank sending all 35 passengers and 2 crew members into the river. 9 people were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, joel brown cbs news. a national transportation investigation is underway. a crew is already at the scene tonight. a dire prediction tonight from louisiana's governor regarding the clean up of the oil spill. with the -- continuing to gush, predicts will it take months, even years to clean up. new concerns about another storm hitting the area. tonight the national weather service says a new storm will

unseal charging documents revealing to the public what evidence led police to her boyfriend. >> because this is such a high profile case it possibly added to their desire. >> reporter: an autopsy report says love died with blunt force trauma to her head. left her in a pool of blood on her bed. reported that police found a bloody shirt in his apartment. >> she was just a sweet heart. her family was amazing. >> reporter: hugely says he did not mean to kill love. >> we are confident that ms. love's death was not intended. >> reporter: her mother still lives in the area. legal experts say that the family could influence if the death penalty is active.

>> sometimes the prosecutors will defer to the family. if you have got a case that could go either way and the family is pushing for the death penalty maybe that pushes it over the line. >> reporter: hugely was arrested just hours after this murder. reporting live, kelly mcpherson. thank you. the judge is unsealing the documents two months after love's murder. the question of insanity appears to be a tricky one. the jury closed down its second day of deliberations with no verdict. they claim she had a psychotic episode when she killed the trigger. prosecutors disagree. deliberations resume tomorrow. are they protected by the constitution? wjz has been following the west

survivors of the medevac crash. out dated weather information was named as one of the reasons for the accident. the attorney now says he will file a lawsuit. >> federal authorities announced the indictment of 15 people linked to the famous black gorilla family. tonight reports on a tighter prison system which hopes to keep contraband out while gang members are in. maryland prisons are quipped with state of the art security to keep inmates in. but authorities have struggled to keep out cell phones. as the correction officer helps helps demonstrate his body or i or i phis scanner.

river. our winds are beginning to come out of the east. that's going to bring in a lot of moisture, maybe a thundershower and also it will bring in somewhat cooler air. do not expect to see anybody in the state go higher than 95 or 96. that will probably be occurring west of our region. so some spots out to the west may get into the upper 90s. we have a low pressure that's going to bring some cloud with it. also another front is going to approach our region on friday night and saturday giving us a pretty good shot of some much needed showers, thundershower activity and some could even give us some pretty deese event down -- descent down -- decent

downpours. it stays humid but it begins to cool down and some moisture from the ocean. we'll be in the humid conditions friday and saturday. tomorrow slight chance for shower. once that front passes sundays will be a little bit cooler but a lot drier. looks like a nice end to the weekend. finally that low pressure, it's possible it could develop into something the next 2 or 3 days. winds shifting to the southeast at 5 to 10 knots and that will bring in somewhat cooler temperatures. sunrise 5:37. so for the rest of tonight another warm night, 76 to low 80s in the city. 94 tomorrow. it will be -- let's call it hot but not the extreme
