ripple of energy along it so this is what's known as an overrunning event. the precipitation overrunning the air at the surface and there will be enough cold air tomorrow to produce some snow. this is not going to be a big storm. temperatures right now a lot cooler than yesterday. yesterday in the mid 60's. 46 degrees but still not bad. 40 is the normal high for this time of the year but if you look up to the north and west buffalo binghamton 24 degrees. and that wind is coming from that direction. so, temperatures will be dropping down into the 20's tonight and we'll be stuck in the 30's tomorrow. this shows really the progression. 43 degrees at 6 o'clock. by midnight around 31 degrees. by 6 o'clock, 29. so it is going to be a lot colder tomorrow than it was today and certainly yesterday and then we've got that light snow event. it will be pushing in from the west to the east between about 10 o'clock and 1 o'clock so right around lunchtime. could have a little bit of sleet mixing in around philadelphia and areas south and even a brief changeover to rain for far southern areas, dover and cape may.

assignment at penn ridge high school. students were asked to solve math problems containing some questionable scenarios including one math question about child sexual abuse. "action news" reporter gray hall has been talking to parents and he joins us live from the school tonight. gray. >> reporter: well, monica, this has certainly rattled some nerves and some parents and students say at the content is inappropriate for math class. here's a look at that math assignment that is rattling some nerves for parents with kids attending penn ridge high school in bucks county. penn rich reform a school watchdog group shared the controversially? questions with "action news." one talks about an eight-year-old child being abused by her mother's boyfriend. below it another question asks if a single mother was working as a pimp prostitute or drug dealer to support her son. >> oh, my. oh, my god. i don't know, man, i think if you're a teacher and you're pulling stuff off the internet you should be reading through it. >> reporter: while those questions are cause something

controversy for the school district, a closer look at that worksheet reveals it is both a math and history lesson. that assignment uses questions based on the life of famed poet maya angelou. the two questions out of eight at the center of concern were actually events that napped maya angelou's life. still, some parents say the questions were out of place. >> i still think it's a problem. >> reporter: and why? >> because that shouldn't be on a math test. >> reporter: the school district released a statement admitting it has received numerous complaints about the math assignment. that it says contained adult content without proper context. the statement goes on to say we apologize to anyone who was offended by the contender of the assignment and have taken steps to avoid such occurrences in the future. the parents we talked to say their kids didn't have a problem with the content just the class it was taught in. >> she said it's very inappropriate to nut a math quiz. she says that doesn't even belong. she says more or necessary a history class but not math. >> reporter: so back out

live we had add that the district adds that worksheet was downloaded from online and it is not a part of the approved curriculum. they would not comments about the teacher involved in this or say if that person would face any disciplinary action. live in perkasie gray hall channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, gray. a handcuffed suspect who kicked his way out of a police cruiser is back behind bars tonight following a four hour manhunt in philadelphia. police finally caught the guy this morning in the 900 block of godfrey avenue. he was initially arrested at 5:00 a.m. for allegedly ramming a police cruiser at another -- and another car with his vehicle on the roosevelt boulevard. he was then put into a police car at the scene but somehow managed to escape. well, tonight he is back behind bars facing a list of charges. >> well, police are still looking for the man who robbed two people at gunpoint on the schuylkill river trail early this morning and the suspect got weigh with the victims' wallets and cell phones. latest on the investigation. jeanette. >> reporter: well, rick, the trail is still very busy right now but as the sun sets those numbers start to dwindle. many of the runners we spoke to say it's the scenery that draws them out here but after dark, it's better to be safe than sorry. today as runners and others took to the schuylkill river trail for a chance to enjoy a beautiful sunny day and the scenery, philadelphia police continued their search for the man behind robbery that happened overnight. >> i think of this as like an unsafe area when you're running along here so that's kind of shocking. >> reporter: philadelphia police say early this morning a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were walking along the trail near walnut street when a masked man approached them and pulled out a gun. the victims weren't injured but the suspect ran off with their wallets and cell phones. it all happened around 12:30 a.m. >> we would advise the people if you're going to be out there use extreme caution because it's not heavily traveled at night so just

putting yourself in that predicament is not the best thing to do. with that being said it also doesn't give somebody the right to rob you. >> s are beautiful down here at night. i just don't think it's the optimum safety place. >> reporter: runners told us the sites are beautiful to take in during the day. after sunset, well, that's a different story. >> i wouldn't be here at that hour because it's very isolated and there's so few people. >> i think it's not safe to go anywhere loan that lat lonely tt night no matter where you are. i don't feel safe. >> reporter: and police tell me they do have officers patrolling the area late at night, some in uniform others in plainclothes but still it's best not to be out here so late and if you are just be aware of your surroundings. as far as the suspect here, they didn't get much of a description from the victims but of course anyone with information is encouraged to contact police. reporting live in center city,

details on what a new healthcare system would look like. the senate passed a similar measure yesterday and will have more in a live report from washington for you tonight at 5:30. >> time for a check of our "action news" traffic report now friday night. >> all right, taking it live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. >> it's friday the 13th guys and it's been pretty unlucky for drivers on the northeast extension. there was an awful accident earlier this afternoon just south of the quakertown interchange on the southbound side. you told us about it a bit ago involving that tractor-trailer and work van. and at this hour the right lane remains closed. that means you're looking at single digit speeds like just 6 miles per hour coming south of the lehigh valley interchange on down to that scene again south of the quakertown interchange. coming down from center valley you really want to stick with 309 and deal with those traffic lights. southbound side of 476 is still a mess and the northbound side also still has a gaper delay but it's not as bad on that side. our other extension, the roosevelt boulevard extension

course is overwhelmed. she's already spoken with her birth family and says she plans to meet them soon. >> health check tonight. officials in delaware have reported the state's second death related to the flu. they're warning the virus is spreading faster. >> registered nurse ali gorman joins us now with details. >> hi guys. they're seeing a spike in the number of flu cases earlier this year than last. delaware is up nearly 200 cases but this time last year they only had 16 cases. and it's the same across the nation. we're seeing higher numbers. pennsylvania and new jersey are also both reporting widespread flu activity. now the best way to protect yourself is with a flu shot and of course good hand washing. also you may have noticed a lot of new ads touting how you can lose weight fast. many fad diets come on the market right after the new year but beware. there's no quick fix to weight loss: bridget coin sticks to a healthy well rounded diet

winter on the way tomorrow and then the rest of the holiday weekend is looking pretty nice. we are live on sky6. spring mountain our camera is actually kind of shaking a little bit there. it's freezing but you can see a lot of folks out there on this friday evening on the slopes. if you get cold, you hang out by the fire and temperatures have been dropping through the day. our high today 61 degrees. but that came shortly before 1 o'clock in the morning before that cold front moved through. now temperatures are dropping. philadelphia 46 degrees. still not that cold for january standards. cape may 42. allentown 38. and reading currently 39 degrees. then you factor in the breeze. we do have wind chill factor feels like fledge wilmington, forty eight trenton, feels like 3232 in allentown and reading and tomorrow temperatures will not be climbing out of the mid 30's. much colder air is on the way. satellite6 along with action radar really showing the setup. we have high pressure up to the north. that's what will bring also its colder air. then we've got this stationary

boundary. a ripple of energy along that. that pulls in the moisture but it is going to be fighting dry air at the surface and the snow will be falling during the daylight hours so a lot of that will be really melting on roads during the day tomorrow. tonight though should be dry, clouds thickening. it gets chilly. 29 in philadelphia. 23 in allentown. 28 in wilmington and 30 degrees in atlantic city. association future tracker showing tomorrow morning 9:30 in the morning the clouds are thick beginning to see some snow showers breaking out in the far southwest. kind of phils in around 2 o'clock and even some snow reaching as far north as the poconos. really light snow. and then this system winds down as we head towards dinnertime a little bit of mixing south of philadelphia by 7 o'clock this is really winding down. so, we're looking at a nuisance event. for philadelphia all the computer models now printing out less than a half inch of snow and that's really going to be the case across our viewing army calling for a coating to perhaps an inch but again, mostly on grassy

2:00 a.m. detectives found 13 shell casings at the scene. a 33-year-old man was shot in the torso. he is in stable condition. >> two u.s. postal workers were among nine people indicted as part of a widespread marijuana distribution ring running out of west philadelphia. 42-year-old postal carrier steven williams and another carrier are facing several charges. authorities say they used their positions at the west market post office to funnel more than 100-kilos of marijuana into three separate drug organizations. >> i have your boxes and they communicated, you know, where they would meet and when they would deliver the marijuana packages to the drug organizations. >> if convicted, each suspect could spend life in prison and face multi-million dollar fines. >> trenton area soup kitchen celebrated a major milestone today. organizers and volunteers marked the 35th year of serving meals to the hungry. mayor eric jackson was there to thank volunteers and board

members for their hard work. task served its first meal in 1982 in the first united methodist church of trenton but it's now housed in a building on eschar street where it serves more than 290,000 meals every ye. wow. an expansion project is set to get under way even this summer. students at saint peter's school in society hill were inspired to choose entrepreneurial career paths today. they took part in a "shark tank" event where they pitched ideas to a panel much judges. one luck keep student won money to help make that idea a reality. students heard from fashion designers construction experts restaurateurs and others about their careers. >> the legendary carlos santana set to headline musikfest in bethlehem this summer. he'll kick offer the festival which is one of the largest in the nation on friday august 4th. musikfest features more than 500 performances on 15 different stages. tickets go on sale next week and once again 6abc is the

official sponsors of musikfest. >> going to be fun. >> uh-huh. >> all right. time to get a check of the traffic scene out there friday night. >> matt pelman how are we looking out there? oops, look like some trouble spots behind you, hm. >> been a sad tune this evening on the northeast extension southbound rick and monica because of this awful accident that happened hours ago now in the southbound lanes just south of the quakertown interchange and you can see the parking lot that resulted for southbound drivers coming down from the lehigh valley as a result. at this hour one lane remains blocked, the right lane is still blocked. they had to work to free the driver that of work van that rear ended this pickup truck. they did get him free so that was the good news here along the nex but let's go out to the maps. still just very slow speeds on the southbound side. just 5 miles per hour coming south of the lehigh valley through that accident scene just south of the quakertown interchange. if you're coming southbound, again, southbound 309 a much better bet even though it's going to be busy, the southbound nex is not where you want to be. elsewhere on the turnpike a warning for you both tonight and tomorrow night right after

or so before some of that light snow begins to fall. temperatures are falling though to the north. warrington right now 39. 36 quakertown pottstown also 36. 41 saint davids. kennett square at 41 degrees and's asas we go to the south no 30's here. central southern parts of new jersey the boardwalk in atlantic city 46 degrees right now, that bay water temperature chilly at 37 and just to the west of there in the state of delaware temperatures between 42 and 45 degrees. the clouds have moved back in and they're here to stay overnight tonight and for the first part of the weekend and as we widen out we go to the west here and you can see the ♪ sleet and freezing rain and rain. not a lot of moisture at the present time but from the gulf of mexico we're going to see a plume of moisture all weekend long heading into the nation's heartland and over to the ohio valley bumping to some cold air so they're expecting quite an ice storm around oklahoma city as well as kansas city east towards saint louis.

but for us here, most of the moisture stays to the south and west. we have strong high to the north that's going to try to rip the moisture apart so as we get into saturday morning it is just cloud deal. it's really not until the late morning and especially the early afternoon some of that light snow and sleet puncture even as far north as the poconos, far southern areas near the shore cape may county as well as southern delaware could mix with rain even the city wilmington millville you could see some sleet mixing in the afternoon and it's not going to last more than a few hours. by 6 o'clock, everything is pretty much fallen apart, just cloudy maybe a lingering flurry or two so really it's just some light snow and sleet tomorrow. a coating to an inch at best. the inch mark would be on some of the higher terrain like elverson in chester county or towards the lehigh valley. main roads stay just wet. watch for some secondary roads, the sidewalks, could be some slick spots out there but most of it should melt when it hits the pavement surfaces.

once the sun sets and temperatures drop with wet surfaces if they're not treated they could turn icy. then on sunday high pressure comes in, 44 degrees, 4 degrees above normal. lots of sunshine where they're still dealing with that ice storm in the m as we look at the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast 35 for tomorrow with some of that afternoon light snow and sleet then sunday brighter, not as cold, 44. monday the holiday for the day of service, sunshine in the morning, some high clouds come into the afternoon but it's a dry day, seasonably chilly, not bad. 32 in the morning, going into the lower to middle 40's in the afternoon. and then it clouds up with some light showers on tuesday, 48 degrees. and then we're back into the 50's here. another january thaw begins wednesday through friday, on and off rain on wednesday and then maybe some breaks of sun thursday and friday. the warmth unfortunately doesn't come along with bright sunshine. but overall the weekend second half looks great. the first half you can get around. i wouldn't cancel any plans just take it easy on the roads especially towards sunset

>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪ >> friday night. accuweather says a smattering of snow is on the way for saturday. and the long arm of the law recaptures a handcuffed suspect who managed to escape. but the big story on "action news" tonight is the desperate search for a missing fisherman. the coast guard, new jersey state police and the tuckerton fire department have been trying to locate christopher hug. his boat ran aground on hither island in tuckerton bay some 2 miles out from tuckerton beach and that's where "action news" reporter vernon odom is live tonight. vernon, what is the latest on the search mission?

>> reporter: jim, the search mission is on hold at this hour because of darkness. it is set to resume at 7:00 in the morning. after a day long search across the tuckerton and little harbor bay area, the coast guard state police and the local fire department have called off the search for the night. since 8:00 this morning they've been looking for this clam fisherman christopher hug age 45 who lives about 2 miles down the road. his family tells me he's been fish argue rounds here all of his life. he went out clam fishing yesterday. his family has not heard from him since last night. >> at 8:00 p.m. last night a man who was out fishing in his boat contacted a relative saying that his boat ran aground and was not required assistance and then at 8:00 a.m. this morning we were notified that the man is missing. >> reporter: hug's small boat was located on leather island in the channel but hug was nowhere to be found. >> the boat that was found with the fishing gear
