stepdaughter. he came for a bond hearing. if released from jail, he could pose a danger to the community or risk of flight. the judge agreed and ordered him held without bond. the prosecutor said this is not a random killing. she was stabbed 40 times or more. 12-year-old jessica's body was found in the basement of her home on may 31st by her sister. her mother married david hang in 2005, but he lived with the family for only a year. it was an immigration sham type of marriage for money. he was angry with the family for not living up to their agreement. he married again while his divorce was pending. >> it was an arranged marriage to satisfy immigration consequences. i think he thought he could get out of it and he wanted out to go on with his new life with his

new wife. >> reporter: investigators found a sheet from a knife or sword on the crime scene. they got dna from it. hang drives montgomery county ride on buses. he left work early may 31st. his cell phone puts him in the area at the time of the murder. no sign of forced entry at the family's home. the next day, investigators noticed his right hand was injured and swollen. the question they cannot answer is why was 12-year-old jessica the victim of an angry rage? >> this was an absolutely innocent victim that, as far as we can determine would have had -- it just makes no sense why she was killed. >> reporter: david hang is charged with premeditated murder. if convicted, he faces the

possibility of life in prison. that's the latest from the montgomery county district court. back to you. >> chris gordon, thank you. authorities in ohio say they have captured of killed all but two animals let loose 50 miles from columbus. it was home to 50 wild animals including tigers, cheetahs, wolves and bears. he deliberately released the animals, then killed himself. >> we are not talking your normal every day house cat or dog. they are 300 pound tigers we had to put down. >> officials shut down schools and urged people to stay in their homes while they tracked down the stray, wild animals. no severe weather, but there are showers moving in. >> let's get the latest from doug kammerer. >> take a look at that shot there. it is nasty out there right now. the fog rolled in. the mist, the drizzle is out there now.

through. by 11:00, showers and thunderstorms out there. some of the storms may be on the strong side. tomorrow temperatures in the low to mid-50s. breezy conditions if not windy conditions tomorrow. a lot of changes for the next couple of hours. the next 24 hours i'll break them down for you coming up on the full forecast. >> thanks, doug. breaking news. the verdict is in for a teen accused of a deadly distracted driving case in prince george's county. he was on her cell phone when she ran a stop sign and killed a 54-year-old man. we have live with the verdict in this case. >> reporter: the jury found britney not guilty of manslaughter, however prosecutors are saying she did not get off easy. she was found guilty of

negligent driving. it's a huge disappointment for the victim's family. the manslaughter charges for causing the crash last may. she was texting when she ran the stop sign in buoy, maryland. seconds later, she hit and killed a man in his car. he was driving with his wife at the time. she was in critical condition but she recovered. she was here today and told us she's upset with the jury's decision. how are you feeling right now with the jury's decision? >> a little disappointed. well, a lot of disappointment, i guess. i was hoping that, you know, they would find her guilty on manslaughter charge. i feel blessed to be here. i probably would have been gone, too, had i not had good doctors and surgeons on me. at this point, we are really trying to just make it visible

as to what's happened here, make people aware of what's going on and what tragedies can happen with cell phones. >> reporter: now, she walked away from the courthouse. she must pay a $500 fine and received at least one point on her driving record according to prosecutors. the calahan family is going to continue to push for stiffer penalties for people who drive around and text. back to you in the studio. >> thanks. a special education teacher from montgomery county awas arrested. between july and december of last year, he solicit ed detectives. he teaches kids with autism at meadow hall elementary in rockville. there was a lot of

gaithersburg sitting at 64, too. now, the rain just down to the south and east for the most part. north and west frederick county and loudoun county, okay. sterling and ashburn seeing the showers move in. in through arlington and up toward bethesda and southern portions of maryland. look to the south, though. south and west. this is heavy rain. wul pepper, warrenton, this is moving to the north-northeast. if you are not seeing the heavy rain now, you are going to see it in a half hour to hour. no lightning associated with this. i wouldn't be surprised to see a little bit of lightning develop. then more to go to the south. there's the first round making its way through the region. to the south, here is another frontal boundary. watch the storms pop up. boom. these are strong storms that try to make their way up here. i don't think we are going to

see anything too severe. we could see rumbles of thunder around 11:00 or 12:00. the frontal boundary where we could see the showers and storms. after that, we dry out significantly. what do we do as well? when we cool down, windy conditions tomorrow. winds 30 to 40 miles per hour with the possibility of snow back here toward the mountains. the highest peaks, that's going to be it. for the rest of us, it's going to be cool but nice. pretty nice fall weekend shaping up. scattered showers late overnight and into the evening hours. temperatures 67 down to 63. tomorrow morning, i think we'll start to clear out after the rain overnight. partly cloudy, breezy, cool jacket weather. tomorrow afternoon, here comes the afternoon winds. windy and cool with gusts of 40 miles per hour. i think pretty much staying southwest, 15 to 20 with temperatures in the low 60s.

case? if you had your way, would you ask for the death penalty? >> it's something that has to be considered because of the magnitude of these crimes. but, again, any decision on this matter, relative to the death is far too -- it's too premature. >> reporter: new evidence, it comes from this gas station a tenth of a mile away. william mcquain and his stepfather curtis lopez caught on a e security camera at the liberty gas station october 1st, in the afternoon. not long before william was murdered. as it turns out, william mcquain was somewhat of a regular here. she says she remembers him

stopping by to buy candy. >> it's sad. it's sad. it's sad a young man had to leave the world in the hands of someone that wasn't responsible for his actions. something is wrong with him. the devil's got him. >> reporter: the body found not far off clarksburg road, not far into the woods below a tree, on a bare patch of dirt, near fallen limbs. does the security camera video from the gas station and the station's proximity to this spot in the woods mean that this was the murder scene? >> it certainly narrows the time line for us which is an indication that it may have occurred right there at that scene. >> reporter: curtis lopez is still in custody in north carolina. because he's already done big time for attempted murder

because of the serious nature of these charges, police making extra security precautions as they plan to bring him back to montgomery county to stand trial here. pat, back to you. >> pat collins, thank you. the morning commute was especially chaotic for drivers off i-95 in virginia today. an overnight paving project crumbled, turning 95 into a parking lot. jane watrel joins us live from a commuter lot in springfield. jane? >> reporter: it was a mess today for commuters. let's get that out of the way. it was raining. there were car accidents and a car fire. lifting the hov restrictions didn't make a difference. a normal one hour commute took two to three hours trying to get into the district. it was a morning northern virginia commuters would rather forget. >> it's real bad. we stopped like almost two hours. >> it's a nightmare getting into

d.c. stop, start, stop, start. >> reporter: a headache for transportation officials. we apologize for what happened this morning. it was miserable for commuters. >> reporter: it started around 6:00 after an overnight repair made to a section of i-95 failed. they scrambled to fix the hole in the road. >> it was completely unsafe for traffic. they had to pull everything off. it's where the nightmare began. >> reporter: commuting from d.c. to northern virginia has never been for the faint of heart especially this time of year. the weather may have been a factor in this latest case of gridlock. >> could have been rushing to get this repair done. we are getting toward the end of the season when temperatures change and we want to get the road work done. i don't know what happened, but we are investigating that right

now. we don't want it to happen again. >> reporter: back live along 95 in springfield, you can see tonight's commute home is considerably better than this morning. while it is raining, the traffic seems to be moving fairly smoothly. now, v-dot says they will give motorists a reprieve. the repair needs to be repaired but they won't do it tonight or tomorrow night. the earliest they will get to it would be friday, after the friday evening commute into saturday. perhaps a reprieve for all the people that had to be stuck in traffic this morning. i'm jane watrel, back to you in the studio. >> boy do they deserve one. thanks so much. today, we are learning the metro rail extension to the airport could fall behind schedule and go over budget. according to "the washington post," the executive director of metro's project says it could cost an extra $150,000.

the current price tag, $2.8 billion. the silver line is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2013. construction could delay that by six months. the connector is less than a year old. already, inspectors found cracks in three icc overpasses. the hairline cracks are in the peers that support the overpasses on emery lane and georgia avenue. for now, crews are reinforcing the peers with steel wire. the bridges have been functioning fine and the repairs are more about insuring their long term durability. prosecutors call their last witness to the stand. he's a propofol expert. a video of a hospital operating room was shown in court to give the jury an idea of how the drug

our wednesday's child this week just had a birthday. he had a lot of challenges right now to deal with, those who follow his progress say he's made progress in leaps and bounds. >> he happens to be a nice little kid. barbara harrison takes us to meet him. >> there are he is. there he is. hi. he arrived for his wednesday's child shoot dressed for the chilly weather. recently turned 3-year-old was invited to spend the morning at the be with me play museum. this room had brightly colored costumes to try on and down the hall -- great room. this is red, white and blue.

it's a place filled with room after room of fantasy fun for little ones. grandma and grandpa's place. look at that. and look at the farm. he wasn't too sure about the rooster. he's insecure about things unfamiliar. those who know him say -- >> he is an amazingly happy, chirpy child. loves to sing. sings everywhere. he loves colors and tv. he can scoot. he is a lot -- he just is a very joyous child. >> reporter: what he did like was the farm puzzle. he did well in putting the pieces in the right place. >> but, he does have a natural curiosity. he is starting to talk more using more words. i really think that with a lot of love and attention, he will reach a nice potential. >> reporter: he was very happy

because it's virtually hidden from sight. >> reporter: can you see the speed camera? yes, no. okay, let's do another drive by. see. people know it's there. >> wow, you can't imagine how many times that thing flashes within one minute. >> that's what alerted me to it and one of the neighbors was talking with me about it. >> reporter: it's one of more than a dozen enforcement locations set up in recent weeks. it's no argument, this is a good place for a speed camera. lots of tricky intersections and pedestrians crossing. there have been accidents and injuries. >> 7th and missouri. >> reporter: what has some of the neighborhood miffed is there's a lack of signage. >> i think they ought to have a notice from front of it like a lot of places. this area is photo enforced. >> reporter: the speed limit is

posted a block east before you get to the tree that obscures the camera. residents are glad for the photo enforcement. >> nothing less. i welcome it. the safety mechanism to improve. >> it should be posted so the drivers know that it's there. it's a good idea to put it. yes, let the drivers know. >> derrick ward, news 4. there's a list of photo enforcement cameras on the police department's website. a spokesperson says they are not aware of legal obligation to post warnings along the road. renee was working at a research station when she suffered vision loss and slurred speech back in august. they couldn't evacuate her because of bad weather.

dozen states died as a result of the listeria tainted fruit. investigators linked the food poisoning to a packing facility in colorado. the fda says it was probably caused by pools of water on the floor. old hard to clean equipment at the farms facility. the way the cantaloupes were cooled may have played a role. >> there are new developments in the search for a kansas city baby missing. a search warrant at the irwin family home today. 11-year-old lisa irwin was reported missing 16 days ago. the baby vanished from her crib. followi ining news for the past days. the couple hired a private investigator to search for their child. real life crooks may have taken ideas from the movies. over the weekend, police arrested five suspects for a

string of 60 robberies in brooklyn and queens. they say just as in the ben affleck movie they poured bleach on things trying to store the dna. they told investigators they saw it in the movie. they stole from delis, discount stores and pizza rias. they napped $217,000. lindsay lohan is facing more league troubles. >> the judge revoked her probation after skipping out on community service appointments. we have the report. >> reporter: lindsay lohan had to make a court appearance in los angeles wednesday. she violated the terms of her probation for stealing a necklace from a jewelry store. the judge was not happy. >> i am revoking her probation, pending a hearing. i am setting bail at $100,000.
