here's adrienne broaddus with what you need to know. >> reporter: tonight, new warnings as new york city is now reporting three cases of botulism-like illnesses linked to potentially counterfeit botox injections. the city's health department saying all three patients went to emergency departments. one person admitted to the intensive care unit. >> okay, here we go. >> reporter: botox is approved by the fda, but it's also made from the same toxin that causes botulism. when administered correctly, it comes with little risk, says dr. puja soda. how many people receive botox treatments every year? >> we're talking about millions upon millions. >> reporter: but now the cdc reports 22 women in 11 states have had bad reactions after receiving a counterfeit version of a popular treatment, half of them sent to the hospital. symptoms in these cases include slurred speech, droopy eyelids, difficulty breathing, swallowing, and raising arms. the symptoms appeared within days or weeks of getting the shot. in all of these cases, the injections were administered in non-health care settings. unclear at t

join me now from ucla's nbc news correspondent, adrienne broaddus. what is the scene like right now? >> reporter: the scene has shifted. behind me, you see a line of police. these are campus police and members of law enforcement who formed a line to separate the two groups. there have been clashes throughout the day and the tone has shifted. behind the campus police at the front of the line, behind us, there's extra enforcement just now coming in. you see those members of law enforcement with their shields and other riot gear. now, there has been pushing and shoving throughout the day. there was a protest, a rally planned by members in support of israel, but before that rally even got underway, there were pro-palestinian demonstrators who rushed in and really took over the area that the university officials, here at ucla, created for those folks with the pro israel supporters. they brought in a big stage, you'll see some of that video with loud speakers, essentially, to silence the pro- palestinian protesters who have been camping out, since thursday

let's head across the country to adrienne broaddus, who was at ucla. of course, the university of california los angeles. what can you tell us about the demonstrations there? it looks like you are right by an encampment. >> reporter: we are, alex. a lot of similarities here. like many of the colleges we have seen it nationwide, this part of ucla's campus looks like a campground. you noted the encampment. when we showed up, many students were inside of these tents, sleeping. there issue, growing concern over the war in gaza. but, there is a key difference, the tone here is peaceful. we received a statement from the vice chancellor saying in part, "it's also important to note that we are following university of california systemwide policy guidance, which directs us not to request law enforcement involvement preemptively, and only if absolutely necessary to protect the physical safety of our campus community." by contrast, we saw nearly 100 people arrested at the university of southern california, which many of us call usc. also, leaders there made the m
