Win Television is a TV network in Australia serving regional areas. Ballarat, a city in the state of Victoria, is one of those areas. The following is two lists of 1990s-era newscasts from Win Television's Ballarat station that are held by the National Film and Sound Archive. Unlike the GTV-9 newscasts mentioned above (which feature local, national and international news stories), the Ballarat newscasts are strictly local news for Ballarat. The lists do not include the various 2000s/2010s Win Television Ballarat newscasts that are held (note: the station did not exist in the 1980s). . The newscasts were recorded on U-Matic High Band videotape. I don't know the encoding quality of the digitised copies, but I do know that the resulting file sizes are at least 17 gigabytes for each 30-minute episode. Note: as far as I know, the recordings including original commercials and promos. List 1: 1990s-era Win Television Ballarat newscasts that have been digitised as of 29 October 2018: 28 November 1994 29 November 1994 1 December 1994 23 May 1995 24 May 1995 25 May 1995 26 May 1995 13 November 1995 14 November 1995 15 November 1995 16 November 1995 17 November 1995 30 November 1995 6 May 1996 7 May 1996 8 May 1996 9 May 1996 28 October 1996 30 October 1996 31 October 1996 1 November 1996 21 April 1997 22 April 1997 25 April 1997 13 October 1997 14 October 1997 15 October 1997 16 October 1997 17 October 1997 6 April 1998 7 April 1998 8 April 1998 5 October 1998 6 October 1998 7 October 1998 8 October 1998 5 April 1999 6 April 1999 List #2: 1990s-era Win Television Ballarat newscasts that are held on tape, but not yet digitised as of 29 October 2018: 2 December 1994 22 May 1995 10 May 1996 24 April 1997 9 October 1998 4 October 1999 5 October 1999 6 October 1999 7 October 1999 8 October 1999 29 October 1996 7 April 1999 8 April 1999 9 April 1999 As with the GTV-9 newscasts, I wish the National Film and Sound Archive could find some way of making these more readily available. I bet these 1990s newscasts would be fascinating to watch now, particularly those that feature original commercials.

Two lists of archived 1990s newscasts from Australian TV network SBS held by National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA). These are national newscasts, featuring a mix of national and international news stories. The emphasis was, however, on the international news events.

If you clicked on this post but haven't read the above posts, click "see parent post" twice, which provides more information on the archived newscasts.

I wish that archive would digitise more of the SBS newscasts they hold.... (and really, if they can digitise 32 episodes of the ultra-obscure 1980s game show "Trivial Video Show", then SBS-TV's newscast should be digitised as well.....mind you, I love classic game shows, so I am nevertheless glad that "Trivial Video Show" has digitised episodes...).

OK, I mentioned "Trivial Video Show", a long forgotten 1986 Australian game show, and that some of the episodes have been transferred to digital format by the National Film and Sound Archive. Well, here are two lists of episodes. Note: this was series was originally recorded on 1 Inch C Format videotape. The digitised copies are in mxf format. List #1: episodes digitised as of 29 October 2018: Episode 7 Episode 8 Episode 9 Episode 10 Episode 11 Episode 12 Episode 13 Episode 14 Episode 15 Episode 16 Episode 17 Episode 18 Episode 19 Episode 20 Episode 21 Episode 22 Episode 23 Episode 24 Episode 36 Episode 37 Episode 38 Episode 39 Episode 40 Episode 41 Episode 42 Episode 43 Episode 44 Episode 45 Episode 46 Episode 47 Episode 55 Episode 74 List #2: Episodes held, but not yet digitised as of 29 October 2018: Episode 1 Episode 6 Episode 25 Episode 26 Episode 27 Episode 28 Episode 29 Episode 30 Episode 31 Episode 32 Episode 33 Episode 34 Episode 35 Episode 48 I wonder when they will get around the digitising the rest... This show was produced by Gary Reilly Produced under the Jacaranda Productions name.....you know, I wish production companies would put vintage game shows on the streaming services. I'm against binge watching, but most people do it these days, and game shows would be perfect for it!

Hi HappySwordsman,

Could you tell me how I can access these copies (if it's possible)? I searched the NFSA website, no dice.

I hope they do digitise the rest, pretty sure I appear on Episode 50!

cheers
Rick

Okay, I figured out how to search the NFSA site properly and found the show (but not ep 50 yet). They say that they will provide copies for personal use if you can prove a direct connection. Thanks for posting about this.

Hi,

sorry for responding to a four year old post, but how did you manage to properly search the site and find what you wanted? I am trying to find the aforementioned Win News Ballarat news broadcasts.

Hi there, the link at https://www.nfsa.gov.au/collection for searching the collection (colsearch.nfsa.gov.au) doesn't work at the moment. When it's back I'll see if I can remember what I did. I never did hear back from them so never got to see the episode I wanted.
