I specifically mean in the "Search text contents" option. If I want to search for books containing "humongous" but NOT "congressional", none of these do the job:

humongous -congressional
humongous -(congressional)
humongous NOT congressional
humongous AND NOT congressional

they all behave like a standard "and" search.

sorry, boolean expressions do not work in text search, only metadata search.

Random test using separate data

https://archive.org/details/pub_new-york-times?query=%22humongous%22&sin=TXT
brings up only one entry from 1985
https://archive.org/details/sim_new-york-times_the-new-york-times_1985-09-01_134_contents?q=%22humongous%22

https://archive.org/details/pub_new-york-times?query=%22congressional%22&sin=TXT
on the other hand, this word brings up 11,025 results, including the one from Sept 1, 1985

Weird. I've had similar problems doing Boolean searches here. Sometimes they work, sometimes nada.
