the southwest pacific area and the pacific ocean area. in the size of that theater, it warrants an army to be able to provide the depth, scale and operational endurance of the land component in support of the combat and command. the other aspect i find interesting from history is again back to the comments i made at the beginning of this. the objective for nimitz, macarthur and slim, candidly, in that defeated victory, was to seize the defend terrain. they needed to be able to extend and reach back into the reader and regain control of key terrain so that continue to advance across the pacific and i think the lesson today is given what the chinese have created, we do not want to see that space -- we don't want to give up any decisive terrain. we will pay a heavy price to retake it. that's essentially why i believe our approach of training in the region through j.p. mrc, using operation pathways in the creation of joint interior lines provides us in my view and operational approach and a theory of the three if you will to be able to deter.
